Re: What's with all the doom and gloom?

Reading all the posts here it looks like the Jets DID win the SuperBowl. We lost agains the Jets - its over. Need to move on. Its not the end of the season. We were humiliated against the Dolphins last year and ended up with an 11-5 record. We lost 31-0 against Buffalo several yrs back in the OPENING game and went on to win the SuperBowl.

The level of "distrust" in Brady actually shocks me. I myself am more of a pessimist but I still have enormous faith in Brady. He won us the first game otherwise we would be 0-2 (both Div losses). If we lost in Bufallo - it would not have been this big a deal - its because its the Jets. Thats understandable but lets just take a deep breath and realize its just 2 games into the season. The year after we won our 1st SBowl we were 3-0 and missed the playoffs. Even with the 2007 team - we almost lost to the Ravens and to the Eagles at home with Feely as their QB (if my memory is correct). With TB at the helm - he had looked quite bad against the Dolphins most years since 2001-2006. Jets were 8-3 last year and missed the playoffs. My point is things can change very quickly. It was a bad loss but the Jets just held serve. Let them be happy. They haven't beaten us in their stadium since 2000 so its understandable.

Lets focus on the Falcons and hope we win and the Jets will be playing a desperate Titans team next week so things might change.

On another note - not sure who to root for tonight. The Dolphins or the Colts?

Right on. Excellent post. There is a very long way to go. Brady and O will get it dialed in. We will score TDs. We will be in at the end.

Agreed. As much as I despise Dolts and Peyton Manning, I would rather see them win just so Fish fans will be miserable and realize last season was a fluke...

The Jets did not win the Superbowl yesterday, but they showed us the

team that is not going to win it if they don't improve a lot.

Re: What's with all the doom and gloom?

I agree. I don't understand why people are so freaked out. Then again it seems like it's either newer posters (i.e. newer fans) or those who have that Red Sox-fan mentality (woe is me!).

We have the same record as the defending Super Bowl champions.

Re: What's with all the doom and gloom?

I think the main cause of overreaction is due to the fact that Brady just does not look comfortable yet and the offensive gameplans in general have seemed pretty weak so far. If they go out and light up Atlanta all faith will be restored but the fact that we have Atlanta and Baltimore the next two Sundays, two teams that look like they will both be among the NFLs best, doesn't sit well with me. If we continue to play like yesterday we could be 1-3 really fast, and although I have the utmost faith in this team recovering, that's a huge hole to put ourselves in early.

As far as the Colts and Dolphins, this is where I normally joke "the terrorists" when asked who I want to win but seriously, the Colts winning is better for us.

I am concerned about what we are seeing out of this team, but I am not panicking yet. I think a lot of the problems will work themselves out, but you can't not be at least a little concerned about how out of sorts this team is. The Pats don't have many gimme games on their schedule based on the level of play the first two weeks. If they don't right this ship fast enough, this season could slip away pretty quickly.

Re: What's with all the doom and gloom?

you guys do have a bit to be concerned about, but nothing that should be causing this much doom and gloom. i think it is obvious you guys have one of the best offensive systems in the league. losing welker didn't seem to affect you guys at all. i forget the guys name but i thought he was welker a few times yesterday.

the defense seems to be missing something though. i know you guys were missing mayo but i didn't see any type of emotion out of those guys on the field. i was expecting sanchez to have guys in his face all day, as i know BB is known for confusing the young qb's. after the jets took the training wheels off for sanchez he looked almost too comfortable in the pocket. i was left wondering where all the crazy schemes that BB always comes up with were.

if i was a pats fan right now my biggest concerns would be the defense and tom brady. he is still a great qb, but he seems to be missing something so far this year. in the past he would stand in against the pressure and deliver strikes. through the first two games it seems like whenever he has pressure in his face he is missing his targets badly.

i'm sure you guys will bounce back and make the division interesting. im sure the game in foxboro later this year will be very intense.

Re: What's with all the doom and gloom?

Pats O played their worse game since they turned into a juggernaut of an offense, while the Jets played the game of their lives...yet the Pats lost by a TD on the road. I'm not too concerned.

Welker catches 75% of his passes. Edelman caught 50%.

Some of that's on Brady, but Edelman != Welker yet.

Re: What's with all the doom and gloom?

I think a lot of the "Doom and Gloom" are people realizing that this team isn't the powerhouse that it was in 07.

Our D is extremely average and the offense hasn't been that spectacular. The Patriots are going to have to fight to win the AFC East and aren't going to have the division handed to them like in the past.

the jets did not play anywhere near a perfect game. our offense had negative 3 passing yards in the first half. this offense has plenty of room to grow, and we still have a pass rush specialist on suspension. i don't think either side of the ball has played their best yet. i'm thinking you guys finally have a legit contender in the division for the first time in years.

