Which players would trade up to 14 to get?

Jacksonville went from 26th to 8th last year for something like (26TH), two 3rd rounders and a 4th rounder. I don't think the draft value chart is being applied by teams a few years ago so I think moving up from 23rd to 10-14 could be done for a 1st and 3rd and some lower picks depending on how high we wanted to go.

Left tackle....

would not have helped last year

Last year they would not have had to trade up for Clady. This year, some mocks have Oher dropping down far enough so that this would work.

I think the only guy I want to trade up for is Curry and we likely can't do that with what we have....So I hope Cassell can somehow net us what we need to get Curry.

Agreed, thats the one guy in the top tier of the draft that would fit and be worth the price tag.

Of course, I'd prefer to use our picks to get Asomugha if we're going down that road...

That was a ridiculously one sided trade. I even stated it at the time.

I'm sure that we'd all like to get a top 10 quality player at 19. Of course, there are those posting who think that they can get such a player in the 2nd round.

In most drafts, there is a fuzzy line dividing blue chippers and the rest. Some years that line is at 6. sometimes at 12. And in most years, a blue-chipper slips, sometimes all the way to 23.

For planning purposes, I started this thread to list those who we might be interesting once they slip past the 10th pick since 11-22 should be available for a trade up for the right value player.

Some here don't need studs and don't need to pick in the top 15. Some think they can get them at 23, in the 2nd or in the 3rd. Certainly, we waited for Wilfork and Mankins. The issue is whether we have a serious need that can be met by moving up. Obviously, Belkichick is willing to trade when he sees the value, even in the first when he wanted a DE (Warren) or a TE (Graham).

Personally, I think that 23 is not a position where we should expect a stud, except perhaps a guard or a safety. We will get a good player, perhaps even a 2010 starter, and we COULD get lucky.

I would not trade the #23 and and a second to move up to 14; but i would consider a 1st and 3rd to move up to 19 or so is somene is falling... :)

Just so I undertand ------

Two teams made a very one-sided deal and now everyone should expect to take the teams with higher picks to the cleaners?

so what........they didn't have to move up for mayo, and they actually needed him

clady turned out good, but LT is simply not a priority at this time.....they have one that works

There's zero logic in your first line, particularly given the question being asked by the OP, but the second one is a point on which reasonable people can disagree. I personally see a player like Oher as someone who can play RT until light is ready to move on, and I think that Kaczur can be moved to RG when/if Neal retires or gets hurt again, so I consider the position a priority.

same logic as not having to move up to get clady.....I mean who cares.....the guy played well.....has absolutely zero bearing on who might play well in this draft

they can grab someone in the later rounds to groom for LT in the future.....

You were the one who mentioned last year in comparison, not me. All I had posted was "Left tackle".

they didn't need one last year and they don't this year.........

I think they need to look at replacing Neal, at the very minimum and, since I think that Kaczur can be moved to guard, I think getting a top echelon tackle when they have the chance is a brilliant move.

As for what they needed last year.... had the line not been so poor at the start of the season, they might have made the playoffs. Drafting Clady might have been the difference. We'll never know.

I believe that we have three serious needs that can be met with a Top 10 stud. I am discussing using one pick to move up. Depending on how far we need to move, we could need anywhere from a 4th to our top 2nd. My initial thought was to trade our 2nd and move up to 14. We could use our top 2nd and move to about 11, or our 3rd and move to about 19.

Obviously, the question is value and whether a "have to have" player is available at a position we can get to reasonably.
LB - We need at least one more, even if we keep Woods.
OT - We need our 2010 starter. If we move up, we would have our 2009 starter.
Kaczur is OK, but is in his contract year. He could be extended before the draft.
CB - We need another. The open question is whether Belichick likes the top one enough.

NT - I absolutely cannot see us trading for a position where we need a backup. I expect us extend Wilfork. If not, I expect him to be franchised in 2010 and then again in 2011.

S - I don't see any worth trading up for.

MY LIST FOR POTENTIAL TRADE-UPS
Brown
Curry
Maualuga
Monroe
Oher
Smith
Jenkins
Davis

There are a lot of LB's and CB's who will be available at 23. The open question is whether there are any that Belichick has rated much higher than the rest. He may even be expecting to take an OG, S or a TE at 23.

Dues what do you think of the fact that the line improved considerably this year when the man you want to replace Neal returned from the PUP?

Personally I don't think Neal gets enough credit. IMO he is one of the better pulling guards in the league and his hustle is something to be comended. He has had his share of health issues but in the past it was his shoulder last year it was the knee so its not like the same injury has been a constant although the shoulder affected more than one season it seems to be in the past now.

Well, Neal is their most athletic lineman, and their best "pull" lineman for run plays. It's not that I want to replace him, it's that he's going to be 33 this October, and he's played in 13 and 8 games respectively in the past 2 seasons.

I don't see a scenario that would have made a difference by adding clady......none of the 'L' would would become a 'W' with clady on the roster....unless he could have caught the ball that gaffney dropped or stopped the jets on 3rd and 15

Just to clarify -- there are 4 potential 1st-round Smiths at your 3 target positions (Andre, Jason, Alphonso, Sean). Which one(s) would you trade up for?

it would make more sense to go for an OG in round 2 than an OT in round 1 since not only is neal washed up, but kaczur is out the door in a year.......as for replacing kaczur, you can groom a later pick to do that job
