I’m probably one of the top 5 Belichick devotees here and I totally agree. I miss him terribly as a coach but he would have ltaken that Giants offer or another offer and then would have taken Penix, McCarthy or Nix. The early returns on Maye would indicate that would have been a mistake. Yes, Nix has looked great and is now the frontrunner for ROY but Maye’s ceiling is significantly higher. The “it factor” is a cliche but there is some truth to it and Maye seems to have all of “it”….elite talent, toughness (mental and physical), leadership, likability (to teammates, most importantly).

Soooooo…..now that we have Maye, let’s bring that beautiful son-of-b*tch back as HC (without final personnel say), insert Steve as DC, say buh-bye to Mayo and Covington and have a real GM search.

I’m a big Belichick fan, and I have literally made thousands of arguments on this site supporting him, but he wasn’t perfect, and any rational fan would acknowledge that. I wouldn’t bring him back though. I still think he’s the best strategic and game day coach there is, but I lost faith in his ability to draft and sign free agents, I don’t want them going back to EP offense, and his ability to attract the best coaches disappeared his last 5-7 years here, probably because he wanted them to work as hard as he did, which actually is unreasonable given that he worked about 18 hours a day on average. ( Although he probably doesn’t do that anymore given his relationship status.)

Belichick would not have drafted Maye, he was very clear about that, and the people trying to say he would have are as delusional as it gets. Imo he would have gone all out to sign Baker Mayfield, and then traded the #3 pick for more draft picks, but if not he would have traded back and tried to get one of the other QB’s.

I BEG whoever is evaluating WRs and TEs to put a greater emphasis on the parts of the scouting report that focus on GETTING OPEN.

Speed is NICE, but ultimately is useless if your route running is subpar and you have no feel for where the holes in coverage are.

I swear to all that is holy, if I see 'contested catch specialist' listed as a positive for a college prospect, I might lose my mind. So far, what that has translated to in the NFL is... "CAN'T GET OPEN, BECAUSE EVEN IN COLLEGE HE HAD TO FIGHT FOR THE BALL." Give me a choice between a guy running a 4.3 and a guy running a 4.6, as long as the 4.6 is making scouts write in their notes 'somehow gets open', I want the 4.6 guy.

The strange thing about this is that in War Room / Michael Holley Belichick’s top criteria for WR’s was the ability to get open. However he also placed a priority on the mental abilities of his draft picks, and often drafted team captains/keaders, and kids who played multiple positions and special teams, which I generally agree with, but also led to many head scratching picks, e.g. Jordan Richards. In doing so he often passed on kids with more talent so as to fill multiple needs and provide more character and depth. This approach really hurt them at WR, as it’s a position where speed and athletic ability matter more than the ability to play multiple roles does.

We got lucky with Maye.. let tag sink in. Justin Herbert is yet to sniff a postseason win I guess . And has probably been to 1 postseason a la Mac Jones.

Garrett bolles and tee Higgins will need to be overpaid for around 50-55 million . Then sign few mid level veterans around free safety, CB, run stuffer, 2 linebackers.

This way when we go to draft we could possibly get lucky where our 3- 5th could be traded down to 9th or 10th with extra second round pick, 3rd round and another 2026 2nd rounder.

And 2026 cap space will again open up because onwenu, godchaux and dugger will probably be let go or resigned for lower cap dollars. So get their replacements in draft or free agency as depth.

There is one obvious move wolf can do to salvage things. The Emmanuel Forbes who went before gonzo in the 2023 draft was just released. I believe he has everything you're looking for in young CB. Size, speed, ball skills, attitude. Reportedly he just isn't a fit in Washington's defense. He could help to sure up a big need at outside CB across from gonzo. Wolf go and get him!!!

This is a big issue for a rebuilding team. It's not a great idea to pay a lot for a guy in his 30's looking for his last big contract when he's going to decline soon.

Agreed there. Is why I'm all for finding the guy in the draft. Look at KC they are having OL issues as well so I'm sure they will be courting available FAs as they are a destination.

Size???? Depending on where you look Forbes is listed anywhere between 5' 11" and 6'1" or roughly average for an NFL CB. His weight was 166 lbs at the Combine and lied up to 180 on Washington's site. That's not even average for a 6 foot MLB or MLS player. Forbes may have some unrealized potential and is certainly worth taking a flyer on but nothing he might do here is going to 'salvage' anything beyond his own career. To be fair, most of us would be more than content with that.

I say most because it's become painfully obvious the past few years there are some here who wouldn't know contentment if it bit them on their miserable asses.

San Diego is 8-4. They have rebuilt their program the correct way. They are trending upward.

They have a top 5 NFL head coach…they had a great contingency plan to replace a declining Keenan Allen in Ladd Mcconkey, they replaced Austin Ekeler with a young stud JK Dobbins, they drafted a big red zone threat WR Quentin Johnson, and they got a reliable third WR in Josh Palmer.

They got a good defense as well
