This little detail seems to have been completely overlooked in all the sturm und drang over Tavon Wilson. The only threads on Bequette are on the draft board. So as a public service announcement:

With the 90th pick in the draft, the Patriots selected Jake Bequette of Arkansas, a tenacious 6'4.5" 274-lb. defensive end whose shuttle and cone times were faster than Morris Claiborne's.

Bequette was a first-team All-SEC selection with 10.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and five forced fumbles.

After watching film (Thanks Ninja) and reading a lot about this kid, I really...really like him. Crazy high motor, decent spin move and RELENTLESS. I think this will be a very nice addition.

I really like this pick, ive read that he was slow, he doesn't look slow to me, he looks explosive. I watched him go through people and around them.

Kudos to the guy who loved Bequette and Wolfe. Wolfe went way higher than we all thought and we took Bequette. Great job.

He would be here but he broke his arm patting himself on the back and broke his arm, can't type

Same here...alot of analysts are saying that he is just an average athlete but his first step off the snap seems pretty quick. And you gotta love those high motor guys.

Good pick.

Yeah, the NFL.com scouting report says "While strong in the run game, he is seldom a factor in the passing game." Doesn't quite mesh with what I've seen.

I have no problem with him doing a I told you so. He may not have been the most diplomatic person about his opinions but in the face of taking a lot of crap he stuck to his beliefs and if nothing else NFL talent evaluators agree with him. Wolfe and Bequette still need to prove it on the field but the guy nailed it.

Said it in one of the other threads - but I think it's worth repeating, take a listen to his press conference if you haven't already done so. He could not have come across better. Terrence Wheatley was the last player I can remember coming across so well, so it's obviously not a guarantee of success or anything, but he was very impressive indeed.

Which is why I believe he will be Mike Wright's replacement. His motor is ideal for interior DL in sub, and I don't think there's any harm in putting an extra 20 on his frame. His arm length is short for OLB consideration, I would think.

Lot of people have Bequette as a 4-3 DE or some kind of interior sub-rusher. I think the Pats view him as a credible 3-4 OLB as well. patchick has alluded to outstanding agility metrics, and here they are, with comparables:

Jake Bequette said:
Vertical Jump: 34
Broad Jump: 9'5"
Short Shuttle: 4.07
3-Cone: 6.90
Rob Ninkovich said:
Vertical Jump: 34.5
Broad Jump: 9'8"
Short Shuttle: 4.18
3-Cone: 6.96
Chandler Jones said:
Vertical Jump: 35
Broad Jump: 10'
Short Shuttle: 4.38
3-Cone: 7.07
Ryan Kerrigan said:
Vertical Jump: 33.5
Broad Jump: 10'2"
Short Shuttle: 4.39
3-Cone: 7.18
Jarvis Green said:
Vertical Jump: 31
Broad Jump: 9'1"
Short Shuttle: 4.25
3-Cone: 7.52

And, as patchick mentioned, here's elite CB Morris Claiborne:

Short Shuttle: 4.12
3-Cone: 7.01

And here's Dont'a Hightower:

Bequette should be able to stand up and play as an OLB like Ninkovich if the coaches ask him to.

Looking for opinions. Does anyone think that Jake Bequette could play LDE in a 3-4 hybrid scheme?

LDE - Bequette
NT - Brace/Love
RDE - Wilfolk
Elephant ROLB - Jones

LOLB - Hightower
SILB - Spikes
WILB - Mayo

He is 6'4 1/2 and close to 280lbs and considered strong against the run.

Thoughts??

No. Also he is 270 lbs. He is too under weight and has short arms to be a 34 LDE.

His role will be 43 RDE, 43 LDE (not in an under set), 34 LOLB or 43 Sam.

He may occasionally play 5 tech a la Andre Carter did few snaps last season.

Both Jones and Jake are 34 OLB/ 43 DEs.

as long as he sticks that greasy little Santurd into a baguette and eats his lunch, I'll be happy...

BB was on Sirius this past week talking to Kirwan and Brett Keisels name came up as a comparison.

I like the pick since Bequette can still play DE in the nickel on this team if it doesn't work out as a OLB. It's actually a pretty safe pick.

Fixed it for you.

Better yet. Pro Football Weekly brought up a Jared Allen comparison. I see your Keisel and raise you an Allen.
