NEPettyOfficer, you've actually said something a lot of people would kvetch about -- shiftier/more elusive than Welker
I might actually agree with you... let's put it this way: both of them really, really, really make guys miss. He's got great potential as a slot receiver if you ask me, and Amendola has potential to be a good downfield receiver. We have a bad habit of comparing to guys who hold records (cough cough "good" Randy, c. 2007,) but Amendola's an up-and-coming legit #1. Let's just say a lot more of a threat than David Givens or Reche Caldwell, maybe never as much as Randy Moss at his peak.
But it's not a strong receiving corps all the way down, and of course, that worries me. Tom will still be Tom, and the TE situation in recent years has always helped a lot (as has the reinvigorated running game.) Jenkins is a nice little "extra" piece, and the team probably likes that he can make the "important" catch, the one with the season on the line... but he's another brick in the wall. After him, Amendola, and Edelman, the corps is unproven.
My guess is that it will be "good but limited." The good part is that we're not a wideout only team. The D taking another step up would be sweet. But I don't see this as a Tom-Brady's-Flying-Circus team - the talent's too spotty for that, especially on the outside. More of a matriculate-the-ball-down-the-field team I think (by Pats standards.)
