Yes, McCarron is ratted by some as the #6 QB in the draft, available for us in the 2nd, perhaps in the 3rd. Some posters are interested, some have other preferences.

No one is suggested using a 1st on McCarron.

The #6 or #7 or #8 QB in the draft could be a good player to be our backup from 2015-2017.

The people that want Mccarron are so lll. He's a middling QB who is worse than at least 5 QBs in this draft

Yes I would be mad. While we all have an element of in BB we trust, we also all form our own opinions on different topics and in my opinion it would be a terrible idea to draft a QB for a number of reasons.

1. I don't think any of these QB's are franchise guys and I haven't seen many analysts that do either. The Pats may think one of them is but I certainly wouldn't agree with it.

2. We have other, much more pressing needs that will help this team in both the short and long term. By taking a QB at 29 we would be passing on a player that could very well be rated higher (in my opinion there certainly would be someone rated higher) and at a position that will make more of an impact over the next few years.

3. Brady still has 4 years left on his contract and unless he has given an indication that he will be retiring in the next 2 years I think its too early for a long term replacement. Any QB drafted this year will likely reach free agency the same time as Brady's contract runs out. Even if we choose to pick up the 5th year option for 1st round picks, unless Brady misses time over the next few years we will likely have to shell out big money (the 5th year option could be up near $20mil by 2017) for someone that hasn't played significant snaps. It would be similar to the situation Mallett will be in next season where you would be paying for an unproven commodity.

That said, one would have to assume that Belichick would have to have a pretty good plan in attempting to develop our next QB while one of the best is still around, if he chose to select him that high in the draft.

No sense getting mad about it but it wouldn't make much sense to me in this draft. If Andrew Luck dropped 28 spots i could see it but that isn't going to happen.

I think the Patriots had these visits to plant the seed in team's minds that they are thinking QB and as a team that takes value consistently could take a QB high when no one believes it makes sense. And when it comes to the Draft that creates capital, as teams realize they could pull the trigger, but also know the pick is for sale. I really think they want to trade down from 29# unless a player they really love is there, and if the QB's start sliding then they could be in a prime spot for teams to start moving up to get them at the end of the first. that doesn't mean that will happen, but it does mean they are smart to prepare for it, and if teams think there is some chance they would actually take Bridgewater or Derek Carr if they are there then it gives them some leverage, instead of just passing it along.

As great as BB is, I don't see a situation where he thinks a guy is a once in a lifetime franchise QB and the rest of the league whiffs on them. If one of these guys has that kind of talent they won't get to #29

If they do it's a sign that Brady has told them he doesn't plan to play longer than 2-3 more seasons.

But personally I still think Brady plays well into his 40s and Belichick stays on for at least 5 years after that. We're coming up on the end of the era, no doubt, but I don't think it will be over as quickly as naysayers like to daydream.

The only other reason I could see them picking a QB in the 1st or 2nd is the same reason they'd pick anyone at any position - if it was the best value pick on their board.

Someone else said it first, but you can never go wrong drafting the best player available.

Well said fnordcircle and pretty much sums up how I feel. Obviously BB is going to make the best decision based upon the team's needs. Short term it doesn't make much sense to bring in an QB if we really want (and should) get ring 4. Long term I actually like the idea since god knows how many years Brady really has. And it's always good to have that insurance of a quality backup just in case since honestly I'm not totally on board with Mallet at this point. Then again I have been wrong in the past on our backup QBs so....

We'll see what happens.

But neither of those teams thought they were once in a lifetime, franchise QB's otherwise they would have taken them earlier. And in Brees case not drafted Rivers and let him leave as a free agent. I agree that teams miss on evaluations, but in general the entire league will miss on a player. I don't think BB is such a special talent evaluator that he thinks a guy is a franchise player while the rest of the league doesn't.

I'm probably getting mad whatever move BB does in the draft. That's how usually it goes.

About QBs, it all goes down to what's available. If Bridgewater, Manziel or Bortles fall to the 29, i wouldn't be surprised if we took him. Too much value. I would be mildly suprised if we took one of the rest, not-1st-round-worthy, QBs like Carr, Garoppolo or Mccaron in the 1st.

Would not be surprised and may like if we took one of those in the later rounds. I do like McCarron, not for his skin (SHOCKING), but because he seems to be a hard-worker kid. That usually translates into success
