Rumor: Moss to Vikings?

I'm not sure what you think I was trying to say. I'm trying to point out two things:

(1) There is a specific rule that limits what the Patriots can get as a comp pick if Moss leaves as a FA in 2011.

(2) People who are arguing that "the Pats can get a comp pick if they don't trade him and let him walk in 2011" are, by and large overstating the best-case scenario.

Personally, I'm not happy with the idea of trading Moss, but I'm kinda resigned to the fact that one way or the other, he's not going to be a Patriot in 2011.

Got it, I think. A trade now for something lower than a 5th would give the Pats more than they would have gotten by letting him walk.

Let's not forget the crucial info here: Moss asked for the trade.

Agreed. I certainly hope this whole trade issue falls apart and Randy stays with the Patriots this season. He has so many things he brings to the table that I simply cannot see how losing him makes the team better. BB consistently says that the only time he will make a trade or release a player to sign someone else is if it makes the team better, and I just cannot see how that happens in this situation.

There simply aren't enough WR's of Moss' caliber out there.

sadly i see this happening for sure tommorow because there seems to be too much momentum...if the pats were doing it , they wouldve issued a statement by now.
this move makes sense if it was done before training camp not sure about now..

i wish we had one win which we could enjoy without drama..

We'll see.

A better question is what he does to the Jets. Right now that game is a toss up. Add Moss and it gets interesting.

Yeah, it was so interesting in Week 2. I don't think he'd make a bit of difference. He couldn't do anything against them with Brady and he and Grandfather Favre aren't going to have time to put anything together in less than a week other than, "You run as fast as you can and I'll throw it as far as I can."

True...but I still don't know how it make sense to trade Moss this year...so he walks next year...so what? But we are 3-1 with a great shot at doing good things in the playoffs this year.

Belichick must be really confident in relying on the dink and dunk approach and strong defenses this year.

Unless this year is a scratch for him...but again...we are 3-1...just doesnt make much sense for me...

That cannot be overstated. Especially for those bashing BB right now. BB did not instigate this.

If by "lower" you mean "earlier" or "better," then yes.

Agree with this. If we keep Moss and let him sign a UFA deal, we would get a (best case) 3rd rounder in the 2012 draft. If he doesn't perform with his new team, or if he signs for moderate money, the pick could easily be lower. Compensatory picks come at the end of the round.

So, a 2011 3rd rounder from Minnesota is clearly not the same thing. It is unambiguously better. And it's tradeable.

Mmmm...i'm sorry but have you only watched Randy Moss only just this year?

Good lord man...youtube Moss sometime...Moss makes his living with "You run as fast as you can and I'll throw it as far as I can."

Yeah definitely seems like Belichick has quit this year.

Best case comp pick, as I've pointed out elsewhere (search the thread for "AdamJT13") is a fifth-rounder in 2012.

I didnt think it was that funny...

Well you're wrong. League sources, multiple blogs, tweets, retweets and mistakenly tweeted direct messages have confirmed it. But we will know more tommorrow. One a side note, we have not seen each other today.

This one is really going to hurt (me) if it happens. I won't assign blame, but it will just suck.

Yeah definitely seems like Belichick has quit this year.

Yeah, he's just a quitter. He knows it's all about one guy, not the team, yet he still does this.

PHONE CALL:

Brad Childress:"Hey,Billy Boy....sorry about that Garrett Mills screw-up....Can we talk about Randy?"

Bill Belichick:"F-ck you.....Put your boss on"

Favre will just chuck it up and Moss is a tracking beacon. Plus Moss knows the west coast offense. Won't take long to align the stars!

Source: Randy Moss trade moving toward happening in the next day

Moss backThe Patriots talks with the Vikings are heating up, and it all centers on Randy Moss. The electric receiver may have a new home sooner rather than later.

One source with intimate knowledge of the situation just told me that not only is the belief that the Moss-to-Vikings trade will happen… but it will also likely happen in the next day.

That means that this person believes Moss will become a Vikings receiver by the end of Wednesday. Nothing is certain, of course, but things are moving quickly.

Now, there have been no contract talks between Moss and the Vikings, and it’s not clear what compensation the Patriots would receive. It is also not 100 clear positive that a renegotiated contract will come immediately with the trade.

Meanwhile, Moss waits. He has not seen or spoken with coach Bill Belichick today, and I’m told their relationship is still strong. But it may be close to ending as coach and player. Stay tuned…

Well this team gave away Vrabel and Cassel for NOTHING!!!

I would not be surprised if they gave away the teams best WR ever for a 3rd rounder.

I am not happy.
