I think I've finally figured it out. When Bill Belichick was growing up in the 1950s and 1960s one of the biggest musicals on Broadway was My Fair Lady, later made into a movie. Either consciously or subconsciously, BB has identified with Prof. Henry Higgins, who attempted to transform a poor ****ney flower girl into a woman he could pass off as a high society lady at a royal ball. Fast forward forty years, Bill is Prof. Higgins, Matt Cassell, eight year understudy, is Eliza Doolittle. Goal: to pass Cassell off as an NFL starting quarterback. In My Fair Lady, Higgins won his bet; the jury is still out on whether Prof. Belichick can succeed. Word of caution: one other Hollywood movie featured a highly educated man who played God - Frankenstein.
