Worst Ever Sports Signings????

at the top of my list would be JD Drew

I completely agree. This is now why I despise the Dead Sux, and look forward to their historic collapse. Just as long as the MFY don't win the WS.

Vin Baker is right up there, too; but was he a FA, or was he traded-for?

Whaddabout Ryan Leaf? $30 mill contract with $11 mill in signing bonus plus whatever he was paid for the years he hung around on the bench. He's different from some of the others on the list in that he never did anything. People like Alan Houston at least contributed over several seasons, if below expectations.

As for the Rocket, if he keeps the Yankees in the game and gives them a chance to win 20 or so games this season, it might be money well-spent, given the rest of their pitching staff.

Here are some horrible signings from a Boston perspective

Red Sox under Theo the idiot
1) JD Drew
2) Renteria
3) Lugo
4) Matt Clements
These are just the signings, I am not even talking about the horrible trades like with the Padres last year.

Celtics under Ainge
Since the NBA is all about trades and picking up or letting salary go, and FA pickups are few I am including trades here.
1) Telfair (ugh)
2) Raef Lafrenz (double ugh)
3) Wally S.
4) Signing of the new contract for Blount
5) Extending Docs contract

Pats under BB/Pioli
1) Biesel
2) Chad Brown
3) Not a signing, but a horrible trade for Duane Starks for a 2nd rd pick
Thats about it, all pretty minor, pretty good track record, with few mistakes

Bruins
Stopped paying attention after the Bourque/Neely years when I realised they have the worst owner in sports.

4)

Pretty good list, PP.

Does any 4-sport town have a worse trifecta of gms than Theo (the PC Boy Blunder), Danny Boy (who has had decent/good drafts but abysmal trades), and Chiapet (who wouldn't know old-time hockey if it gave him a face-wash)?
