Apologies if this topic has already been discussed, I haven't been on the board for a while, but I've noticed a pattern in the latter half of the season that ellis hobbs has really broken our backs in some key situations. He's out of position a lot, he doesn't tackle well, and generally it doesn't seem like he's playing smart right now. Do we want him starting in the playoffs going against Denver's deep passing game?

It's really hard to tackle with a cast - the man had done a courageous job all year. All CB's get burned.....stick with the kid, the gOod far outweighs the bad.

Are you sure you are talking about Hobbs and not Samuel? Because Samuel was just as bad yesterday.

I think everyone has been way to hard on Hobbs

Hobbs problems seems to be more mental than a lack of talent. Overall he is a good tackler but in the big play he gave up yesterday he went too far off Matt Jones allowing him to easily run right by him. As the analysts said he might have underestimated Jones speed. It's just a mental error.

Who is left on the roster better than Ellis Hobbs?

As a rookie Ellis didn't play until the latter half of last season, so I don't know where any pattern would be emerging from.

He's been playing all season with the same fractured wrist as Tedy, only it's a little tougher on a DB. Limited his use in the return game until the the last few weeks when he sparked that unit including our first KO return for a TD. He had a pick last week too. Belichick took time to praise his toughness and work ethic and ability to play through injury - a great trait for a Pats DB.

He got burned a little yesterday, but so did our psuedo pro bowler. And Chad Scott hasn't exactly been covering himself in glory. Who would you play?

No way man,Ellis will be fine......Dude has a cast.....his working hard.......what about the TD..........GO PATS!!!!!!:rocker:

Other than that poor tackle attempt on the TD, I thought Hobbs had a pretty good game yesterday. He played most of the game and his coverage was good enough that they threw in Samuels' direction for most of the game.

I agree that a lot of his poor play is due to his cast. Go back and look at the Bears and Colts game where he is trying to make tackles with one hand because he couldn't grip the player with his casted hand. He has improved his technique a bit, but his entire thumb is immobilized with the cast making his duties harder.

No one is talking about benching Bruschi and he has been hampered by the same injury for most of the year (by his own admission a week or two ago) and he had a full two months of recovery time over Hobbs. I would argue it is harder to play CB than ILB with a broken wrist.

i must of missed it..how many times did Samuel get beat? i clearly remember 1..on the 41 yarder and he also missed a tackle trying to kill MJD..

can you refresh my memory?

I'd say bench him if chad scott was playing like he was earlier in the season, but i think we should stick with hobbs.

chad scott has played with the starters at times per Reiss:

Scott at CB

Chad Scott has joined the Patriots' base 3-4 defense at cornerback, replacing Ellis Hobbs. When the team went to its nickel, Scott was replaced by Hobbs.

Also, a few injury updates from the Jaguars: safety Deion Grant (hamstring) and offensive lineman Stockar McDougal (chest contusion) are questionable to return. Grant has been replaced by Jamaal Fudge. McDougle is a backup.

Ellis Hobbs must be benched before this season is wasted, because at no time this year has Chad Scott looked too old and too slow to be an every-game starter for this defense. A clear pattern is emerging; that Ellis Hobbs routinely gives up plays that people notice and over-represent. Uncalled offensive pass interfence, overzealous defensive pass interference penalties, and that sail boom for an arm are not reasons, they are excuses. Is it just me or has Ellis "Bethel Johnson" Hobbs spent over half of his NFL career suffering from one injury or the other? I could go on.

Chad scott looked a step slower after he returned from the couple games he was out.

Oh yeah, sure, but let's not let the "facts" get in the way of our opinions.

Anyways, he's had that one injury for over half the time he's been a starter. He's injury-prone. Send him to the glue factory. Viva Ray Mickens!

All 3 of the Patriots top CB's, Samuel, Hobbs and Scott have had thier good and bad days. They all have good and not so good skills. This is one area where I'll leave it to BB, Pea's and whoever the DB coach is these days to decide who plays and when. I think they are using guys somehwhat depending on who the opponent is between Hobbs and Scott. But they could start any of the 2 with the other the 5 and I'd be OK with that.

In total agreement. let's be glad we have 3 healthy cb's.

Harrison has been hurt quiet a few times..ACL..shoulder..broken arm in SB. CUT HIM! VIVA JAMES SANDER

(sarcasm)

1 injury doesnt make u injury prone..give ihm a break. hes young, hard working and competitive..let him play some more.

Of course everybody has a bad game, or even a few bad games, but my problem with Hobbs isn't his tackling (although that needs some work as well) but rather the fact that he isn't really playing smart, and the truth is he's been consistently getting burnt this year. Let's call a spade a spade. If you go back over the past six games or so, he's gotten caught out of position a lot of times. Belicheck benched him at one point, and I really don't feel like he's made the case to stay in. I would put Chad scott in there and give him a shot at this point and maybe give Hobbs another chance next year without the cast.

That touchdown was terrible. That had nothing to do with a cast or underestimating Matt Jones' speed, he just got a move put on him and got badly burnt. I still think he's got the makings of a good player, but I have begun to question his instincts. The Patriots whole defensive philosophy is based on avoiding the big play, and there's been a lot of situations in which Hobbs has given that play up.

Again, I like the kid. I had great hopes for him this season, but I feel like he's the weak link. Hope I'm wrong.

is this one of those threads which was made just to make thread ?
