It's "Peyton Manning", not "Payton Manning". Guess that's the caliber of reporter we're dealing with.

the stats say the pats have one of the best defense's in the NFL

the only thing that the fish got on the pats is that they got 2 real passrusher's

I agree your defense is ranked at the top of the NFL Now. Pats were not #6 weeks ago. Saints have faced many #5 defenses in 3 years ( 5 this year ) and still produced a #1 offense ranking for those years , this is not even close to new for the saints offense, the defense is new. Patriots are not the 85 bears or even the 2006 bears, they are good and we respect them, but nothing new to N.O. . Nice post enjoy the conversation, honored to have this game.

our defense looks pretty average but you have to dig to find the real story
Interceptions. #1
passes defended. #1
opposing passer rating. #1
defensive touchdowns scored. #1
completion percentage by opposing passer. #1
third down percentage. #1
turnover differential. #4
passing yards surrendered per attempt. #4
red zone defense. #5

The Saints have faced BAD QBs and WEAK offenses. I posted this in another thread, but:

As for the Saints defense, a lot of the INTs have come from inexperienced QBs.
3 INTs off Matthew Stafford playing his first career NFL game straight out of the draft.
3 INTs off Kevin Kolb making his first career NFL start.
1 INT off Trent Edwards
3 INT off Sanchez (2nd in INTs thrown now)
1 INT off Eli Manning
1 INT off Chad Henne making his 3rd career start
3 INT off Matt Ryan who was in a funk (5 INTs in 3 games prior to playing NO)
3 INT off Josh Freeman making his 3rd career start.

So the Saints had 13 of their INTs off of QBs who had started a combined 12 NFL games in their careers.
And 18 of their INTs against average, terrible, or "new" QBs.
The Best QBs you have faced are Mark Bulger and Eli Manning... not to impressive.

Now, I'm not saying the Saints defense is bad, it's just not as good as it seems. More importantly, though, is that Brady and this offense is just extremely hard to shut down and I don't think there is anything to suggest NO will be up to the task.

If Detroit, Philly, the Giants, Atlanta, Carolina, and St. Louis were able to put up 20+ points on the Saints, I don't see any reason why the Pats don't put up 30+.

Brees would be an average QB if he was playing
this year for the PATs.
IMO

Tommy handles all kinds of pressure and has only a mediocre running game
to work with.
Protect Brady like Brees gets protected and give Tommy a running game
like Brees enjoys and Tommy would set records that would never be
matched for a thousand years.!

In 2007 and 2008 seasons, Brees had basically zero run game and still ranked No. 1 in about every offensive category. And he makes his O-line look better than it is at pass-blocking because he gets rid of the ball so quickly.

Brees needs to win 3 SBs to be considered better than Brady.

He has a better shot at performing the triple-lindy.

"In 2007 and 2008 seasons, Brees had basically zero run game and still ranked No. 1 in about every offensive"

well seeing as Brady missed all of 2008 that's kind of moot. and do you really want to compare Brees' 07 to Brady's?

I wasn't comparing Brady to Brees in my post. I was responding to someone who said that Drew would be average on the Pats because he gets good protection and has a good run game with the Saints. Obviously, he doesn't need a good run game to be successful.

I know you're already banned for being a jackass, ...

Damn, why'd ban him? He was such an a-hole that he was fun. Why let NEM hang out here and destroy threads forever but ban a village idiot with a room temperature IQ but high entertainment value in a few hours? No fair!

(Just kidding, Ian. Thanks as always for watching out for the Board. We appreciate it.)

OK, I'm trying to figure out whether you're another idiot like the Saints "fan" Stfan25 (what's 25, his IQ?) who just got banned or whether you actually know something about the NFL and we should listen to your point of view. Jury's out, but that post at least shows some knowledge of the game.

Look, tell your fellow Saints fans that this board welcomes intelligent oppo posters, but has no patience with idiocy.

We've been to six super bowls. Only the Steelers and 'boys have been to more.

We'll listen to intelligent criticism and even accept some clever trash talk and certainly man up if you beat us, but tell your friends to stow the bull**** and stick to the facts when you haven't even been to one SB, let alone won three.

Personally, I have a lot of respect for Brees and what you guys have done so far this season.

