Patriots Sign Tim Tebow

How do you reconcile your Patriots fanhood with your desire to see Tim Tebow start as a QB in the NFL?

The next person who suggests Tebow should start at QB for the Patriots will be the first on this forum to do so, out of literally hundreds who have given opinions on the matter.

You are fabricating boogeymen that simply do not exist. I don't expect to see them in Gillette stadium either. Can you scour the Earth and find such folks? Probably yes. There are some Florida boards that have some people like that. But why would you, and how does their stupid opinions affect the Patriots at all?

Let's say, for the sake of the argument, that Tebow is better than Kafka at QB3, or, possibly, even better than Mallett at QB2. Is it in the best interest of the Patriots to improve at either QB2 or QB3?

Does it help Tom Brady that the team has a better QB2 or QB3?

Does it help Tom Brady that the team has a better QB2 or QB3? Honestly - since Brady has been in the league, he has not needed competition from a QB2 or QB3 in order to maintain his starting role on the Patriots, so in my view, I think that the "best interest" analogy is moot.

Now - Do I think that Tim Tebow can compete for a spot on the 53-man roster as a long snapper, 4th TE and emergency QB and because of that versatility it helps the Patriots with its roster construction which in the end helps Brady, then I think that it is possible.

It is all up to Tebow and how he embraces the role that BB and McDaniels offer him. If Tebow doesn't realize that this is his one final shot at an NFL career, then he needs to realize it as well.

As for the media - I think that you just got a good look at how BB is going to handle the media and training camp. Business as usual and frankly that is how it should be played.

Re: Enough about Tim Tebow, what do YOU think about Tim Tebow?

Too many threads but answering this one...I was not for signing Tebow and didn't think it would happen. Waste of a roster spot.

But the signing forced me to think about the situation rather than being simply reflexive. I think that BB sees T2 as a potential upgrade for QB3 and maybe bringing some new creative goal line options to Josh. We struggled inside the 20 last year. T2 also offers possible ST options as well.

Given the emergence of running QBs in the league, it also helps to have someone who can play scout team for the SB against SF or the SeaHags. :)

I don't know if T2 will even make the 53. I am good either way with him making the team because he adds value or if he's cut because there's some young talent we absolutely need on the 53.

The only thing that would surprise me here would be if T2 rooms with Gronk and totally goes over to the Dark Side of the Force.

Re: Enough about Tim Tebow, what do YOU think about Tim Tebow?

I'm hoping he was only brought in to lead the team in prayer

Re: Enough about Tim Tebow, what do YOU think about Tim Tebow?

What you mean "we", white man??

You're the only one sobbing & squealing about my Avatar. :bricks:

But, hey...Good luck with that. :)

Your avatar's inappropriateness was called to your attention by another poster in another thread citing its negative symbolism in the climate of Sandy Hook, etc., and you responded semi-thoughtfully. Unsurprisingly your 14-year-old mind doesn't operate beyond mere lip-service and it's back to: "Hey, eff you buddy! My hero is a television gangster who kills people with guns! Deal with it!" So classy.

Re: Enough about Tim Tebow, what do YOU think about Tim Tebow?

As for his beliefs, I could really care less. I think some of the things the kid does are admirable and have no clue why so many bash him for it. Christianity, when you really look at it, simply holds values at it's core that are a guide for living a good, moral life. It would be interesting to see the turnaround if so many people on here openly bashed Islam.

I'm willing to admit that my annoyance with him comes more from how people react to him than anything he does himself. I get annoyed, in general, with the privileged status with which faith is treated in society. It persists as one thing which, by definition, is somehow exempt from critical thinking or reason, and so naturally someone who is as pious as Tim Tebow is bound to tire me out, though I'm largely content just to ignore him. Either way, Belichick runs a tight ship, so Tebow won't be able to open his mouth. It's a moot point here.

As for Islam v. Christianity - I'm not sure I'm getting your point. For starters, all religions are supposed to help people live good, moral lives. As for openly bashing one religion on another, I don't know. But I do know, were Tebow as devout a Muslim as he is Christian, I can assure you he would not have the popularity he does in America.

I don't understand your logic in the first paragraph. If Tebow improves the team at QB2 or QB3 (or both, possibly), then he improves the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS TEAM. And if the TEAM is improved, it helps Tom Brady. Maybe there will be a situation where Brady does get hurt and we need our QB2 or QB3 to play. And maybe Tebow helps them win a game where Kafka or Mallett wouldn't have. And maybe that one win is the difference between the Pats having HFA and not. And maybe that's the difference between them getting to the SB or not. And maybe that's how TB gets a fourth ring.

