Re: The offficial Patriots Chargers POST game thread.

They only go into effect when the Patriots are on defense.

When we're on offense however, you're allowed to tackle recievers

here is my paranoid, homer, refs rant. to get it out of my system.

get used to it. this is going to be a long season of complaining about the refs.

all the pats pre-season hype set us up. the refs are the nfl's tools to level the playing field. the nfl wants the games to appear competitive (at least for 3 qtrs).

hmmm. didn't work. I still think the refs suk. :D

Re: The offficial Patriots Chargers POST game thread.

Chargers played dirty it seemed.

Garay low hit on Brady. He wasnt even blocked into him or anything. He blatantly dove low.

Bob Sanders blatant helmet to helmet on Gronkowski. This one didnt even get called because he just bounced off Gronk, but it was still Helmet to helmet.

Garay faking injury during Patriots No huddle?

You forgot the DB going after Hernandez's knee which is how he got hurt. nearly through a beer bottle through my tv.

Re: The offficial Patriots Chargers POST game thread.

Come on now, at the very least, there were bad calls or non calls benfitting both teams. On the Tolbert fumble a Patriot Dlineman was tripping the runner, illegal at all levels of football. I'd say the calls/non calls were pretty even.

wrong.....he was tripped by his own lineman:bricks:

Re: The offficial Patriots Chargers POST game thread.

Our D was better than their D...you know... the #1 D in 2010. I do hope we can get a sack next week...that would be good fun to see.

Re: The offficial Patriots Chargers POST game thread.

I don't know how you don't flag the Charger's lineman for hitting in the knees. That could be the video they show the refs in the off season on the textbook call.

I also don't know how you call Brown on Gates for interference and then don't flag Jammer on Branch a short time later when he tugged the jersey and facemask in clear site of the official.

I hope Mesko is OK and Dowling as well. If Dowling and Aarington are out that could be trouble next week.

Re: The offficial Patriots Chargers POST game thread.

Can we get a little pressure on the QB? Rivers had DAYS to throw. This is not a good sign

Re: The offficial Patriots Chargers POST game thread.

In the NHL, Officials are graded on a per game basis by the heads of officiating. This was implemented by Andy Van Hellemond. It improved the quality of the officials on the ice significantly. There is no reason that they can't do the same thing in the NFL.. Saying they can't is a cop out.

Yes. If an Official's calls are impeachable, except by review, then perhaps that official should eventually be removed if his calls are habitually reversed.

And I've been watching the Bruins and the NHL since '71, the Pats since '86. (Mon père est Canadien, mais mon père n'a jamais été un imbécile. Bruins toujours!) LOL
I guess that makes me a 'first generation' or something.... meh.
It sure does make me a middle-aged man. Ugh.

Re: The offficial Patriots Chargers POST game thread.

The Chargers should have gotten a 15 yard penalty for tripping their own guy.

Re: The offficial Patriots Chargers POST game thread.

Two games played and the defense has given up almost 1000 yards of offense.

Awesome.

We are fortunate to have a spectacular offense. That is the only thing we have going for us. We have the best offense in the league. Scary good.

The D is awful...but board's illuminati and their minions quash such dissent.

The best one I've heard so far is our pressure on Rivers was so good that he was forced to dump it off to his running backs........so much so, they tallied 135 receiving combined.

The sad part is people buy this drivel. Because the guy who says it comes on and bullies everyone else...he must be right.

If Brady kept dumping it off to our backs for over 100 yards receiving, we'd be calling him a genius.....just taking what the defense was giving him....going through his progressions like a master.

The 4th and goal series was awesome and I was hoping it would set a tone for the rest of the game....it didn't

Could the defense get better and gel. Sure. It has to. Right now this is D is in the bottom third in the league.

Any championship aspirations we have rely on the D's improvement.

