Ryan Wendell will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. Last season Wendell played very well and I think most including myself would have advocated to resign him if asked earlier this season however Wendell has had some difficulties this season so that could cause some to reconsider offering him a contract extension.

The good news is Wendell having a down year over last season also brings his value down to a level where he could probably be retained on a team friendly contract with limited guaranteed money. Personally I would resign Wendell at a fair price, would you?!?

Ryan Wendell Contracts, Salaries, Cap Hits, & Transactions

I'd give him what he deserves, which is back-up money, then either sign or draft an actual starting caliber center.

No........

$2M a year offer, take it or leave it.

He's a low-end starter or good fill-in at a relatively easily replaceable position. I'd offer him the contract a spot starter interior lineman would command and not shed a tear if he chooses to go elsewhere, as it's likely some team will pay him as a higher-end center.

As with all personnel decisions, it depends on the circumstances. At what price? What are the other options available?

Preferably I would bring in a new center through either the draft or free agency to upgrade the OL. Hopefully Cannon continues to progress and becomes the starting RG, and Vollmer returns fully healthy at RT. Then Connolly or Wendell could become the primary backup (i.e., game day active) at C/G at backup money.

If he's willing to backup Alex Mack for vet minimum then sure.

Mack is the biggest target for FA after Talib IMO.

Last season he played great football for us, those 16 regular season games make up 64% of the games he has started for us at center. Your assessment seems to reflect the other 36%.

I don't see Belichick paying big money to an interior offensive lineman.

You mean like Logan Mankins?

Mack isn't going to cost a massive amount, is there any Center for that matter making big money? Mangold got 7/55 and he's the highest paid and the best.

http://www.spotrac.com/rankings/nfl/cap-hit/center/ outside of Mangold the rest are on reasonable money based on that.

I don't think he's horrible. But like many have said already, it would have to be for the right money.

I'd say low end starter money at most to high end reserve money at least.

I have a feeling someone is going to overpay him and that he's gone.

Mankins was resigned by the team, and if you recall that process was not exactly cut and dry.

He's just not all that good at center. Many of his shotgun snaps are low, and are part of Brady's problems this year. He also is undersized and often dominated by much bigger defensive tackles. He's better at guard where all he has to do is block.

Both Connally and Wendell were meant to be back-ups, and are starting for lack of anyone better.

And - though it's not like they're short on cap space right now - it was probably a mistake. Mankins is overpaid for the average player he's been the last few years.

In a word No!

The most recent 36% is the most important 36%.

Deion Branch had blinding speed the first 80% of his career.

You're vastly overrating Wendell's play in 2012.