Let's settle it on the field on Monday. My prediction? Winner wins the Super Bowl.

You can call me an idiot if you want. I really don't care. I just know my team pretty well, but by no means am I an X's and O's guy. Personally, I feel Brady is a better QB for one reason, he's taller. Brees is only 6 feet tall and gets a little too many passes batted down at the line because of it. However, I've never believed you have to look at playoff/super Bowl victories to determine how good any player is. Football is too much of a team sport. I would wish for an exciting game, but I know this game will be exciting no matter what I wish for.

Question: how does Brees handle the blitz? I haven't watched him enough to know. Also, are his stats better inside the numbers or outside?

Welcome to the Board.

Welcome to the Board.

Thanks for the welcome. All I can say to answer your question is that I saw a stat recently that said Brees and Peyton Manning were tied for the least blitzed QB's in the league. I believe both were blitzed only 18% of the time. I've also heard that Brees' key to this success is the amount of time he puts in watching film. If he sees a blitz coming, most of the time he knows exactly where to throw it to thwart the blitz. He also resets his blockers pre-snap to protect against the blitz. I'm sure Brady is good at this as well.

So if the Saints win a 3-0 game with Brees throwing three picks while Brady throws none and the only points scored in the game comes off a Faulk fumble on the Pats 20 that the Saints offense doesn't get a single yard before kicking the field goal, does that mean Brees is better?

I'm sorry, but even if their is a changing of the guard going on this year (and I still don't think there is), this game on Monday will not signify which QB is better based on who wins. Even if Brees throws for 400 yards and 6 TDs, it doesn't mean that. It is one game and the outcome could come from a number of different reasons that have nothing to do with the QB position. Besides, Brady and Brees won't be on the same field at the same time.

Brees has definitely closed the gap between him and Brady and Manning, but come Tuesday morning, neither Brady nor Brees will have won this season's Lombardi trophy.

Really?!?

In 2008:

Rivers had the most yards (Brees was 4th)
Brees tied Rivers for most TDs
Brees was third in MOST interceptions after Favre and Cutler (hence he wasn't even close to the fewest)
Rivers had the best QB rating (Brees was fourth again)
Chad Pennington was first in completion percentage (Brees was 8th)
Rivers was first in percentage of passes making first down (Brees was 7th)
Rivers was first in yards per attempt (Brees was second)

So in the seven offensive categories I mentioned, Brees was first in one and he was tied with Rivers for it.

In 2007:

Brady had the most yards, Brees was 11th
Brady was first in TDs, Brees was 6th
Brees was 6th in MOST interceptions
Brady was first in QB rating, Brees was 11th
Brady was first in completion percentage, Brees was 3rd
Brady was first in yards per attempt, Brees was 19th
Roethlisberger was first in percentage passes for first down, Brees was 13th

So in the two years you mentioned, I listed 14 major categories and Brees was first in only one of them. Brady was first in 5 of them and he missed the entire 2008 season.

Welcome to the Board.

Brees passer rating goes up to 122 when blitz by more than one defensive player. He is the least blitz QB in the league for this reason.

his stats are.
Drew Brees

pretty much
2006 brees#1 brady #7
2007 brees #2 Brady #1
2008 brees #1 Brady hurt
2009 bress #2 Brady #5

Some info on Brees for you , he a good guy, kind of a geek
YouTube - Drew Brees
as BB said hes very accurate

What are these rankings for? They aren't QB rating, yards, TDs, completion percentage, or any other major category. Brees has never finished first in a major QB category other than TDs in 2008.

Here are the link to QBs by QB ratings per year:

2006
http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...rience=null&tabSeq=0&qualified=true&Submit=Go

Brees 3rd, Brady 9th

2007
http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...rience=null&tabSeq=0&qualified=true&Submit=Go

Brady 1st, Brees 11th

2008
http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...rience=null&tabSeq=0&qualified=true&Submit=Go

Brees 4th, Brady out

2009
http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...rience=null&tabSeq=0&qualified=true&Submit=Go

Brees 2nd, Brady 5th - But the season is far from over and the trend has been Brady rising and Brees dropping.

I'm pretty sure Brees had over 5,000 yards.
