Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

This thread is almost a year old. I hate this resurrection of old threads, ESPECIALLY when little value (aka 'I love this thread') is added.

I attempted to read the article, but was blocked by a sign-up link. I then realized it wasn't relevant because the thread is TEN MONTHS OLD.

Sigh. I hate when people resurrect old threads for no point.

Make a new thread and link to the old one if you must. I don't get why this thread was brought back from the dead.

You need to read some of these great comments. Brady fans jumped the bandwagon before Manning threw his pick six.:singing:

Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

Great Bump. It encapsulates the failure that is, Peyton Manning. He's a great QB don't get me wrong, but he aint TOM BRADY.....
NE fans wet thier pants and pray at the alter of Manning because he made another SB. Then, on cue Manning, coughs up the fur ball. Book It, TB gets his fourth this year. Manning, seriously.....

Stats are for LOSERS!

I didn't know you were a mod. Welcome aboard! :)

The local media experts need to be held responsible for their words.

Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

Well, Bob has been telling us the last two weeks on the radio that the Colts are going to be dangerous in the playoffs because Dallas Clark will be back soon. Ryan knows his crap since us mere peons think that the fact that Clark is on Injured Reserve will prevent him from returning until the 2011 season, but Ryan knows more than us. He couldn't be mistaken since he said the same thing like three days in a row and if he was wrong, someone would have corrected him by now.

Another gem he gave us on the radio this week is that the Tuck Rule was never called prior to the Snow Bowl game eventhough it was called three times that season including in the Pats/Jets game where the refs ruled Vinny Testeverde never tucked the ball which led to a Jets' field goal.

Ryan should really stick to basketball. His lack of football knowledge is astounding considering he has been writing articles about the Patriots for decades. WEEI must have really been scraping for hosts to dig up that crumudgeon to guest host on Dennis and Callahan. If 98.5 didn't counter him with the equally as clueless Jerry Trupiano, I doubt I would have listened long enough to get those words of wisedom from Ryan.

Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

Funny, Rob. I had him on the other day and he prefaced his football comments by saying that it was a distant third in his comfort level/area of expertise after baseball and basketball. Then he spouts nonsense. My favorite point he made was when a caller said that Woodson should have been flagged for roughing the passer on the tuck play, Ryan replies:

Well roughing the qb is a new rule and wouldn't have been called back then.

Umm, no. You couldn't hit a qb in the head then, just like now. I love Ryan's baseball/basketball stuff but he is in way over his head when it comes to football.

Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

I always had a lot of respect for Ryan.. but this NFL season I have seen him and read him a handful of times and he definitely lacks football knowledge.. I am not gonna bash him for this article he wrote a year ago.. this is what the media does.. they over exaggerate the present and blow everything out of proportion. '
I do agree though that you cant simply measure how great a quarterback is by the amount of rings he has won.. rings are a team accomplishment. Tom Brady is not the best because of the amount of rings he has won. When you factor in everything including the superbowls he is most likey the best QB to ever play the game. I only go as far back as Marino and Montana.. so I cant comment on any players before that.
Tom got hurt and in the back of are minds we were unsure he would ever be the great quarter back again.. maybe really good but would he ever be great again?.. well this year obviously he has erased any doubt that I and or anyone else had.

In 20-30 years what will people say about the great Patriot dynasty? The 70's Steelers defense.. The Montana Rice 49'ers.. etc. etc. The Brady Belichick combo? Most likely..

Ryan on WEEI this week actually admitted he's seriously "re-thought" the Brady/Manning thing a year later. My only question is: "What's preventing him from writing a follow-up column?"

Ryan on WEEI this week actually admitted he's seriously "re-thought" the Brady/Manning thing a year later. My only question is: "What's preventing him from writing a follow-up column?"

The same thing preventing William C. "Retrograde" Rhoden, Ron "Draft Terrell and not Seymour" Borges and every other columnist from accepting responsibility for what they write.

I admire writers who can admit that they were wrong and move on. Those that sweep it under the rug are frauds living with problems about their selves.

Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

Most of the writers cited--other than Borges--don't seem to watch much football.

It's totally easy to make critical remarks about both Manning and Brady without diminishing them.

They really play differently.

