It's easy, and only takes a few moments.Of course everybody has a bad game, or even a few bad games, but my problem with Hobbs isn't his tackling (although that needs some work as well) but rather the fact that he isn't really playing smart, and the truth is he's been consistently getting burnt this year. Let's call a spade a spade. If you go back over the past six games or so, he's gotten caught out of position a lot of times. Belicheck benched him at one point, and I really don't feel like he's made the case to stay in. I would put Chad scott in there and give him a shot at this point and maybe give Hobbs another chance next year without the cast.
That touchdown was terrible. That had nothing to do with a cast or underestimating Matt Jones' speed, he just got a move put on him and got badly burnt. I still think he's got the makings of a good player, but I have begun to question his instincts. The Patriots whole defensive philosophy is based on avoiding the big play, and there's been a lot of situations in which Hobbs has given that play up.
Again, I like the kid. I had great hopes for him this season, but I feel like he's the weak link. Hope I'm wrong.
Broken our backs? You mean we aren't 11-4? MY GOD! What happened?Apologies if this topic has already been discussed, I haven't been on the board for a while, but I've noticed a pattern in the latter half of the season that ellis hobbs has really broken our backs in some key situations. He's out of position a lot, he doesn't tackle well, and generally it doesn't seem like he's playing smart right now. Do we want him starting in the playoffs going against Denver's deep passing game?

is this one of those threads which was made just to make thread ?
Some people cannot tolerate criticism. He is making an excellent point. Hobbs took a step backwards this year. He was benched for his play in favor of Chad Scott. When he was reinserted in the line-up, he continued his inconsistent play. He is capable, but making too many mistakes. Samuel is our best CB, and he got burned badly on a double move for a big gain. Scott is tough but lacks quickness. Going into the playoffs, I think our CBs are a vulnerability that a team like Denver will look to exploit. Going into the draft, we have said all year that CB and ILB are our greatest needs. The 2 areas I worry about with this team are:
1. On defense: Stopping the pass on the outside, esp Hobbs
2. On offense: no vertical passing game allows defenses to focus on 15 yards of the field ( a constant red zone look).
Yes, yes every team is flawed. But these are two areas I expect they will address in the off-season.
All you iHobbs fans should remember that it was the COACHES who benched him for poor play. Just a fact.
It always amazes me when I log on to this board and see the threads that are started. Last week Hobbs was the darling of this board and this week he should be benched.

then why are the 'fans' trying to contradict the coaching staff now?
if they benched him for sucking before (which I do not recall), then wouldn't they bench him for sucking again if that was the case?
PS--what is with the divisiveness?? must one either be a Hobbs fan or Hobbs -unfan? I like the guy, and think he deserves to be on the field with the starting unit, but don't consider myself to explicitly be a 'Hobbs fan'. Can't I be a Dean Pees fan that is confident that the team is putting the best players on the field regardless of the 'fans' perception of who is healthiest, best, performing, etc? I like this defense. If Belichick and Pees feel that the best chance to win is with Hobbs on the field, then I am with them.
But don't let that stop any of you denigrators from caterwauling about it.

What the hell do you care?
Some of you guys have major personal issues. This is a website, on the internet, where people discuss a football team. Nobody's trying out for an ESPN column. Relax. It's just a discussion. If the thread irritates you, don't open it. Or write a letter to the editor.
I like Ellis Hobbs, but I've witnessed him give up a number of big plays, and I feel that he is the weak link on defense.
