Re: OT: Breaking news, Manning has another surgery on neck.

Enter Kerry Collins....

Exit with a 4-12 record...

I dont see it, I think they still in the divison.

Sucks for the Colts with that contract he just signed!

From Bob Kravitz in May (just to refresh everyone's memory):

Once again, the Indianapolis Colts properly answered the burning question, "When do they bring in Peyton Manning’s heir apparent?’’

The answer after this week’s draft: not yet.

Let the New England Patriots worry about finding their quarterback of the future. The Colts are worried about preserving their quarterback of the present.

That’s why, instead of drafting a Ryan Mallett, who may never take a snap as a member of the New England Patriots, the Colts surrounded Manning with two more offensive linemen; a defensive lineman; a bowling-ball third-and-short running back, and another defensive back.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when the Colts should begin looking for Manning’s replacement, but I know this much: not now and not for another year or three.

Manning is 35 years old and has never suffered a major injury. There’s no reason to think he won’t continue to stay near the top of his game for another three years, and continue to play and be very productive for at least another five years, up until he is 40.

In a perfect world, you bring in his replacement one full season and maybe two before Manning retires. So we’re talking 2014? 2015? Maybe later?

There’s no rush.

He is right, it wasn't in this year's draft. It was last year's draft or two years ago.

I wonder if Bob gives stock advice too.

I just dont want the colts getting Andrew Luck........I am hoping for a .500 year.....I dont see them going anywhere without peyton....

Rather see them get Luck than Buffalo. I am hoping Luck goes to the NFC myself, but the Colts are a better option than others.

I look forward to the Brady vs. Luck duels. hopefully Luck is a quick learner

I just remember all that talk and cheering about karma when Brady blew his knee out a couple of years ago. Now, I wouldn't wish injury on anybody in any sport, but how's that karma taste Colts fans?

You hope it isnt but at his age that has to be career threatening you would think

I can't remember Colts fans being that bad! Squeelers on the other hand...

The thing I can't fathom is with hundreds of millions of dollars, why on earth do you require a specific set of doctors to rehab? (his lockout excuse). Why not just buy a freaking hospital full of doctors and specialists to work only with you.

I like Manning, respect him, and feared him.
Wouldn't take him over our guy, but he brought it, every time, made every game an event. Beating the Colts meant beating him, always more special because he is such a great player, who hates to lose so much, he doesn't bother trying to hide it, or fake it.
Beating him meant something. Not another day at the office.

Gonna miss him.
I miss him already, actually.
NFL is weaker without that man, hope he is able to overcome the odds and return.

If you were a free agent looking to sign a massive contract at age 35, would you voluntarily have surgery on your spine before negotiating?

I'm not saying that IS the reason for the delay, there could be many factors. But it would be a pretty reasonable way to act.

Re: OT: Breaking news, Manning has another surgery on neck.

I don't wish injury on anyone, including Peyton, but now let's see what that franchise is made of. When Brady missed an entire season the Patriots still managed an 11-5 record. Let's see if the Colts can even come within earshot of that. I highly doubt it.

Problem is that it's a no-win situation for us fans. If the team does poorly, they will use it as excuse for how Manning is better than Brady (and the whole "system QB" **** again). If the team plays well, that would suck as we all all hate the dolts. I guess a mediocre season, missing the playoffs by a game or two would be best-case for me.

I wish him well. But I can't believe he will miss that much time getting his bolts tightened.

AFC south secondarys are a joke men

Colts aren't going to be a 1-4 win team. Does any bottom seller have this kind of talent? Reggie Wayne,Dallas Clark, pierce garçon,ausin collie, freeney+Mathis, bracket, bullet & beathea and tamme. Match that up vs bengals, browns, bills, redskins. I say 7-9 wins but I'll go with 8.

Well, while the Colts have the players you mentioned, you forgot to take into account a few things.

1) They have 2 new starters on the O-line in Reitz at LG and Castonzo at LT.
2) None of the Colts CBs really scare anyone.
3) The Colts OLBs are mediocre at best..
4) If Kerry Collins has complete grasp of the Colts offense after just 3 weeks, then he is, literally, a savant, and should do as well or better than Manning.

Sad news. The league is worse without Peyton. Hope he fully recovers for next season.

Re: So if the Colts go 4-12 ....

Does this hurt Brady's legacy?

I'm hearing alot of people already talking about the fact that if Manning sits for most of the season or the entire season and they have a bad record, it makes the "is Manning more important to his team over Brady" argument more true.

Seeing that when Brady went down in 2008 and Cassell came in and we still had an 11-5 record "supposedly" shows that Manning means more to his team than Brady means to the Partiots.

Thoughts on this?

My thought is that it cements Belichick's legacy on how to build and maintain a franchise.

So, IR or less?

He is most probably out for the year, and the Colts know it but will try their best not to let the news get out, because it will hurt business.
