Rumor: Moss to Vikings?

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora "hears" that a Randy Moss trade to the Vikings is not a "fait accompli by any stretch."
"There are hurdles to clear," says LaCanfora. Per NFL Network colleague Michael Lombardi, the Patriots have not given Moss permission to discuss a contract with any other team. This supports PFT's report that Moss has not commenced talks with the Vikes. The Boston Herald has been told that a trade is not "done," but confirms that the deal is being discussed with Minnesota.

If this happens, I hate the thought of the "Pats grew tired of Moss's act" stories. Moss has been a great professional for this team. You can argue whether or not his presence has been strategically better for the Pats, but as a fan I'm very pleased with his stay here.

I don't really like Moss's attitude and approach, and the quality of his play is clearly in decine. But it is hard to see how this doesn't weaken the team in 2010. In the NFL trades are player-for-picks, almost never player-for-player.

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but the vikings did make a trade this morning sending Mitchell to the Browns, essentially opening up a roster spot.

If this trade happens, I'll be pretty pissed. Would basically just be throwing in the towel on 2010. If they move on from him in the offseason, I can get on board with that, since they'll have a full offseason to adjust the offsense to not having Moss stretching the field and being doubled all the time. But in week 5? Even with the bye week coming out, that strikes me as an awfully dramatic change to make on the fly, especially if the compensation something as simple as accelerating the 3rd round pick that you're getting either way one year forward.

I still don't buy it. screw ESPN and Fox Sports; until it happens, I'm not expecting it.

Breer says the difference is getting a 2011 instead of 2012. Accelerates development/reloading. WHich doesn't strike me as an extremely exciting difference.

Yeah, the way draft picks seem to be perpetually forwarded here anyway, that doesn't really make me say "well, okay then, lets do this".
