Taylor could be gone for awhile: Reiss

I think that everyone who has been watching this team for more than a couple of years (which doesn't appear to be HarkDawg) and is whining about Maroney should remember how Faulk started out: a fumble prone RB. I can remember close family members back then screaming and wondering aloud why Faulk was given a spot on the team everytime he put the ball on the ground. Now look at the guy...

I was just thinking the same thing.

Unless we need Green-Ellis for special teams, I wouldn't even activate him for this game. I certainly wouldn't expect him to get a lot of carries.

As an aside, I don't like running back by committee, although I do like running backs having roles. As another poster suggested, I would give the starting running back the ball 20+ times, and have a third round back. The other back could have a role or be there just in case of injuries. There is no need for FOUR running backs in the game plan.

And just BTW, when Mraoney has gotten the ball 20+ times he has averaged over 4.5 yards per carry. But, I have no issues if Belichick chooses Morris, or Faulk as the man of the moment.

If the load must be shared, we have Maroney and Morris to share the load, and we have Faulk as the third down back.

As was the case last year, Green-Ellis is the EMERGENCY #5 running back. Given the age of the running backs, Belichick decided to use a roster spot in case two running backs were injured at the same time. I didn't agree with decision. But then I don't think Green-Ellis should be an NFL starter at this time in his career. Personally, I like having guys like Morris and Faulk on the team to pick up more reps.

Green-Ellis is NOT in Edelman's situation or Vollmer's where one injury leads to significant reps.

Bad news but not unexpected.Taylor has been injured most of his career.

No..... GIANTS are a RUNNING TEAM

Earth, Wind and Fire. They had the luxury of 3 Solid RB's. Where you could switch it up and run w/ the other 2.

don't make excuses for Maroney's failure to deliver solid runs in THE GAME that mattered most.

Man, watching you try and spin your way out of your stupid comments is funny..

You go from saying Morris shouldn't have been PUPed to saying that you meant IRed in 2007. You go from saying that Maroney stunk in the 2007 play-offs to saying he stunk in the 2007 SB. Then, when shown that Jacobs performed essentially the same, you make the claim that the Giants were a running team. Yet, in 2007, the Giants had 544 pass attempts to 435 attempts by RBs.

No one is making excuses. We're talking about FACTS. In the 2007 SB, the entire O-LINE stunk. PERIOD. And it got WORSE after Neal went down with his injury.

Yes I will judge him on 1 game. He has not impressed me with a consistent solid running game.

How can he be consistent if you only base it on ONE GAME???

"Please Lord Belichick, please give our young rusher in his 2nd year, BJGE, a chance. Maroney has looked lousy so far. Please?"

Amen

BJGE has been given plenty of chances. He sucks.

BJ would have performed MUCH BETTER if he was the RB to go to. GIANTS had 3 equal options and split the carries.

Well you had to see this coming, just unsure of when. IMO it's good it happened now and hopefully he'll be good to go for the playoffs. He has been our best runner and would make a difference.

Till then I'm confident Maroney, Morris, and BJGE will carry the load.

Here is Maroney in SB 42

14 attempts 36 carries 2.57 Y/A

BUST terrible terrible terrible.
In case you didn't notice, our oline was getting dominated in the Superbowl. No running back was going to run on Strahan, Tuck, and Umenyiora AND Fred Robbins (a solid DT) at the same time.

Also, the Patriots barely ran the ball at all. Would've been nice to at least keep the Giants pass rush honest.

Nope. It hasn't. But lets remember that the O-line hasn't been consistent in its run blocking either.

As for Maroney "not being much of a factor" that's your myopic opinion. You've been on the Maroney hater wagon for awhile and not been anything but biased about it.