You are ALWAYS looking to improve the team. In any way you can. It's a strange way to look at it that improving the team doesn't help individual players. I mean, let's say the Vikings traded Adrian Peterson to the Pats for Ryan Mallett. Adrian Peterson improves the Patriots a lot. But how does that help, say, Stevan Ridley? It doesn't, in that Peterson's arrival greatly reduces the number of opportunities for Ridley. But as fans, what do we care about more: Ridley or the Patriots? We root for the laundry, and for the players who wear the Patriots' laundry.

So if Tebow improves the QB2 or QB3 position, then it makes the Patriots better, and a better Patriots' team helps Tom Brady.

You're making a good point. If Brady does get hurt, you would hope that Tebow, among other things, is able to help the Pats get W's. With that said - Brady doesn't need Tebow to get anything done because he is the uncontested starter unless there is an injury and if Tebow is the #2 on the depth chart which is something that Ryan Mallet will have a say on.

Personally, I don't think that Tebow sniffs the #2 job because his development as a quarterback was stunted when McDaniels was fired. This is their one chance to continue that development.

Re: Enough about Tim Tebow, what do YOU think about Tim Tebow?

Tebow was brought in to distract the news media while Belichick, McDaniels, Scarnecchia and Brady install a new offense that does not rely so heavily on the slot receiver.

While the media is chasing Tebow like a bunch of little girls trying to get a glimpse of Justin Bieber, the Patriots will fine tune an offense built around punishing opposing linebackers and defensive backs. The Patriots' downfall in the past few years has been an inability to handle really physical defenses in the playoffs. Looking at who is coming into camp at the skill positions, the smurfs are almost all gone, replaced by taller, heavier players.

When the last week of July rolls around and the rookies and veterans start reporting for Training Camp, it's essential that our stellar training camp observers like Patfanken, DaBruinz, Mayoclinic, PP2, et al ignore Tebow and focus on what the Evil Genius is installing.

Prediction: Tebow is cut on Friday August 9, 2013 - the day of the first preseason game at the Eagles. No more need for "The Distraction" after that.

Why would this need to be explained to you in the first place?

Why would this need to be explained to you in the first place?

Who said it did? I certainly didn't. Like I said - if Tebow can learn a couple of roles that help maximize the roster construction, then I think that this can be a positive for the team. With that said - there are barriers for anyone to claim that Tebow is going to be in a position to help the team win one game starting with Ryan Mallet.

Re: Enough about Tim Tebow, what do YOU think about Tim Tebow?

I think Tebow as a person is fantastic. I love the fact that he is an unabashed Christian who stands for purity. But, of course, most people hate everything he stands for so it's not a surprise to the see the reactions from posters on this board.

As a player, I think he has some potential and with a reported 2 year contract with no guaranteed money what exactly do we have to lose?

As for his fans.......so what? Have you seen some of the posts from long time posters on this board?

Well, standing on stereotyping and self-righteousness seems to be your forte. I doubt you're as pure as you want people to think you are though.

Actually you obviously know very little about me (and probably about much in general) since I have made it clear that I need Jesus to make me righteous.

Also, I have never claimed any purity. I just admire Tebow for at least trying to be pure in a world that hates purity.

I have no doubt that if Tebow "hung" with porn stars he's be viewed much more favorably and that to me is sad.

We'll have to see when Mark Sanchez or Jimmy Clausen are cut

Sanchez an clauses are closer to Brady's skill level than they are to tebows.

I wouldn't let tebow play qb in a backyard pick up game

I think you may have this backwards. If Tebow weren't so openly religious, he'd be just another great college QB without much of an NFL career. It's his personality, charisma and brazenly loud piousness that have helped make him as popular as he is. It's certainly not his ability to throw a football.

Belichick has got to be practicing his botox monotone for tomorrow's press conference.

"We're just trying to improve the team at every position this time of year. Thought is was in the best interests of the team."

"I think I said everything I need to on this topic."

"No, I'll refer to my previous statement."

"OK, anything else guys? Thanks."

This is easy...;)

Bill Belichick said:
"I think we’ve already talked enough about him ... I think I’ve covered it. Anything else?"

Ryan Mallett isn't nearly the roster or backup lock everyone seems to think. I think Tebow's subpar as a thrower (putting it nicely, though a great runner) but Mallett's a complete unknown despite the oft-aired but impossible to back up belief that he's 'developed nicely' and is viewed as a potential star in the NFL by multiple teams. At the very least he's a camp arm who can help prep the defense against running QBs, at best he's a QB2 or QB3 with some possible gimmick value or versatility as an athlete. There's no downside here other than the manufactured idea that he's a media circus or a locker room cancer.

Tebow issued #5 according to patriots.com roster, for whoever cares
