out of curiosity, how much does he get paid for not even being active for a single game.

You mean, how much does his lawyer get paid for defending him against the frivolous strip club rumble law suit as the one guy to get sued out of 30 guys escorted out by two bouncers?

The Patriots should have a 50-50 raffle at Gillette every week where 50% goes to pay the lawyers for players on the roster, and 50% goes to pay a private investigator like Magnum, P.I. or Charlie's Angels, or the Mentalist or somebody to look into the douche-baggery of players they are thinking about signing.

As much as I too would like to hope this was Vereen related, my guess is they just want to dump Williams ASAP - especially before the MNF broadcast should anyone realize they didn't do their homework on him.

And if they assert they did do their homework, that's even worse.

If I had to guess Amendola and Edelman were likely limited in the # of reps they saw during the bye week practices so Williams was probably nothing more than a warm body to take some of those reps during practices. When the practice period was done they cut him loose. I find it very hard to believe that his being cut had anything to do with his off the field situation.

The question isn't why he was cut.

It's a question of why he was signed

... especially given his off field actions.

The team either knew about it and didn't care or didn't know about it because they didn't do due diligence - either way it's a red flag

How were they suppose to know that this incident happened when charges were never filed? The lawsuit was filed on Nov 1st in DC against him, he was signed Nov 5th. So were the Pats suppose to contact Maryland and DC courts and ask them if anything was pending?

Also what some people missed is the same people suing him are also suing the District of Columbia and a police officer.

So clearly police were dispatched to the incident and didn't see any reason to arrest anyone but yet somehow one of the plaintiffs got hit by a cop.

Well if you’re looking for a player to help at practice why not grab the guy who was on the last super bowl champions roster?

Don’t get me wrong the kid was an idiot but he was being sued in civil court he is not facing any criminal charges he was the delinquent thug you’re envisioning, he has a foundation and regularly works with young kids.

Still fighting for spot, Ravens WR LaQuan Williams now mentors younger players - Baltimore Sun

You said it yourself. The charges were filed November 1 and they signed him November 5th.

So "how are they supposed to find out" if a potential player has any outstanding legal issues?

They can just do a Lexus Nexus search or contract with one of numerous background check companies. It's not complicated.

Now, if they don't want to bother with such things, that's fine - but we were lead to believe that post-Hernandez a background check would be S.O.P. - either it is and they didn't care, or it's not, because they don't care for these bit role players.

That story was several months before the assault charge.

I'm not sure what the laws are like in Baltimore, but up here they don't typically assign kids to be mentored by people with pending assault charges. I have a feeling that non-profit may be effectively defunct by now.
