2 years ago, we were saying who are we going to cut, now who is going to catch the ball I think we need antoher WR, losing both Washington and Gaffney does not serve the team well right now.

Washington was a non-factor at WR. Losing him only lost a WR in name for the most part. His loss will be more with special teams.

Gaffney was a a good asset for the team, but he was on his third team in two years when he came to the Patriots. I put him in the David Patten category of a journeyman receiver who fit the system well. He won't be impossible to replace.

Joey Galloway maybe? Not exactly a deep threat but could be decent as an intermediate route guy?

I'm not worried about the offense, it's the defense that bothers me, there's holes at every position except the dline. Majority of the holes need to be addressed through free agency. Too many to just rely on in the draft.

I'm on the Ashley Lelie bandwagon...

I hear Lelie's own mother is no longer on the Aslie Lelie bandwagon anymore. She think he sucks.

I know Washington was not a factor in the passing game, but right now our number 3 reciver is Sam Aiken...

WR was a need before Gaffer's signing, time to take a flyer on a top WR in the draft and see if O'Shea can develop Moss' heir.

Nothing a good coach couldn't resurect and a decent QB. Have faith he would be cheap, high reward.

If the Pats can find a way to add Gonzalez they won't need a 3rd wideout. They could run with two TE's and two WR's all game and terrorize opposing defenses.

I wouldn't mind dealing the Vrabel compensation for one Mr. Big Game.

Not for nothing, but Kevin Faulk was 3rd in receptions on the team last year, with 20 more catches than Gaffney. With the way the Pats use Faulk in their spread sets, he is a bigger part of the passing game than Gaffney.

Granted, I'm not trying to sell Gaffney short. He was a valuable role player and a guy who made some big catches for them in the last couple years. I wish him well, and I'm glad he got some security in his new contract.

So, is there a need? No doubt. However, there are far bigger needs. Gaffney had 38 catches for 468 yards and 2 TDs. I think they can find someone to fill that production.

If we trade Cassel to Detroit for their #20......Harvin anyone? He's a little guy like Welker but I like him. We could adress our D with the #23 pick as well as in the 2nd round.

Not to mention that Taylor is also an excellent receiver.

It's not that we need someone to match Gaffney's production, we need a split end. Can't really do much in the NFL with only a y and a z.

Any of the Combine kids do anything for you?

Aiken seemed like an adequate #4, so at least that helps on the numbers side.

They picked Gaffney up off the street after he was cut by Philly, remember?

They will find someone to fill his role. It is the first day of FA and the draft hasn't been held yet. Sometime between now and September I'm sure they will get another WR.

Ultimately, Gaffney got more money. Hard to fault him for that. However, it is hard to fault the Pats for letting him go, either, as they need to spend the resources elsewhere.

However, they will get a guy. It will be someone like D.J. Hackett, who was just cut by Carolina, who is brought in like Gaffney was and will do a good job replacing what he brought at a cheaper price. I don't see it as a big concern.

Gaffney, Caldwell and others were receivers nobody else was interested in signing.

I'm confident ther's another jag that will fit into the offensive scheme; WR is not a need of focus, in my opinion.

Aiken was higher than Washington on the depth chart anyway. So the Pats need to replace Gaffney at number 3, not Moss at #1. Replacing your #3 WR is not a daunting task.