I find it laughable that people like yourself can claim a guy "sucks for pretty much 60 minutes" yet you think you know wtf you are talking about. People like you are friggin hypocrites because you aren't nearly as critical of players such as MAYO or Wilfork or Mankins. Yet, Mayo made plenty of mistakes last year. And you think that just because he was the best defensive rookie, that it means much. I can tell you that Mayo consistently over-ran plays last year and it was only his athleticism that allowed him to compensate for it. Yet people like you ignore stuff like that

So what you are telling me is that EVERY great RB in NFL history had a GREAT OL in front of him...I STRONGLY have to disagree- Ask HOFers like Barry Sanders,Walter Peyton and Earl Campbell what kind of OL they had but found a way to makes plays,I am not comparing HOFers to Maroney becuase its not fair to those who were great but you see what I mean, even future HOFer like our own Fred Taylor didn't always have a great OL in Jax to run with.

Great RBs ,heck even good RBs find a way to make yardage when there is none in front of them,They juke, they bump off defenders, they push off, they bump off, hell they do whatever it takes to keep the chains moving and thats what seperates the men from the boys.

Maroney too many times stops too long and dances around waiting for stuff to happen,This isn't college where he was able to juke his way around, the NFL is faster, bigger and smarter - In this league you have to man up and fight your way to yardage,it won't come as easy as it was in college sure sometimes you have to wait for your line to open holes but you need the vision and guts to take chances at critical times.

You believe Maroney is something special or believe he will be..I think as well as many here that he is a bust - Unless your name is god you are not guaranteed to be right with everything in your mind that you think is right.

As far as hypocrites go,you like other Maroney lovers would laugh, ridicule, degrade, demoralize, insult guys like Maroney if he were a Jet,Colt,Dolphin ect:

I don't believe anyone is saying Maroney is Barry Sanders or Earl Campbell.

Just keep putting up those strawmen.

Does this mean that other runningbacks, even past HOF'ers danced, or in your terms "juked" in the backfield maybe wating for a hole??? Say it aint so! Keep in mind Barry Sanders leads all runningbacks, ever, in terms of lost yards.

Just keep putting up those strawmen.

My point is DaBruinz is saying Maroney gets knocked backwards consistently because the OL is getting beat by their man,Well good RBs somehow figure a way around the weak links...Maroney is not that kind of player.

Current RB stars like Frank Gore and Maurice Joes-Drew do not have an all-pro OL in front of him,You can't tell me they do,Great RBs find ways to get yardage and much of the time right through the teeth of the D.

I have a good question about the runningback position for the future.

After this season: Fred Taylor and Morris should both be gone because of age. Maroney should be cut/traded.

Do you think:

1. Belichick will trust BJGE to get a bulk of the carries? (I doubt it)
2. Spend a 1st/2nd round pick on a back.
3. Get one in free agency.

If the Pats finish the season in the top 8, then getting one via free agency will be next to impossible since they will be limited in who they can and can't sign. That would leave the draft. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3rd rounder used on a RB because of the age of Faulk, Morris and Taylor.

I saw Green-Ellis in one of your preseason games and, while I appreciate it's only preseason, that kid looked pretty good. I'm surprised that he hasn't seen the field yet, but I assume this means he'll get time?

In the pre-season, BJGE was running against 2nd and 3rd stringers. Not against 1st stringers. As a point of reference, the RB who got the most yards rushing last pre-season was cut by his team. He re-signed with them this year and I believe he made it, but I am not 100% sure.

Well put. BJGE rides the pine because Belichick wants him to conserve his energy and abilities for the big games.

my god was that funny. LOL

Is Sanders known as one of the greatest RBs to play the game?..yes

Just like Brett Favre has thrown the most picks by a future HOFer doesn't mean he won't be considered one of the greatest ever.

Its not what you do in terms of losing yards or throwing INTs,Its how significant you were as a player in getting your team to win ball games.

Guys like Brett Favre and Barry Sanders have some negative stuff about their resume but that does not stop them from being considered great.

Maroney in 4 years has done little positive to make an impact on this team winning games is what many of us can say.

For once in the BB era before it ends I hope we have a game breaking RB,We would simply be unbelievable to stop.

And yes,Adrian Peterson with this OL would still easily have 1,600 or more yards ala Corey Dillon in 2004,RBs like that make plays happen don't wait for them to happen.
