Reiss reporting Jarvis Green to be cut by Denver...

Re: Reiss reporting Jarvis Green to be cut....

Anyone have and idea on how his release would impact potential Compensatory Picks?

That's an excellent question. All of the vague formulas refer to the FAs "signing contracts," not how they perform. But I really don't know -- a big-$$ signing cut in camp is such a rare event that I can't think of comparables.

I believe that Green would be removed from the equation, but Miguel or AdamJT would be better people to comment

Re: Reiss reporting Jarvis Green to be cut....

I've read that trhe players' contract is by far the most important determinant as to award of compensatory selections, but that performance and post-season awards also factor in.

Does that performance have to be for the team who signed him? What if he registers 6-8 sacks for the team he LEFT??? (i'm joking, of course)

But if player was cut before year two there would be a large cap hit next year, zero cap hit this year.

Pats have "genuine interest" per Christopher Price.

Yep, zero cap hit this year, and zero return on your $7 million dollar investment. Also zero production from the player this year. Whatever way you want to spin it, this is pretty solid evidence that he is done. I thought his play in 2009 was already evidence of that. I wouldn't want to cut any of the DL they have now for as Deus put it "a pass rushing specialist who can't rush the passer" and I hope they pass on him.

Christopher Price has confirmed that Patriots have "genuine interest" in Jarvis Green.

Good for them, for reasons I already stated, I hope they pass on him.

All due respect Armchair Quarterback, but if Bill Belichick thinks he may have something left, then I will try and stay open minded.

Fair enough, just giving my opinion.

Re: Reiss reporting Jarvis Green to be cut....

I think that Green returning would be a good thing.

Re: Reiss reporting Jarvis Green to be cut....

well if reports are true that burgess is just about history than jarvis green may very well get a look at that DE slot as well as in some sub packages

And that's a sign of just how desperate the situation is at that spot.

I wouldn't say the situaton is desperate. According to Price, the Pats wanted Green back, but not at y ears and $20 Million.. Now, they can sign him at a reduced amount. And I think that would be a good thing. I also think it has nothing to do with Burgess as much as it does the loss of Ty Warren.

Maybe JG had problems adjusting to a different D and he has a little left in the tank, lets hope so if BB picks him up.

I would have to disagree, because what jarvis green once did well more closely aligns with what burgess was supposed to do here for our picks we ponied up.

Ty warren is stout against the run and can set the edge something jarvis has never been good at.

It's because the situation is desperate. Don't fool yourself. The Broncos gave him $7 million guaranteed and still cut him rather than drop $800k on him for the season.

Sometimes the situation has to get worse before it can get better. I'm all for going with the guys we have rather than bringing in a veteran jag at that spot. The same with the defensive backfield im opposed to paying journeyman vets all the time and not developing our young talent.

The steelers and ravens have been doing it for 8-10 years now and its working out great for them so far.

I think you are getting your assignments mixes up. The 3-4 DE doesn't set the edge. In the 3-4 the OLB sets the edge. In the 4-3, the DE sets the edge.

As for Green coming back becasue of the loss of Warren, it's more about the experience he brings than it is his run-stuffing ability.. Which has always been under-rated..

No, it hasn't. He sucks against the run. Hell, we saw him exposed repeatedly last year.

Indeed.

Reiss has always had a soft-spot for Green (and deservedly so).

But stick a fork in Jarvis. He's done.

I think you're confusing your Broco DL contracts. Jamal Williams got $7M guaranteed of a $16M contract. Green got a $2.5M signing bonus on a $20M contract with $7M due over the first two years of the deal in roster bonuses and salary. Looks like a reasonable attempt to cut losses. It also might argue the Green isn't the player he was before taking the abuse from filling Seymour's starting position last year.
