Why is Waters being silent on this? is he still debating?
FWIW, Waters came to NE 8 days prior to the season opener and had a pro bowl season.

And if all he wanted to do was skip the rigors of camp wouldn't he be in tow now that camp is over?
Yeah I was aware of that and I hope he does the same this year. I'm just trying to understand the point of keeping it a secret.
I agree..........This whole Waters issue has "retirement holdout" written all over it. Which in all fairness would be understandable, becouse Waters deserves a payrise based on last years performance.
So if I'm correct, then either:
A) They are trying to work it out / clear cap space
or
B) We are going into the season without him trying to see if we can manage without him while Waters is waiting for a phone call
if he's "contemplating retirement" instead of just sitting out preseason then Bellichick doesn't have to tell other players that certain guys get to skip it. It might even be unspoken between them where BB knows he'll probably come back and Waters knows that if he says he's contemplating retirement instead of just sitting out then he will get a pass since he's a valuable addition to the roster at any point he wants.
Wonder if BB made a deal -- skip all of training camp, but then you have to skip the first week so we can protect ourselves re: fully guaranteed contracts. So, back after week one?
I wish BB would just throw a few million more $s at him and get him here ASAP.
if it was like that, richard seymour would still be here.....
I heard some talking heads say the same thing. That's certainly plausible but if that's been figured out by you and others then you'd think the players have figured that out too.
I guess the next step is he'll be placed on the retired list. Shame if so because the OL goes from good to great with him in there. I'd like to see what Cannon can do at RG. His weakness is his foot quickness from what I can tell. When he got beat at RT, it was generally to the outside and the pass rusher typically used his speed. That should be less of a problem with a shift to RG.
Much overdue.
There was a time when the holdout wasnt entertained. A 'no show' in camp was just that...you state your intent by your actions.
The second in line has to always be ready. The day of the huge ego is long over. It will hurt a club in the end rather than help it. Also, it doesnt favor the player well either...financially or resume-wise.
:rocker:
