Yahoo's Michael Silver says Brady expected to miss rest of season

This article has made me come to grips with what is a possibility: the Pats lose Brady for the year with a knee injury.

I'm not saying that Yahoo is a reliable source because I have seen some horrible articles by Yahoo. Nonetheless, I'm not holding onto the hope that Brady can come back and I want to move to the area of "what next".

First of all, this is why Cassell wasn't cut. Cassell has more experience in the system and give Daniels more to work with in the playbook. Getting Kevin Connell in there may only get a better arm in there and that is it.

Second, Seymour's play today makes me think that the defense can play at a high level. If Cassell can manage the game with the running game and receiving threats opening up things for the offense, the team may continue to be competitive a la Baltimore Ravens. I'm not throwing away the season if Brady isn't playing another game all season long.

Third, Cassell didn't play bad and if healthy, there is no reason to expect less than Brady on a bum knee and a curious circumstance about his foot (is it hurt or not).

Pity Party Dept.:

I feel bad for Randy Moss and Wes Welker, who I am sure expected to follow up last season with decent numbers. Without Brady, I can imagine they don't feel so hot.

I feel bad for Patriot fans for being back in 2001 mindset. Bledsoe went down and Brady came in early in the season and the defense helped carry the load to the Super Bowl. I was there and I know the back-and-forth on the future of the Pats. It was stupid to speculate they could/couldn't win then and it is stupid to do that now.

Positive Side:

The Pats are dead in the water. Bill has three good running backs to move ball in Maroney, Morris and Jordan. Next week Kevin Faulk will be back. Randy Moss and Welker gives them great receiving threats. We have already seen Cassell connect with Moss for a deep pass and a 10 yrd TD. And the o-line is experienced and well coached.

Defense is looking good, not great. I think the rookies will reflect the future success in 08 and if Mayo/Wheatley/Wilhite/Crable can contribute and learn on the fly, than things will be positive.

This would suck bad, i hope it's not true..

More and more reports are filtering in with this bad news (or so it seems). I hope they are all wrong

Exactly, imagine adding a James Laurnaitis to play next to Mayo

Then bring back a fully-healed TB with O'Connell fully developed with a battle tested season under his belt.........

I'm not putting anything past BB, I know the team is good enough to possibly grab a wildcard and finish 9-7, despite Cassell, but I just don't see it happening, as Briz said Cassell should have had 2 balls picked off today and the only put up 17 on piss-poor defense, we will be facing alot better than this the rest of the way.

Fair enough but let's also remember that Cassel did not get starter reps at practice this week. With only a small percent of the reps at practice (30%?) he marched the team down field a few times and managed the game pretty well.

What the Cassell people need to realize is HE HAS NO ARM ... his arm sucks. He is intelligent enough to be a backup and that is all. With Cassell as QB it's like we're also losing the deep threat of Randy Moss. Teams will pack it in on us ... end of story.

2001 pats had a QB without a strong arm and no Randy Moss. They also had a RB worse than Maroney/Morris/Jordan. As a matter of fact the 2008 patriots without Brady are STILL better than the 2001 patriots with Brady. So it's not about being in Cassel's side or not. It's understanding that it always has been and always will be a TEAM game. We still have the greatest coaching in the NFL.

I'm going to wait for the MRI, but I nearly vomited when Brady held his knee. I'm hoping he'll be alright.... there was that time he got hit by Lee Flowers in the AFC championship game and was back the next week to lead them to the Super Bowl title. That would be best case scenario. But right now, I'm not feeling good about this. I'll be praying nonetheless.

You know what made my throat get tight? During Moss's press conference you could tell he was worried. He even talked about how he was with Gaffney and every time the crowd made noise he turned to look and see if Tom was coming back.

January is 4 months away.

I would at least consider keeping Brady on the roster until then.

People recovering from ACL tears take a year to get back, but that's people who need to cut.

Often, people are running after a few months.

For example, UConn's AJ Price tore his ACL in April. He was running around 2 months later. By August, he was cutting on it.

If Brady has surgery tomorrow, he CAN make it back for the playoffs.

Again, he's a QB, not an RB. A RB needs a year. A QB doesn't.

Odds are Brady is truly gone for the season. Such is football. Matt Cassel will get progressively better with each start. This is a good team with some new key players who should also get better with each start. I expect the Patriots to win the AFC east and be a serious playoff contender. Let's go people, let's not jump overboard. GAME ON!

Philip Rivers played with 2 torn ligaments in the AFCCG, so it's not out of the realm of possiblity that TB could come back late in the season.

AJ Price had ACL surgery 5 months ago and still hasnt been cleared for full contact.

even if Brady could be back for say the SB, it's a gigantic longshot that the team could get there without him. this sucks

What the Cassell people need to realize is HE HAS NO ARM ... his arm sucks. He is intelligent enough to be a backup and that is all. With Cassell as QB it's like we're also losing the deep threat of Randy Moss. Teams will pack it in on us ... end of story.
He doesn't have an arm? So how do you explain that 51 yard completion to Moss today?

Please, if you're going to jump off the bandwagon, by all means do so. I'm not giving up on the Pats. Right now, we're 1-0.