In the NHL, the refs are held accountable because they got too many complaints about the refs becoming too much a part of the game, but also for the amount of garbage play behind the play. That's why they added the 2nd ref. It's also why they added the review process. And some long time refs have been dismissed out of the NHL because of it.

The officials in the NFL need to be held accountable just like the officials in the NHL. There is no reason they shouldn't be.

This is the biggest thing I hate about the NFL. There is no consistency when making these calls every year. It seems like the refs are told what to enforce and what to be lenient with on a yearly basis. Why put these rules into effect if you are just going to ignore them over time?

Re: The offficial Patriots Chargers POST game thread.

I'm hoping to be able to rewatch this game sometime soon. McCourty's safety help on Jackson was noticeably missing, and I want to figure out where the heck it was.

I wish I could disagree with you about the defense but I can't. They aren't there yet. They show flashes and can certainly improve as the new players and system become more comfortable but right now its a bit scary how vulnerable they are to the pass.

What was especially troubling was how open the underneath pass was all afternoon. I understand that they were covering the deep pass but couldn't they make an adjustment that prevented an easy six yards every play?

What does yards have to do with winning the game??

The board's illuminati? Conspiracy theory much? Seriously. You are over-reacting. Which is typical of someone who doesn't understand that it's POINTS that matter. Not yards. Which has always been a sign of the Belichick "Bend, Don't Break" offense.

The best one I've heard so far is our pressure on Rivers was so good that he was forced to dump it off to his running backs........so much so, they tallied 135 receiving combined.

That happens when you have your ILBs play 10 yards back to give help to the secondary and leave the underneath open for the RBs..

The sad part is people buy this drivel. Because the guy who says it comes on and bullies everyone else...he must be right.

People buy the truth. Maybe you should read some books like "Education of a coach" and "Football Scouting Methods". You'd probably learn alot.

Going through his progressions?? You mean because of the hands up in his passing lanes that forced the dump offs? Or the times he was forced out of the pocket and had to throw on the run?

The 4th and goal series was awesome and I was hoping it would set a tone for the rest of the game....it didn't

Any Championship aspirations rely on the team's over-all improvement. Not just the defense.

Re: The offficial Patriots Chargers POST game thread.

1.) Officiating has been bad around the league this week. New England is just one of many teams who got screwed.

2.) Brady was brilliant for most of the game.

3.) Anyone still want to claim Branch is done?

4.) The tight ends are tremendous, but this team is going to have to use more 3 WR sets to keep them from getting killed.

5.) McCourty has not been getting it done so far this year.

6.) The safeties... yeesh!

7.) BJGE seemed to go outside more today, and with success.

8.) Great goal line stand

9) Big Vince almost had a Dan Connolly moment. Great job on the INT

10.) Bodden was getting called for things that the officials wouldn't even think about calling on Revis.

11.) Ocho is slowly getting blended in.

12.) Let's all hope the injuries are minor.

13.) They've got to do something about defending the short-middle against the pass.

I saw the same thing. I think part of the problem was that one was always on Gates (which worked pretty damn well, he was a no show except for a gift PI from the refs).

With the safety matched up on Gates it left Barrett or Idaghabebboedeoa as the help and neither can get there on time.

yards are pretty unimportant when you have an offense that can score. I think the gameplan is simple on the chargers at this point. Play bend but dont break and watch the chargers implode. They are a great offense at getting yards but once inside the 20s they turn into a different team. When the pats needed to get stops they got them and the offense is so good they can cover for some of the defenses mistakes. The pats shut down gates (whether he is injured or not i have no idea) and you shut down their 2nd WR once floyd was out. VJ definitely killed it though. I wouldnt worry about the underneath passes, i really think that was the gameplan.

Wow...that was quick.

You keep reading books Lombardi...but you'll learn more with your eye's. We'll talk at season's end. Compare notes.

They just didn't have enough people to go around.. If you take one person out of defending the deep pass, with Dowling already out, then you open up the chance for that big play that San Diego loves.. That being said, it was one of the things that I noticed..
