So you think we should resign Deion Branch in 2015?

Not to be an ass, (I really like your posts) but reading is fundamental. Va_Pats_Fan brought up Branch when he was still active and went to the Seahawks. We took him back, when, again, he was still active and younger than right now. I love Branch and all, but we don't want him now, and we don't want him when he's 36. He's not the same as he used to be.

Cruz is better.

I don’t understand how anyone compares Victor Cruz to Wes Welker ever. Cruz plays the Y receiver not the Z. The best way to highlight how different they are in terms of things they do and where they catch the ball – Victor Cruz has caught 4 passes in his entire career behind the line of scrimmage, in just 2013 along Wes Welker has caught 12 ball behind the line of scrimmage.

On top of Welker makes a reception 71% of the time he is targeted compared to Cruz who makes a reception 61% of the time. They are not similar players in any way shape or form in my opinion, nor do they have similar roles.

72% say no...why are you continuing to belabor this issue?...Mrs. Welker?

You don't see how you can compare one slot receiver to another slot receiver? That's kind of strange. It's a pretty easy comparison if you ask me.

Oh I know bro. I guess I was being an ass. The thing is we brought Branch back to town when he was 31 years old, the question being posed by the OP is would we resign a 34 year old Wes Welker. Last season a 33 year old Branch was a shell of his former self and this season a 34 year old Branch is out of the NFL, so yeah it made sense to bring Branch back for a late round draft pick in 2010 but it probably won’t make sense to bring back a 34 year old Welker in 2015.

No offense taken I was just screwing around :thumb:

Cruz lines up in the slot much less often and even when he does he runs a much different type of route, they’re not similar players in my opinion. If you want to show me otherwise I will certainly look at what you post objectively but calling him a slot receiver in the media doesn’t make him similar to Wes Welker or Danny Amendola in my opinion.

Oh, okay. I understand. Still, though, at least Branch helped with two Super Bowls victories and was the MVP in 04. So he'd get a second chance before Welker (if they were the same exact age.).

Honestly, though, I think a lot of us are bitter and upset because of who Welker is with right now (Peyton). If he went to the Jags or Bucs, there might've been lesser emotions. We'd still be mad, but him bein on a losin team and lackin an elite QB would've eased the pain.

And, as it stands right now, if Welker (god forbid) leads Peyton to a 2nd ring, we'd (not sure about the actual team) never want him back. Too much pride.

He still lines up 70% of the time in the slot so it's pretty clear he's a slot receiver. Its like saying RG3 isn't a qb because he doesn't pass as much as Brady.

I am with you man! If you think about it at the end of the day no other quarterback is more associated to Tom Brady than Peyton Manning. What sucks is people are so fair weathered and shortsighted that when players retired they only remember the last 2-3 years they played football so if Manning continues to play with studs and Brady continues to go through this rebuilding period people are going to misperceive what they were as players in terms of performance and body of work. You would think Welker being Brady’s BFF would have some level of loyalty to Brady even if it wasn’t enough to play here still at least he could have went to a QB even a good one like Aaron Rodgers who’s legacy isn’t so entwined with Brady’s.

It is what it is and although I dislike that move on Welker’s part I have to be fair and disassociate that decision from his on field performance.

I see them as very different players with much different roles in terms of route running, etc. If you want to bulk them together that is fine I just personally see it differently.

If we are going to win another title we are going to need to do it without welker.

Brady focused on welker way to much and while his Stats were impressive, it was easy for a good defense to disrupt, and brady could never get a good rapport with other WR's because of it.

we need the old brady, the favorite receiver is the open receiver brady

And I think when amendola is his healthiest, vereen and with Dobson emerging, we might see the old Tom. Because he will have rapport with all of them and then gronk. When the offense hits full sync and healthy, it could be very hard to stop.

They're similar enough to be comparable

Welker was the open receiver many times so he throw it there. It's not like he forced it to him.

If they didn't want him this year...why would they want a old slot WR?

I agree they likely won't want him at age 34; however they may have wanted him this season had they known that Hernandez would be incarsarated potentially for life.

I think they intended to feature the slot receiver less in the offense, and use Hernandez and Gronkowski as the primary targets. It could have been easier in their minds to teach a new dog (Amendola) tricks than to teach the old dog (Welker) new tricks.

he did force it to him, and the amount of targets that he gave welker prevented brady from getting any sort of rapport with new younger recievers. that set the team back a bit.

Or maybe those young receivers were just awful. Every thought of that? He seemed fine with throwing the ball to Gronk and Hern, who most of the time were his first 2 choices anyway. Welker was the safety blanket and he happened to get open often because much more talented and better players were getting all the attention.
