Theres more to it....BB working a trade (for Mankins) with another team or getting Mankins signed and on the roster is my guess.

Can we stop with the constant "Patriots are trading Mankins" references when the Patriots don't even have the right to trade an unsigned player? Thanks.

No need for those moves to "happen by now." The more last minute those moves are, the less time the Jets have to game plan for that, if they do.
I really doubt Who replaces Maroney. Who is a baseball player. New England Patriots are a football team. Why would Belichick sign a first baseman?
Nobody yet. Early rumor was J.James from practice squad. But, since we cut Murrell and activated Ojinnaka. Some are speculating S. Crable. He won the black jersey practice award last week.
When did this rule come into place? Is this one of those uncapped year rules. It clearly wasn't the rule when the Dolphins traded Wes Welker.
Maybe somebody remembers the rule better than I. When there was a CBA, wasn't there a rule about having to keep 53 on the roster or else it impacted the practice squad and how long somebody could be kept on it????If you fell below 53 for a certain period of time, it had an effect on the practice squad but I can't remember the specifics...
I wonder if a) it is still in effect in the uncapped year and b) some of the Pats moves are in response to ti, if still in effect.
Thanks in advance,
The rule is that you are allowed to have third-year players on the PS ("normally" they only have two years of eligibility) if and only if you keep the roster at 53.

The trade idea is not entirely off the table, you know. The Pats can do a sign and trade if that what Mankins agrees to and if the Pats can make any signing bonuses of equitable value in the trade. My understanding is that the signing bonus goes to the cap of the team that signs the player and does not travel with the contract in any trade. Mankins for a high round draft pick plus an inexpensive player could work out well. I'd trade the mankins contract in a minute - the well is so poisoned now that the Kraft family is involved, Mankins will never be comfortable around Foxboro.
And he said that 'my hope and intention is that I'll be a Patriot and go into the Patriots hall of fame.' And I said the same thing to him.
