Then you believe wrong. Both sides (as in Welker AND Kraft) have said that Welker came back to the Patriots and gave them a chance to match the Broncos offer.

improve offer. they made an offer. He chose Denver.

Even a pedant like you can see it was his choice. ( see bit in bold). NE deal had more guaranteed money too.
Good luck with arguing the contrary. I know you won't disappoint.

Welker gets open faster, and more consistently, than Amendola. You may consider that to be nothing. I doubt those who play and coach the game agree.

And Amendola was nothing before coming to NE, other than a potential "Next Wes Welker". You know why he'd be the "Next Wes Welker"?

That would be because the "First Wes Welker" was the one blazing the trail at the position.
Welker is a 3rd/4th option on a team stacked with receivers. He gets open faster and more consistently because he's being covered by scrubs.

In 2 years barring any major injuries, people will be talking about Amendola like the 2nd coming of Jesus.

How many dozens of times does this need to be rehashed? Welker was asleep at the wheel throughout the whole process while his agent dropped the ball, BIG TIME. His agent declined a very lucrative Patriots offer a year before free agency. His agent opted to test the market in a quest that blew up in his face. His agent initiated talks with Denver while the Patriots understandably turned attentions elsewhere (Amendola). His agent got Welker a deal that ultimately secured less guaranteed money than what the Pats offered at the start of free agency. That's it. End of story.

I loved Welker and everything he did being a first down machine. But we are talking about 2015 here. Don't you think that as a pseudo GM, looking ahead two years on a 32 yo player you might want some caution on this?

We actually aren’t talking about the same thing, my post was about Danny Woodhead not Wes Welker.

“When we received the Denver Broncos’ offer, Wes personal discussion with Mr. Kraft to give the Patriots a chance to match it,” the statement says. “The Patriots declined this opportunity, and Wes signed with the Denver Broncos.

Welker rep denies Kraft?s claims | Sports News & Updates

“Wednesday [note: March 13th, the day Welker signed with the Broncos], I personally got a call from Wes and he told me about this offer from Denver. He called Bill as well. We met and we chatted. We have a lot of people, we’ve committed a lot of money to this inside position – you have [Rob Gronkowski], you have [Aaron] Hernandez, you have Danny [Amendola] now – it was just unfortunately a little bit too late.

“If [Welker] had called one day earlier, he would have been with us.

Kraft: We Offered Welker More Money - BroncoTalk

Looks like you'd better take it up with Kraft, since he disagrees with you.

Welker is a 3rd/4th option on a team stacked with receivers. He gets open faster and more consistently because he's being covered by scrubs.

Welker leads his team in both receptions and targets (50/71), as well as leading the team in touchdowns (9). Furthermore, he got open faster and more consistently than Amendola before this season, as well.

Why can't we appreciate and be satisfied with what we seen from Danny Amendola this past Sunday and the fact that when he is healthy, that's what he brings. Threads like these make me scratch my head sometimes. I'm glad coaches run teams as oppose to fans and understand the aspect of moving forward from a great player and that sometimes, that's the best thing for a franchise. No offense, but some fans just don't understand that aspect. I mean, was is it that Wes Welker brings to the table that Danny Amendola can't do, and better? Let me give you the answer... nothing. Who was Wes before he came to New England? Nobody. Who was Danny before he came to New England? somebody, and mind you this is with Sam Bradford throwing him the ball. So if you know that Tom elevated and enhanced the game of Wes as did the offense then what do you think Danny Amendola can do, coming into the system already an outstanding receiver and proven as oppose to an unknown coming from Miami back in 2007. I don't understand what part of upgrade don't other people understand ...

Your conjecture of Amendola is debatable in my opinion; do you really think Amendola did anything in the Pittsburg game? He ran untouched and uncovered and caught the football without a defender within 20 yards of him. His performance in my opinion was an example of the causation vs. correlation falsely, Danny was not the cause of that performance his performances correlated with missed coverage by the Steelers due to an overwhelming focus on Rob Gronkowski.

