Would You Have Bill Back If:

Oh no .. they do most certainly have the correct amount of players, it’s the quality of the players and the coaching that’s a little lacking …
No players means lousy players, which is what BB gave us with his drafts. It's astounding that anyone wants that guy to return after seeing what he's done here the last 4 years. It's almost like he sabotaged the offense on purpose.

Coaching is way overrated and Bill is exhibit A.

Fortunately my worst days preceded my arrival on the internet scene. There were a few moments, mostly in chat rooms (remember those?), when my foot became deeply lodged in my mouth, but I learned my lessons while managing to avoid being a total ****.

On the other hand, I did engage in a sort of performance art in those chat rooms as a slightly crazed brat; the most fun was having some sharper-minded people see behind the curtain and get in on the joke. Good times!

One last thing - @PatsWickedPissah was witness to that early Wax Tadpole era; here's to the memory of alt.sports.football.pro.ne-patriots, may it ever shine bright!
Back when I was an AOLe I created a chat room named "The Doctor is In" and when people flocked to it I responded with "I see, go on" to every question. That was fun.

If that were the case, the Pats don't win one Super Bowl.

The major building blocks he identified were Brady, Seymour, Warren and Wilfork during the early years along with Branch, Samuel, Wilson, Light, Koppen, Andruzzi, Givens, Jarvis Green, Graham, Watson as good complementary players. Then you had the numerus trades and FA signings that got them 3 SB's in 4 years. The early years and the early 2010's were Bill's best.

However, the problems started in 2005 which carried through 2009. There just wasn't enough impact players from any of those drafts which contributed to the 10 year drought. The 2010 draft is what reignited their next run with Gronk, Hernandez and McCourty (when he moved to FS) and the 2012 draft getting Jones and Hightower. That was the core of the 2nd Dynasty.

It was the 2013-2023 drafts were when things got really rough. This team doesn't have one drafted Pro Bowl/All Pro player on offense or defense since Collins and Thuney.
All of that... And add to it other teams watched and learned what he did, the type of player he looked for... They locked them up instead of letting them slide into free agency... The guys like vrabel became few and far between... In addition the belichick type players just seemed to disappear from the college landscape... Though take that with a grain of salt because I'm not into college football, so that assessment might be a bit off the mark

Jonathan didn't want him when he was here, then made a documentary suggesting he had nothing to do with two decades of success after firing him. That ship has sailed and caught fire out on the open sea.

We've also seen BB with Wolf as the defacto GM... it didn't work. So it would have to be a personnel guy Bill wanted to work with and respected.

Lmao-The make believe **** here is unreal.

Doug Pederson looked like an offensive genius and has a statue outside the Philadelphia stadium because Frank Reich was his offensive coach. A year later he gets fired.

Flash forward Nick Sirianni looked amazing when Shane Steichen was coaching the offense and Jonathan Gannon was coaching the D... they leave and the team plummets.

Brady got Arians fired and a team that won a Super Bowl and went 24-9 over the previous two seasons went 8-9.

Yeah… coaching is overrated.

Disagree 100%. If you mean coaching as far as teaching the players how to do their jobs, to understand their positions, to learn the plays , then yes you might have a point. And even that is a huge stretch of the imagination. If you don’t have a tough authoritarian at the helm who doesn’t put up with Prima Donna crap, you are wrong. This isn’t the NBA. All plays are scripted for a reason. It is the most complicated sport there is. Freelancing does not help a TEAM win. Bill drafted players he wanted to coach. It’s been said many times. I’m sure there are many people on this site who played sports for a long time as well. It always fascinates me how some guys make it pro and others don’t. Soooo much of it lies between your ears. So hard to figure out what type of young man you are getting in college and where his head, heart and focus will be after getting a bit of money.

Would you have Bill back if he agreed to work with a G.M. or G.M. Type like a Scott Pioli (or someone who's a solid evaluator of talent (both Drafting and FA Acquisition's) and who would be responsible for rebuilding the Team/Roster, and bring in a Non-Josh McDaniels/B.O.B new and effective OC (and Offensive Coaching Staff). That Bill just had to be the HC and even be the Classic "Dark Lord of The Sith" B.B. that we came to know and love (and with the understanding that his successor would already be on the new Coaching Staff if that person proves worthy to succeed him). Yes or No? I'm not advocating for one or the other, I'm just curious as to what all of you think on the subject.

i would be more interested in Vrabel. He is an experienced coach and played here.

Show where anyone put Wolf over Belichick.
It would be that moment Jonathan fired BB and promoted the GM he brought in back in 2021 to improve personnel via collaboration... about a year prior to having Bill run a west coast offensive system even though he didn't respect it at all. Or you know... the system they're running right now.

You suggesting a lack of direct proof about what goes on behind closed doors at Gillette is proof of something is hilarious. Mike Lombardi has all but confirmed the reported stories that Jonathan made Bill's life difficult the last three years on his podcast. The Dynasty documentary is just icing on the cake.

What the hell are you talking about? I think it’s time you got back on your meds Wozzy.

Can always count on Team Bill to defend that wall when someone talks about their hoodied hero.

They must have a batsignal or something.

Bring back Bill and lose the Krafts, problem solved.

No. Bill proved he needs some checks to his power. No org is going to hire Bill and give him GM duties at this point.

Kraft did him dirty with the documentary. They were also right in what ultimately happened. Bill proved he had way too much control and was making decisions that no other coaches were would be allowed to, and they predictably blew up in their face. Bill is the only coach who would have tried to get rid of Brady in 2017 and then do it in 2020, he was the only coach that would go as long as he did without a named DC, he was the only coach who would be allowed to make Patricia the OC.

At the end of the day, he proved he shouldn't have the freedom and power he had, and it was too late to try to keep him while wrestling it away from him. There's a reason he didn't get a job last year. Teams like the Falcons were gun shy because they didn't trust his decision making and people in the front office were worried he would undermine them to get total control of the team

Bill contributed a lot, but he passed his expiration date and without him reflecting and taking a very substantial step back, he's just not going to have much success again.

Yep. 3-4 become in vogue in the early 2000's and organizations were trying to build their teams like the Pats were.

I think it's just the direction the game has gone. The Tampa Bay Bucs and later the Colts were a preview of how players are getting lighter and faster.
