The reason why Marquise Hill is still on this team

I am of the opinion that he hasn't played *because* he hasn't been good.

I guess we just disagree on what is the cause and what is the result.

Where would he play?

Who would be inactive instead of him?

Keep in mind Hill has been active when Seymour or Warren have been hurt, but Green has obviously gotten the nod above him. Wright has gotten the nod inside when Wilfork has been hurt.

if he gets released you know where he's going..... right to the Jets.

and yes he has been injured consistently with ankles

The reason why Marquise Hill is still on this team

Because he has nudy pictures of Belichick?

Great, let's free up the roster spot for someone who will do the same exact thing as Marquise.

What the **** do you expect Marquise to do? Beat out Seymour and Warren for the starting spots? Steal playing time from them? He's the prime example of why drafting the best player available, not for need, isn't always the best.

Give me a break.
When Seymour was hurt, Marquise didn't start. When Warren was hurt, Marquise didn't start. He didn't even get on the field to spell Jarvis, IIRC.

Look, a second round draft pick could only be signed for 5 years when Marquise was drafted (it's 4 in the new CBA). If he does NOTHING for 3 years you have only two years left to recoup the value of your late second round draft pick, not to mention the cost of holding a roster spot for a non-productive player and the cap dollars and real dollars spent on him.

Let's be honest: Marquise Hill was a gamble at the end of the second round which did not pay off.

Let me put it this way, in 2006 terms:

You are the coach. All of your players are healthy. You only have room for 3 DEs and 2 NTs on the gameday roster. Here are the 7 you can choose your 5 from:

DEs:
Richard Seymour
Ty Warren
Jarvis Green
Marquise Hill

NTs:
Vince Wilfork
Mike Wright
Le Kevin Smith

...

The choices are obvious. Marquise Hill has been active for 13 games in his 3-year career, or just about 4 per year. He had 4 in 2006, 8 in 2005, and 1 in 2004. With NO starts, thanks to a certain Mr. Green. Keep in mind Wright had only started ONE game in his career before his stretch filling in for Wilfork, and that was as a DT when the Pats started in a 4-3 in Week 2 of 2006 against the Jets.

So really, the only times Wright has been active instead of Hill in Wright's 2-year career have come when he was the backup NT, not as a backup DE. He has just simply seen time at DE because he was active.

You can't fault Hill for not being active in this scenario. It's a helluva lot easier for Wright to beat out Le Kevin Smith to suit up than it is for Hill to beat out Green.

I wouldn't judge much of anything of this guy's play when the sample of him seeing the field when Seymour or Warren were injured was MICROSCOPIC.

Since Warren and Seymour are going nowhere, he'll (not) play out his contract with the Pats, and then probably seek a team in free agency where he can actually see the field, have a chance to start, and maybe live up to his 2nd round potential. But the Pats haven't, nor will cut him just for the sake of getting somebody "better" on the roster at the 4th DE position.

So Saban lied to Belichick

Seems to be something Saban does often and "well". Hill is a bust dump him and fill his spot with a new face of potential. The numerous reasons are obvious.

Are they really?

Why don't you name them.

Why is Hill still here? It's a mystery. Hill didn't look good against the 49ers a few years ago when he got to play a half. He was getting pancaked on just about every other play. Boomer Esiason was outraged at BB for his post AFCCG interview with Wilcots. Well in the NFLN program about the 2004 season, Hill was mumbling a lot worse... and he was mumbling incoherently to BB of all people when coach was quizzing him during TC.

I don't think Hill was an awful pick because you must remember, at the time, Warren was not established like he is today. It's time to move on however.

And so one half of football over two years ago decides if a player, who has lasted through those two years, should stay or go now?

Don't expect this to change any time soon, either. Unless he gets hurt, Hill won't be cut for a "new face of potential." And unless Warren or Seymour go down with long-term injuries, Hill will be inactive for the next 2 years too.

Don't hold your breath. Get used to the way things have been and will be. Hill is a good emergency defensive lineman, and that's as far as the players ahead of him have let him go with the Patriots.

Microscopic and unimpressive, I thought he didn't look too bad in a brief appearance mid-season 2005, but he reinjured himself and was inactive until Miami's drop-kick. His play against Houston and Tennessee didn't show a lot to me, maybe Pepper, Dean, and BB see something different. If he can stay healthy through Training Camp and Preseason, we'll see, he is a cheap bench sitter, but Santonio looked better in preseason than Marquis did anytime. I wish the kid luck, but I'd snap up Adam Carriker or Amobi Okoye quickly if they dropped to 24 and wave buh-bye to Marquis.

No. His inactivity over the last two years plus him disappointing when he actually got on the playing field means he's dead weight.

You say his numbers stink because he hasn't played.

I say say he hasn't played because he stinks

His career numbers are abysmal....no improvement over 3 years.

Fire with extreme prejudice:mad:

What were you expecting? A six sack, three forced-fumble performance in the handful of games he's seen limited time in?

He hasn't played because only Seymour, Warren, and Green can be active.

His career numbers are abysmal? He hasn't started a game in his career. What the **** do you want him to do? Stab Seymour? Whallop Warren (Thanks, 7News).This is starting to get insane.

I don't see why his size is such a big deal. I'M* 6'6"* 300*, and I don't have a shot at making the roster.
I'm 6'5" 280# but I could put on 20 pounds easily enough. Where do I report?

To do more than be completely taken out by one man every play.

How about this season with Miami and Alabama.

I don't give a **** about Nick Saban.

I want to know the obvious reasons why Hill is a "bust."
