OT: Chris Chambers cut by Chargers

According to Football Outsiders Chambers has consistently been among the worst starting WRs in the league for most of his career. He's a waste of money and a roster spot, even at veteran minimum.

Bilichick was just asked about him on the Big Show, he said if we need to fit him under our cap we could, but we will also look for needs from other position.

interesting....

we sorely lack a #3 option right now....is Tate able? it usually takes a reciever 3 years to get going.....when will Edelman come back?

and dont forget, chambers had a couple of years where he was really good, and has dropped of the last 3 or 4 years....does that sound familiar to anyone else?

a lack of a respectable 3rd WR will hurt this team this year, and if the coaching staff doesnt think Tate is up to it, than yea, let chambers go through waivers and offer him a contract....what u got to lose?s

it may stunt the growth of edelman and tate for the moment, but it will be beneficial later on

Calling Al Davis... a "fast" receiver only 2.4 mil for the year!! I rather see what Tate and Edelman can do and if not we always have Terrence Nunn.

Aqua4Ever04 should be feeling better now. Bolts fans from that thread probably wish they could take that one back.
definitely, but he DID help vincent jackson to flourish

so we owe for that at least

but yeah, his production was severely down, he couldn't get open to save his life, and he keeps getting outworked by dbs and not fighting for passes (he actually had that problem his whole duration in sd...he just doesn't fight off the db well enough like our other guys do)

Anyone whos watched a charger game this year will tell you how badly he's played, i liked chambers a while back though, if they signed him as a 3rd option i would trust what there doing and be okay with it, but if it was up too me i'd stay away.

^Jcdavey the outworked by DB's is 100% true, 07 AFC champ game here i remember Samuel just pulling the ball away from his hands for a pick

If he passes through waivers would we be able to sign him as a FA then? If so, what the hell, sign him to the vet min and give him a shot. He could at least provide competition for the young guys.

No. He drops too many passes. Why take reps away from a group of hard working, smart young men who improve week to week? Makes NO sense.

He can't do any worse then what Galloway did.

Newsflash!

Galloway's roster spot on the 53 has been taken by Tate

Whom do you cut to sign Chambers? the worst starting WR in the NFL (now that Galloway's gone)

Galloway had 7 catches before getting cut, while playing in just 2 games. Chambers had 9 catches in 4 games, playing in an offense he was familiar with. I have every confidence that Chambers could do worse than Galloway.

Doesn't Chambers qualify as a vet to get paid for the entire season?

??? What young guys? The only young WR on the roster is Edelman who doesn't need competition to try harder, and anyway, it isn't exactly a "what the hell" situation. You'd have to cut one of our current team members to sign Chambers.

Brandon Tate says hello.

yeah...I've been struggling with this trying to nail it down but if we picked him up it would count a pro rated portion of 2.5 mil.Maybe somebody else has a better handle on this, but for more than the vet minimum I say no way

You're going to cut Brandon Tate to make room for CHris CHambers? Are you nuts?

if im not mistaken this post was meant to show we have to young wrs

Doesn't Chambers qualify as a vet to get paid for the entire season?

Yes, he does.

Assuming no one is foolish enough to pick him up off waivers, he can force the Chargers to cough up the remaining $2.4M in salary he's owed, and keep whatever salary a team pays him (which presumably would be vet min, maybe +incentives).
