well, Gwedd...I am a Catholic...and I have a number of pagan friends, all women BTW. What raises my antennae as far as Tebow is concerned, is the constant proselytizing he engages in before the cameras.
I have experienced the Swaggerts, and Bakkers, Marvin Gorman, Robert Tilton et al who shamelessly used evangelicalism to line their own pockets and perpetrate and perpetuate massive fraud on the unsuspecting men and women just looking for some meaning in their lives.
I have to say, EVERY single time I see a Tebow press conference, I see a young scam artist in the making. He has the platform and notoriety to be able to build the single greatest evangelical movement in the country yet.
I don't trust that. I've seen it before and it ALWAYS comes up rotten from the inside...and it always ends up with innocents being bilked out of their hard earned money by a charismatic charlatan.
Perhaps Tebow is the voice in the desert ...leading the forlorn and hopeless to salvation.Until I SEE IT with my own eyes I will remain extremely skeptical.
Joker, As a Christian I understand that some have used faith to make a profit. This kid does not have his hand out. Do more investigation. Everyone who has ever played with him Christian or no has sad this kid was a great Team mate and a great kid.
You are really asking a lot of this kid to expect he can lead people to salvation. It's just he has more balls than most of us Christians when it comes to professing our faith which is actually what we are instructed to do in our faith.
At the end of the day, this kid loves his faith and loves his football. I'd be hard pressed to say an NFL player loves the game
more than him.
There are a few starting QB's that he will take their Team and win with. Even Rex Ryan was remiss not giving this kid a bigger role. Sparano hated him and Tony he lost his job and did a great job for the Dolphins and got canned ther so he has no credibility.
If you were Rex those last few games of 2012 when Sanchez was just awful, shouldn't Tebow have gotten a chance? Surprisingly the answer is no!
The kid was in a no win situation. If he won he would have made Sparano and Ryan look bad because they sat the kid. Why bring more attention to you as the head coach of that situation. Sit the kid.
We have all seen Sanchez play. Who do you think would have been more successful at the end of 2012? I bet Tebow doesn't do the Butt Fumble.
Take a pole...Sanchez or Tebow. How about Gabbert and Tebow? How about any one on the 2012 Cardinals and Tebow? How about Fitxpatrick and Tebow? How about Weedon and Tebow? Carson Palmer and Tebow? Locker vs. Tebow? Tebow could have just as easily handed off to AD so no Ponder magic there and I might even throw Mike Vick as poopy in 2012?
Nope not may 300 yard games from the kid. Not many 100+ passer ratings. But how many here challenge that those Teams above would not have won more if Tebow had a chance with them? I'd bet anything I own that he would have increased wins over loses.
This kid never asked for any of this but I think this article says it all:
"A survey released Monday by Forbes.com finds that Tim Tebow is the most influential athlete in America.
According to Tom Van Riper of Forbes.com, the determination was made via surveys taken “over the past several months.” Though Tebow had an NFL job before last Monday, he nevertheless had become largely forgotten from a football standpoint during the most recent regular season.
A whopping 29 percent of the respondents deemed Tebow to be influential. He was followed by Olympians Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt, and then by Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.
Finishing fifth was Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, the man who allowed Denver to throw Tebow overboard.
Being influential may not make a team more inclined to give Tebow a job. But it suggests that even if he spends the next decade languishing in various pro and/or semi-pro football leagues, the name will still carry weight when the time comes to transition to something else."
Kid just wants to play. He doesn't want to do anything else. He happens to be a Christian and he is not afraid to say it.....o.k. so lets' mock him? Nope. I have never seen anyone on the Jets or Broncos say a bad word about him. The kind of Anti-Tebow we have here, Hernandez also swears by the kid.