Why would anyone just be happy with a guy with 27 less reception, 259 less receiving yards and 8 less receiving touchdowns than the player he replaced? Basically you’re asking why we can’t be happy with half of what we had. Could you be happy with half your house, half your dinner, watching half of the Patriots game next week?

Welker leads the team in targets and receptions, that’s not indicative of a 3rd or 4th option.

I don’t want him back in 2 years because he’ll be 34, but I will gladly take him back right now!

The 9 touchdowns this season sums it up – Amendola has 8 career touchdowns.

Put Welker on the Rams and lets see what he does. I'll give you a hint. Nothing.

Don’t think that is true at all, Welker was more productive in his first 2 seasons in Miami catching balls from quarterbacks like Gus Frerotte and Joey Harrington than Amendola was in his first 2 season on the Rams. Sam Bradford is not that bad of quarterback, his issue is remaining on the football field but he was the 2010 first overall pick and has shown promise when he has been on the football field.

Sam Bradford Stats - St. Louis Rams - ESPN

At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter because Amendola has been here for 9 weeks and even after a good showing on Sunday he projects to play in 12 games and have 55 receptions for 710 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. No matter how you try and spin it Amendola is not the player that Welker, he catches about 10% less of his targeted passes and does ¼ of what Welker does in terms of yards after the catch. Amendola is not a bad player but he is not Wes Welker not even close, he is a little better than Edelman in my opinion.

in 2015? Likely not.

It's just really unfortunate that he isn't here now though. In my opinion, the window for a long term deal was before the application of the franchise tag. All down hill from there. Despite the conjecture from both sides, it sounds like Welker's relationship with BB was deteriorating in recent times. Is part of it a feeling of being underappreciated? I certainly thing so. Too bad they didn't get it done.

He will be a different player by the time 2015 rolls around. Right now? there is no one like him in the slot.

Except that he wasn't. Guy spent a season warming the bench while Amendola was playing because he's obviously a more talented player that just happens to be injury prone so people assume he's worse. Welker and Amendola are both slot receivers that can't do anything of significance without leeching catches off of dominant targets on their team.

Re: Re: Would you take Welker back in 2015?

I said WR3/WR4 on the cheap.

Welker is a potential HOF player. It would be cool if he could come back on good terms and retire a Patriot, while helping the WR core in a depth role.

Teams around the league undervalued a 32 year old Welker. IMO Wes will still be a good player at 34 and could be had for 2-3 million at that point.

Unfortunately I don't think that end of life NFL veteran is working anymore.

Adrian Wilson
Tommy Kelly
Chad Johnson
Shaun Ellis
Michael Jenkins
Will Allen
Jabar Gaffney

Those types or pickups used to be key for us but in prior years but the last 2-3 those players haven't been working.

Since Moss left who has Welker leeched catches off? I don't assume he is worse because he is injury prone I assume he is worse because his play when on the field reflects that.

This guy named Gronk. Amendola will have plenty of catches and yards once everything is in full force. You already saw it against Pittsburgh. 2 wide open catches and 1 nice catch. That basically sums up Welkers entire career in NE.

Gronkowski was a rookie in 2010 and he missed a significant portion of last season and Welker was great both years. Gronkowski has been back for 3 games Amendola has had 1 good game statistically in reality it was misleading he caught to big passes in which the steelers completely blew coverage.

Amendola isn't a bad player but he is not Welker or at least he isn't that good currently.

Welkers 2010 season was comparable to his years at Miami. Last year there was a clear drop off in his play after Gronk was done.

Amendola has had as many good games as the offense has which is 2. Unlike Welker, Amendola has the ability to beat great cornerbacks deep on occasion.

A faster, more explosive, more efficient and acrobatic player with better hands that can do all things Welker does but just hasn't had the luxury of padding his stats with the GOAT qb and leeching catches off 2 of the most dominant targets in the last 40 years, never mind the serial killer.

uh....NO....

Ok, you're trolling. Got it.
