Ask this again at the end of the 2014 season.

Ask me if my poor little heart is mended in 2014.

Honestly, hard to tell how this current receiving corps gels. If they're dong well then no.

Nope, nope, nope! He made his choices and we should go our own ways.

Deion heavily contributed to two super bowl wins, though. How many has Welker? I'll give you a minute.

If only this wasn't a terrible way to measure a player's worth

I don't even know if I want Brady back in 2015 at this point. Guessing whether a WR in his early to mid 30s will be nearly as good two years from now as he is now is a crap shoot.

Let's be clear: the Patriots made the choice, not Welker. Any bridges burnt were with Kraft emptying the oil canister and Belichick lighting the match.

I believe Welker chose to go to Denver.

Pretty sure the main goal of every NFL football team is to win the Super Bowl. I don't care about stats. Not sayin Welker sucks, but he had a chance to win a Super Bowl and ended up not makin the catch. Branch was clutch back in 03 and 04, so of course the Patriots would take him back.

Yes, BUT......

as always $$$ dependent. It would depend at what price he is asking (thinking he is worth this time around).

Honestly though; I don't believe they would have a spot for him. It would be hard to put WW outside (more than sporadically) - his skills play best in the slot. So those outside spots are gone w/ Dobson-Thompkins and ?? (boyce, sanders, or the new guy -Ocho protege [LOL]).

If his cutting ability/straight-line speed potentially disappearing with age; between Edeldude and Amendola who are both younger ....JE and DA are likely better inside options at that point in time.....

but you never know. the wiley vet wrs can have a place too - just look at Reggie Wayne. So dont close the door; but WAY TOO EARLY to even think about.
Hell we dont even know if Denver can afford to keep him NEXT YEAR based on how close they are to the cap.

I'm forwarding this to Gisele.
Prepare for a ****storm!

Why would I want a washed up welker to a young, in his prime amendola?? And Edelman also. Welker is gone and never coming back IMO.

I believe Welker chose to go to Denver.

Then you believe wrong. Both sides (as in Welker AND Kraft) have said that Welker came back to the Patriots and gave them a chance to match the Broncos offer.

Would rather have Danny Woodhead back. Who says you can't carry, Ridley-Vereen-Woodhead?

You're telling me you can't have a package for Gronk-Dobson-Amendola-Vereen-Woodhead?

I completely agree I would rather have Woodhead than any of the free agents we lost, look at what he has done for Phillip Rivers. Woodhead has more total yards with 584 than any Patriots player.

For those who are curious why Rivers leads the NFL with a 72% completion percentage and Brady is 28th with a 58% completion percentage you could probably look at Woodhead being targeted 57 times for 49 receptions which is a 86% catch rate. Woodhead currently projects for 98 receptions, 1168 total yards, and 8 touchdowns.

Well, to no one's surprise, Welker is still a beast at 32 years old. He's on pace for 100 receptions 1,110 yards and 18 TDs.

After Wes completes his two years in Denver at 6 million a year, he'll be a free agent at age 34. I doubt he would get many looks at that age, considering he barely got any at 32.

So, would you take back a 34 year old Wes as a WR3/WR4 on the cheap, or is the bridge burned like Seymour?

Too little too late at that point, if we still need Welker in 2 years we really screwed up. If we drafted the right players and signed the right replacement than the only year we need Welker was this year.

I loved Welker and everything he did being a first down machine. But we are talking about 2015 here. Don't you think that as a pseudo GM, looking ahead two years on a 32 yo player you might want some caution on this?

Why can't we appreciate and be satisfied with what we seen from Danny Amendola this past Sunday and the fact that when he is healthy, that's what he brings. Threads like these make me scratch my head sometimes. I'm glad coaches run teams as oppose to fans and understand the aspect of moving forward from a great player and that sometimes, that's the best thing for a franchise. No offense, but some fans just don't understand that aspect. I mean, was is it that Wes Welker brings to the table that Danny Amendola can't do, and better? Let me give you the answer... nothing. Who was Wes before he came to New England? Nobody. Who was Danny before he came to New England? somebody, and mind you this is with Sam Bradford throwing him the ball. So if you know that Tom elevated and enhanced the game of Wes as did the offense then what do you think Danny Amendola can do, coming into the system already an outstanding receiver and proven as oppose to an unknown coming from Miami back in 2007. I don't understand what part of upgrade don't other people understand ...

Welker gets open faster, and more consistently, than Amendola. You may consider that to be nothing. I doubt those who play and coach the game agree.

And Amendola was nothing before coming to NE, other than a potential "Next Wes Welker". You know why he'd be the "Next Wes Welker"?

That would be because the "First Wes Welker" was the one blazing the trail at the position.

I said WR3/WR4 on the cheap.

Welker is a potential HOF player. It would be cool if he could come back on good terms and retire a Patriot, while helping the WR core in a depth role.

Teams around the league undervalued a 32 year old Welker. IMO Wes will still be a good player at 34 and could be had for 2-3 million at that point.

This Wax Wikler obsession is getting annoying, just like those pining for the return of Randy Moss. Those trains have left the station, folks, never to return.
