But wait this cant be true the Patriots front office are jerks and imposible to negotiate with.

Nice move by the team to give a player a chance to still get the money, he would of lost due to his injury by not being able to participate in workouts, so long as he makes the team.

I love Edelman's style of play. If he can stay healthy he will be a huge asset to the team.

Fierce competitor too.

Correct. He's never been anything other than a terrific player when he's healthy. And his injuries (broken hand, foot, other bones, etc.) have never been of the suspicious lingering type. If you're frustrated with his injury history, OK, but don't suggest he's not a good player when he's healthy. He is.

But what does it mean? What does it mean????

Edelman has a rockstar attitude. He's a fighter when he's on the field.

Florio will be all over that one. Sure...

And unlike some other players available in that draft (*cough* Pat White *cough*), Edelman understood that QB was not in his future, and worked his tail off to learn other positions.

He's been a terrific punt returner, one of the best, but he's been substandard at everything else. Not to say I don't want him on the team, I do, but to make him out to be something he isn't is foolish.

He showed flashes at WR last year, nothing consistent.

Yes he is, I've watched some plays of his dating back to 09 all the way up to now and he can be a very good slot receiver. Does a good job of getting open underneath, and looked more and more consistent each year the more playing time he got. Heck, when Wes Welker went down that one year, he came in and did an excellent job. More shiftier and elusive than Wes, nice player on smoke screens, reverses and inside slants on the Goal-line. I remember him beating Antonio Cromartie deep vs the Jets last year too, if he can stay healthy then him and Danny Amendola can be absolutely lethal. They have already developed a bromance lol from what I've heard and have been working out with Tom. If he can beat his injuries than we have a legitimate weapon and one of the best in pro-football.

I disagree. Substandard would indicate failure to meet the standard or ordinary level. When healthy, he has been at least average as a receiver and his special teams play, particularly tackling, has been far better than average. I understand you may be disappointed with his performance in areas other than punt returning and I'm not trying to be picky, but "substandard" is unfair, in my opinion.

The guy needs to drink some more Milk to toughen his bones up, then he will be fine!

It's a shame he can never get a healthy run, that period around Thanksgiving he was immense.

NEPettyOfficer, you've actually said something a lot of people would kvetch about -- shiftier/more elusive than Welker

I might actually agree with you... let's put it this way: both of them really, really, really make guys miss. He's got great potential as a slot receiver if you ask me, and Amendola has potential to be a good downfield receiver. We have a bad habit of comparing to guys who hold records (cough cough "good" Randy, c. 2007,) but Amendola's an up-and-coming legit #1. Let's just say a lot more of a threat than David Givens or Reche Caldwell, maybe never as much as Randy Moss at his peak.

But it's not a strong receiving corps all the way down, and of course, that worries me. Tom will still be Tom, and the TE situation in recent years has always helped a lot (as has the reinvigorated running game.) Jenkins is a nice little "extra" piece, and the team probably likes that he can make the "important" catch, the one with the season on the line... but he's another brick in the wall. After him, Amendola, and Edelman, the corps is unproven.

My guess is that it will be "good but limited." The good part is that we're not a wideout only team. The D taking another step up would be sweet. But I don't see this as a Tom-Brady's-Flying-Circus team - the talent's too spotty for that, especially on the outside. More of a matriculate-the-ball-down-the-field team I think (by Pats standards.)
