Replacing BJGE

There is no way the Pats would ever pay ANY RB, Michael Bush money let alone Matt Forte money.....and give up a 1st round pick. But Quik, I'll tell you what. the Pats DO need a big bruising RB for GL/SY and depth, so when the Bears release Marion Barber, we'll pick him up for just over $1MM and ZERO compensation, and say thank you very much

Are you guy's all talking about Marion Barber the guy who ran out of bounds instead of running out the clock, and then fumbling in overtime to cost the Bears a game against the Broncos? ummmm No thx!

If the Bears avoid the hold out situation and get Forte his new deal, I can see that happening. Tell ya what, Bear fans loved Barber up until that Denver game. Words cannot express how dumb he was not going out of bounds. If you get him, I wish you all the luck, and of course we do owe you guys a rematch in the superbowl :D

In all honesty I'll take Cedric Benson or Ryan Grant before Barber.

In reality it wouldn't be smart to spend alot of money on a higher end running back, there is no need when defense's have to respect the pass, especially if it turns out to be the way it should be this year. We need to have that hard nosed running back , that hangs on to the ball but gets those 4-5 yards for breathing room. Heck even throw Ronnie Brown into the mix.

He's ok , i liked his counter-part Christine Michael better.

The Patriots drafted Vereen to be that dual threat, he can catch passes out of the backfield, really a bigger Kevin Faulk type. The Patriots used a 2nd round pick on the guy.

Ridley also showed an ability to catch passes out of the backfield.

I hear you, but with not much of a running attack last year, and while playing some rather big games, BB decided that neither player would be worth playing. That doesn't give us iron clad confidence.

What do you guys think Jonathan Stewart would cost us in a trade to Carolina? He's supposedly available since they signed Tolbert. I would be so fired up to have a productive, 235 lb, 25 year old RB. He split duty last year, so there should be alot of tread left on his tires, plus he rushed for nearly 800 yards in split time, @ 5.4 ypc.

Jonathan Stewart - Carolina Panthers - 2012 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

"Multiple team sources" tell the Charlotte Observer that Jonathan Stewart is "unlikely" to be traded despite the Panthers' addition of Mike Tolbert.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree here, Ken.

I hear you on the salary issue and the compensation, but I would expect there to be better fits out there in regards to what the Pats will be looking for.

Barber has never seemed all that 'bright' to me, and he surely isn't a guy who can replace the great ball-handling that BJGE brought to the table.

Who that guy is, I don't know at this time, but I would guess that he may very well be a lesser-known name.

Still need a vet RB .... I like Kevin Smith because he could prove himself and is young nough to earn a big del next year.

We need 150-200 carries

Ridley certainly is ready for 10-15 carries a week imo...

Fair enough, Supe, I'm not so particular about the individual player as I am about the specific skill set we need to fit into the mix. Barber doesn't suit you, fine, pick another. Just be sure you get me the guy who can pick up 3rd and 2, and punch the ball into the endzone from inside the 3 about 10 times a year.

BTW- I saw a number I saw recently, we all should remember when thinking about Benny. As our "lead" RB, last season, he only accounted for just 34% of our rushes last season, and under 4ypc. That's not a guy you pay more than what he got paid ($1.8MM) last season Nor should you pay that to the man who replaces him....unless he proves to be a lot better than that.

im a fan of BJGE but the best part of he's game was the fact that he never fumbled so BB never put him on the inactive list other then that everything about he's game is replaceable, he averaged less then 4 yards per att last year and had 7 games that he rushed for less then 20 yards.... i think the young guys will be just fine

Wow I just found out the Pats have the 48th & 63rd picks as well (26-27th overall value). With 4 picks in first 2 rounds, 35 y/o Brady freeing up cap...maybe I am "out of town stupid", but it looks like a big move coming i.e. Mike Wallace or Forte.

Yeah...i don't see a big move like that...at all...Wallace wants stupid $$. No way we pay him what he wants. Same with Forte..wants stupid $$

I agree. At very least, we need a veteran short yardage runner. I would also expect that this runner should be able to have significant reps if there is an injury of if Vareen doesn't work out to be more than a replacement for Faulk competing with Woodhead for reps.

I would note that we have been carrying 5 running backs, and that Belichick seems to be considering carrying a fullback.

Ridley and Vereen ought to be ready to handle the load this year. You don't spend a 2nd and 3rd rounder on RB's to stick in there 'just in case' someone else gets hurt. Spending as much or more $$ than what Bush got from Chicago would really disappoint me, don't see anyone out there who's really worth it. I wouldn't mind a lower round draft pick for depth purposes.

I don't believe there is an impending big move, but if there is then I want it to be on defense, not offense.

The lack of a veteran (Woodhead is the most experienced RB on the roster now) within the unit is disconcerting, but I would prefer to add someone like Tim Hightower, Kevin Smith, Earnest Graham, or Jerome Harrison if they are cleared medically; even Maurice Morris or Cadillac Williams could be a one-year solution. I would rather use the cap space and draft picks on other positions on defense.

Pats Nation: First, I would like to thank Mr. Kraft and his family for giving me an opportunity to live my dream.

Farewell BJGE.

I find both of your choices to be unreasonable.

I expect us to sign a veteran at much less than what Bush got from Chicago.
