Worst Super Bowl teams ever

Eli was generally a poor QB during the season and good in the playoffs. The exact opposite of his brother.

The Pats lost that game because they went pass-happy against a team with a poor run defense.
Honestly, the Pats had a ****ty gameplan against the Giants both times. In 2007 I'm convinced they went into the game wanting to end the season with a big light show of deep passes and bombs to Moss. When they finally got the lead in the 4th it was because they did nice surgical drive that became a hallmark of Brady's career.

I agree. In 07 both of their TD drives were 12 plays. Most of the game they were so impatient.

1st was 8 pass, 5 run and 2nd in Q4 was 11/2 but mostly short passes. Ton went 8/11 on that drive.

The 4th and 13 call was brutal.

It was Josh's 1st SB as OC and he got a little MikeMartz-itis "we're gonna do what we're gonna do" thing going. I think BB got caught up in it as well.

Kevin Faulk's knee injury did not help but he still was a big factor. Should have thrown more screens/draws to LoMo. He had 16 touches but should have been more based on that pass rush.

2011 seemed a bit different. There was still some impatience. Welker makes that catch we aren't having this conversation. I think Tom's shoulder injury was a factor. After that his he struggled. No Gronk didn't help.

No recent Chiefs team belongs in this conversation.

The 2012 Ravens don't either. That team was loaded everywhere except for at QB. The Patriots have won too much for fans to be all sour grapes about every freaking team that wins.

A short list of actual worst Super Bowl teams: '79 Rams, '85 Patriots, '94 Chargers, '95 Steelers, '98 Falcons, '00, '07, '11 Giants, '03 Panthers, '06 Bears, '08 Cardinals

Are the 15-win Chiefs more comparable to the 15-win Panthers in 2015? You can't **** on the them for their regular season record, but something just didn't feel right about both of these teams. And they were both promptly exposed.

I'd say this year's Chiefs team belongs on a list of teams that weren't as good as they seemed and got exposed in the SB (this excludes good teams with bad performances, such as the 07 Pats or 13 Broncos).

Also reminded me of the 2019 Patriots.

Yeah the 06 Bears get on the list because of their QB. Their defense was really good and their ST was otherworldly.

95 Steelers had Neil O'Donnell... meh. The 95 Cowboys who beat them were the worst SB winner out of the 3 that they won.

+ 2002 Raiders, 2009 Colts, 1992 Bills, 1997 Packers, 2018 Rams if you call that a "bad performance"

The 2015 Panthers and 2024 Chiefs are a good comparison. Funnily enough, they both went 15-1* while not being a great team for a completely different reason. The 2015 Panthers played an extremely easy schedule and were more "dominant" than the 2024 Chiefs. The 2024 Chiefs played a difficult schedule but were not dominant in any way, shape, or form.

2015 Panthers MOV in their 15 wins: 38, 28, 28, 19, 17, 14, 11, 11, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 3, 3

2024 Chiefs MOV in their 15 wins: 19, 14, 13, 10, 8, 7, 7, 7, 6, 5, 3, 2, 2, 2, 1

*excluding the 38-0 game for the 2024 Chiefs.

The 1985 Patriots were terrific at every position…. Other than QB where they were atrocious. They were probably the fifth best team in the NFL and they beat three of the four teams ahead of them to get to the superbowl before they got trucked

The team itself was overlooked because the AFC East was a wagon that year

The 1994 Chargers were also woefully underrated

I'd say they were pretty good that year. They beat down the defending NFC Champions in Seattle along the way. They just choked against Denver.

Since I've been watching football in the 90's, there really aren't many cases where a team goes to the Super Bowl and gets exposed.

The Bills are a unique case because they just kept on running into teams that were superior to them. Making it 4 straight times clearly wasn't a fluke.

Nobody was beating the 1994 49ers. Chargers weren't slouches.

The 1998 Falcons were the first team that I've seen that really had no business being there. The Packers and 49ers had to play each other and someone was getting eliminated. Garrison Hearst suffers an injury against the Falcons. Then a 100% regular season kicker, misses a routine field goal that would've put the game away. They got what was coming against the Broncos.

2000 Giants were the next team in a league that was a down year overall. Remember when they were accused of knowing the plays of the Vikings before they even ran them?

2006 Bears.

2024 Chiefs. We've been arguing all year that they weren't a good team and they finally took a beatdown.