Manning's touch and accuracy is what makes him great, as well as the fact that he learns from defenses and becomes impossible to defend if you give him enough series. But his pocket presence has always been questionable, as well as his tendency to panic. You can give him props for things he does better than Brady. No shame in that.

It's the same thing as saying that Marino is easily the best pure passer in football history. He is. But Marino was a cuss on the field who whined so much and didn't seem to inspire his team. To this day I haven't seen a QB with a better release, a prettier ball or more accuracy. He moved in the pocket better than even Brady did, but he wasn't a Montana.

Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

We pats fans have become a parody, all running here to post non pom pom articles about the patriots, and bash the writer. Sorry to break it to some of you but i said it all year on gameday threads. Brady is getting favreitis. So much success early on had given him false confidence. He needs a coach/ coordinator that can reel him in. Hos knack for throwing late game int's became expected almost.

Idiot.

Bob Ryan knows LESS about football and the Patriots than the vast majority of Patsfan posters. Who cares what this ignorant dinosaur thinks about stuff he doesn't understand? Nobody reads the Globe (Pravda East) anymore anyhow.

Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

I'm sure it's been said already here, but Brady has outthrown Manning in every circumstance and on every surface. Manning plays in a dome, so his stats are inflated. And he can't touch Brady in the postseason. These are all facts. Anything else is wishful thinking or willful ignorance.

Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

Don't take this guy seriously. He's basically just trying to be sure he gets his airtime on HSPN. Stuff like this gets it for him. End of story.

Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

At the end of the day, it's about winning - That's it plain and simple, winning the game, putting your team in position to win and not making mistakes that cause your team to win.

To that end, who's better Peyton or Brady?

There is a reason why Super Bowl Rings mean so much when debating the greatness of a QB, it's not the only factor, but it's a large part of the arguement.

To me this is a very simple thing to check, validate and then declare a GOAT and end the debate.

Anything other than Winning percentage is just all fluff and fodder for haters and people pushing their own personal or team's agenda.

Brady .775
Manning .676

You tell me who's better.

Ok, How about Playoffs?

Brady .778
Manning .500

Again, Who's the better QB?

Bob Ryan knows LESS about football and the Patriots than the vast majority of Patsfan posters.

Two weeks ago he was filling in on D&C and was talking about how the Colts will keep getting better this season, starting with the return of Dallas Clark for the playoffs. :ugh:

Either he doesn't know how injured reserve works or was somehow not aware of one of the biggest injuries of the 2010 NFL season.

Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

I was pretty taken aback by Ryan article and now I am amazed with some of the fan reaction to it. Sadly, there is too high a % of Pat fans that have no real - that is REAL appreciation for Tom Brady. I am NOT one of these people. It is truly sad and I don't get it.

I also don't get the debate that continues on Manning vs Brady. Brady has it all over Manning. To me it is not nearly as close as what alot of people think. It is not 1A, 1B - it is #1, #2. Brady clearly is #1 and why....?

WINS, baby, WINS!!!
*Better regular season record
*Better playoff record
*More Championships

Other important notables that are not deciding factors, but are facts!
*Location, Location, Location: Brady plays outside for a cold weather team vs 9 guaranteed games in a dome (8 in Indy, 1 in Houston) with the rest of his division being in mild weather climates.
*Supporting cast: Brady has had fewer pro-bowlers (6)in his career on HIS side of the ball vs Manning's 19.

...and lastly!
*Brady, most TD's in a season (50)
*Brady better overall QB rating - in two fewer seasons
*Brady fastest QB in history to win 100 games

Let's not forget that Brady took over a 0-3 team in 2001 that was 5-11 in 2000 with Belichick's arse being on the hot seat. Brady has never had a losing record, losing season. The man is simply a winner. Doesn't matter who is protecting him, who he is throwing to or who is on defense. It's Brady! Tom Brady is the xfactor. Belichick only became a genius when Tom Brady stepped on to the field September 23, 2001 before that, he was a coach everyone hated and wanted, discussed being fired - remember??????

It's Brady all day long baby....all day long!

Minor nit. 2001 Pats were 0-2 when Brady took over starting the next week in a big W against the Colts. David Patten day.

Patten's big day was Week 6.