The Jets own this division now.

DID you just not watch the game THE O sucked the D could not get big stops and we should have lost last week.

You clearly didn't watch the game. The Pats D was 3/11 on 3rd downs...

Yes, the O stunk. Brady, uncharacteristically, threw screens when the Jets were clearly sitting on them and Brady didn't recognize it.

But the Defense made plenty of stops. The Problem was that the Offense didn't capitalize when they had the chances. Whether it was drops by Moss or Galloway or Edelman or badly thrown balls by Brady. They didn't capitalize.

Also, the referees need to learn what "illegal formation" is. The Pats had 7 men on the line on the quick snap that they got called for. Unfortunately, I believe that is one of the plays that can't be challenged.

But, seriously, if the defense only allows 17 points or less a game, the Pats offense should be winning it for them. They just failed to execute properly.

When they lose to Tennessee next week and Brees and New Orleans torch them, they'll fall back to earth and become the Jets again. Let them enjoy their Super Bowl. We play ours in February.

The Glass Half Full Thread: Week 2

Time to take a sip of my own kool-aid and look at the positive to take from yesterday's game only...

SECONDARY - aside from two to three plays, the secondary once again seemed to be a lot closer to the ball than last season.

D-LINE - I feel much better about the subtraction of Richard Seymour after yesterday. In week 1, stopping the run was not a priority, yesterday it clearly was. When they crowded the line and put more in the box, they stopped the run, plain and simple - and most impressively, this was out of a 4-2 nickel. I'm not sure we even had 3 LBs on the field for more than a few snaps yesterday.

GUYTON - Filled in for Mayo well, no complaints, he was where he needed to be and looked much more comfortable than the preceding week.

Onto the offense...

THE BACKS - I hope we see more of a running game in upcoming weeks, I thought both Maroney and Taylor got the yardage that was available to them, and then some - for the second straight week. The O-Line really has to do better on 3rd and shorts, that is completely unacceptable, and losing the battle on those plays has been very costly in the first two weeks.

THE FIRST HALF - Lost in all the doom and gloom is that the offense moved the ball in the first half, as it did against Buffalo. Sure, it was a real grind, but they were in position, and frankly, could've put that game away in the first half if Brady throws a better pass to Edelman on FG#2 and Edelman hangs onto that screen pass on FG#3. It should've been 17-3 at halftime. That said, I still hope to see more offensive variety in upcoming weeks, and more of an attempt to make the defense guess a little bit. In pre-season, we saw 2 RB sets, TEs in the backfield, we saw the packages change up play-to-play. Yesterday was as straight-forward as it got when it comes to gameplan, and the execution was not there, unfortunately.

Re: The Glass Half Full Thread: Week 2

No injuries

Re: What's with all the doom and gloom?

Modus operandi here at patsfans.com. After every loss there are complaints about the play-calling, the OC, the offensive line, the lack of pass rush, the DC, the inability to stop the opponent on third down, etc...After we win next week the same people will be claiming that the next Lombardi trophy is ours for the taking. It's like this every year.

It could be worse you know .....

I am not going to let yesterday's defeat kill the whole season and for several reasons....

1) This is WEEK 2 - There is still 14 games to go in an AFC which has only a handful of unbeatens ..and this is only week 2,quite a few 1-1 teams INCLUDING the World Champion Steelers who could also have been 0-2 without going into OT last week and winning the coin toss.

2) Very rarily has a team beaten Belichick twice in one season when BB has seen what they have to offer so we can look forward to November when the Jets come to town and try to even things out in the East.

2) Do all of you remember this time LAST YEAR which just happened to be after the second game of the season, after beating the Jets at the meadowlands?,After being 2-0 but still sad?,After losing Brady for the season?

3) Would you rather have Brady on the team and be 1-1 in 2009? or Without Brady and be 2-0 in 2008?

4) Its true that our defense does not look championship caliber but things can change with more experience with the younger guys.

5) Does any of you remember that Brady almost annually healthy or not, has a stinker game or two,Why can't it be this early when he is still recovering from injury?

6) My real main concern is NO pass rush except for Banta Cain, but Maybe when Mayo comes back in or around week 9 we can utilize his talents in that area.

Relax,We play 2 games in a row the next 2 weeks against 2 of the NFLs newest and rising stars at QB - Tighten up yor belt and hang on for the ride which is the roller coaster of an average NFL season,it may be bumpy but don't jump out of your seat just yet. :)

This is not the time for doom. However, gloom is clearly appropriate at this time.
