Are you really certain Demario Douglas won't be as good or better than Charlie Jones? Let us know how you know, Kreskin.
For Starters Charlie Jones went in the Fourth  I mean for a Team who does well with the name *Jones* you would think.

He was doing it well against his peers in one of those Bowls.
Weaknesses
  • Lacking suddenness to shake press.
  • Has trouble blowing by tight man coverage downfield.
  • Adjusts stride level, alerting coverage of impending break.
  • Has trouble uncovering consistently on all levels.
  • High percentage of tries are contested.
  • Catch radius is very modest

SCOUTING REPORT: WEAKNESSES

  • Very undersized prospect - who'll likely be viewed as a slot-only player
  • Has decent short area quickness although it's not elite and this limits his ability to shake off quality man corners
  • Despite playing four years at multiple schools has had only a single year where he was dominant - limited experience
  • Despite having good timed speed Jones probably won't be viewed as the kind of player to threaten to take the top of the defense.
  • Jones lacks the twitch to create consistent separation, and despite his size and ability to track the ball downfield, he isn’t always great on contested catches.
This guy is NOT JE.

So, we're going by round here? I'd venture to say that if you compare WRs taken in the 4th in recent years, they're no better than those taken in the 5th or 6th.

Look at Gabriel Davis in 2020, he's the top WR from the 4th round. Darnell Mooney in the 5th round has 2x the production of Davis. Donovan Peoples-Jones in the 6th is the same as Davis.

In 2019, Hunter Renfrow and Darius Slayton outperformed ALL the 4th round WRs by miles.

Same thing with Marques Valdes-Scantling and Russell Gage in 2018.

I don't think this means we should take WRs in the later rounds. I just think it means that with the middle round WRs, it's flip a coin. We don't know which is best.
