Most likely he never plays again. ...

It sure sounds like a tough injury to bounce back from, especially at his age. He is a competitor and I'm sure he'll give it his best shot, but he wouldn't want to be Willie Mays either.

How quickly things can change. Seems like it was just before last season that the talk was how Brady was breaking down and Manning would go on forever. The lesson is just savor this great football while we can. folks.

Re: OT: Breaking news, Manning has another surgery on neck.

I just had a nightmare vision: Colts go 1-15 and sign Andrew Luck!

Not draft/sign him but get the first pick and auction it off to a team desperate for Luck parlaying it into multiple picks......You may not like Polian but he's sharp when ti comes to building a team.

Re: OT: Breaking news, Manning has another surgery on neck.

Sounds like a laminectomy, for one of us no biggy a routine procedure. For Manning or any athlete that still competes not so much.

A season without Manning is not that fun, but i guess its ok as long as NE wins it all.

Re: So if the Colts go 4-12 ....

The Patriots were coming off a 18-1 season, with one of the most stacked rosters in NFL history. Apart from that they faced the most cupcake schedule I can remember the Pats facing and they had a top 15 QB under center. And they still lost pretty much every game they had against quality competition.

That 08 team was a serious threat to go undefeated again had Brady not gotten hurt. Anyone that compares that situation with that of the 2011 Colts is dumber than a bag of bricks.

you really think he is done forever after this?

I wasn't feeling sympathetic b/c how we were treated when TFB went down. I am not a ****; I just can't find remorse in how we were once treated. I never forget.
When you speak career though... that changes everything and no way do I want injuries or root for them... when a career is involved I care. I hope he can play again, BUT I refuse to feel sorry for the Colts fan base. We were maltreated and that sour taste still bothers me. Sorry Peyton GL in your healing.

Lock up that MVP trophy for....that international superstar, the samba king of Brazil, waterslide slippin....Tommy Boy and his hair

media's new favorite is Rodgers. they'll make sure he wins it.

Re: OT: Breaking news, Manning has another surgery on neck.

But what if Luck decides to stay his senior year? I don't see Luck as an NFL QB, not because of skill, I just think he plays football to please his dad as opposed to playing the game because he loves it, just the impression that I get.

This year is his senior year. And I dunno on what basis you're psychoanalyzing him, but I'm going to go ahead and disagree. You don't become the best QB in college football by not loving the game.

On a side note, here's the Colts' official statement on Manning:

COLTS STATEMENT ON PEYTON MANNING

Re: OT: Breaking news, Manning has another surgery on neck.

No IR. Are they effing stupid. Don't rush the guy back. Your talking about a career year. Sacrifice the year. Come back in 2012 healthy. Don't be stupid Manning.

Re: So if the Colts go 4-12 ....

Add to the fact Cassel threw I think 20+ less TDs than Brady did the year before with virtually the same cast. And it's not like people thought Cassel would set the world on fire, seeing how we used a 3rd round pick on O'Connell and both guys looked like dung preseason. I can't see this being used for the Brady v Manning debate if the Colts are trash this year.

Re: So if the Colts go 4-12 ....

Oh HEwwwwwwL no....

Marshall Faulk did a great job explaining the Colts reliance on Peyton Manning, and the gamble they, as a team have been doing with him.

Basically Manning calls the plays, and runs the offense. He along with a few other QBs in the league do the same (Brady included). He even talked about Kurt Warner being given some of the same powers in St Louis. The problem seems to stem from the colts not preparing the proper backup for that system. Or Manning not willing to share his process with the backups.

The Colts as a team seem to also not have been willing to do so with him either. You need to look no further than Marshall Faulk himself to see that ther Clts are willing to go with youth at certain positions and times. Marshall got traded when the colts plugged in Edgerrin James.

You really need to question the front office of teh Colts. If the system was working the way it should have, Curtis Painter is starting week 1. But for some reason, the allowed Peyton to operate in his own bubble. It worked for his entire time as the starter.

On the flip....Brady never had the weapons that Manning did when he was winning superbowls. Brady won 3, Manning 1.

If the Colts go 4-12, its a tribute to how well the Pats are run, top to bottom, starter to backup. PERIOD.

Look at their schedule and envision the record without him. If they are 2-8 or 3-7 I don't see him coming back this year as the playoffs would be out of the question and he would have to shake off the rust like 2008 or 2009?

I wouldn't say that he's done for sure, and I don't know the specifics of the surgery, but my understanding is that spinal fusion surgeries are typically career-enders. Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe Manning had a different type of fusion surgery than I'm thinking of, but if that's true, then it's bad news for Manning, and the emphasis on "2-3 month minimum" is definitely on "minimum".

I've also heard that anterior surgeries were the norm for this up until the pretty recent past, and the posterior method is less invasive but also less proven. I believe that Manning initially had the posterior surgery, and now just had the anterior surgery. Again, I'm not sure what all of this means.

This seriously sucks; hate to see this happen to any player, but especially one like Manning. Hopefully he recovers well enough to live a healthy life and, if all goes well, continue to play football.

Indy has 7 winnable games going into the bye week. If they can win 5 of them and get Manning back I don't think it's beyond reason they could go 5-1 after the bye and still win the division or get a wild card. Yes the Ravens are a good team but Manning has more or less owned them.

Last year they were decimated with injuries so the above is qualified that they stay healthy minus losing Maning.

I actually hope they do for a couple of reasons. One I'll never have to hear if Indy lost Manning they would win a lot less than 11 games like the Patriots did with a guy who hadn't started since high school........ever again. (Ignoring the fact that it was still 5 less wins and countless fewer yards and TDs against an easier schedule.)

Two it would make the December game meaningful and exciting.

Re: OT: Breaking news, Manning has another surgery on neck.

wow, that sounds painful even to read. Good luck to him and f**** the colts

I'd extend that to F*** the Colts fans as well. Ever since Brady's injury in '08, there's been constant drivel on Colts message boards from those d-bag fans just wishing that someone would take out his knee again and end his career.

The high and mighty, self proclaimed classy Indy fans now find their QB injured, possibly out for the season and potentially the end of his career. All that venom and hate spewing seems to have backfired.

How's that for karma, huh?

Colts aren't going to be a 1-4 win team. Does any bottom seller have this kind of talent? Reggie Wayne,Dallas Clark, pierce garçon,ausin collie, freeney+Mathis, bracket, bullet & beathea and tamme. Match that up vs bengals, browns, bills, redskins. I say 7-9 wins but I'll go with 8.

He would be one Ray Lewis sack away from being a quadriplegic possibly....what insuranc ecompany would sign off on covering him if he does play again? He will have to wear a collar like the old school Steve Grogan one and probably sign a waiver...not lookin good though.
