Speaking of CJ. The bengals are waiving Rudi Johnson around for a trade for a WR because of Chad Johnsons shoulder issues.

Would you do this? Trade Chad for Chad (even though damaged goods) and hope he recovers somewhat enough to play (which he can) and he's is healthy for 2009? It's like a draft choice for CJ. Would you out there?

They're dangling Rudi, not Chad. And they want a legit WR in return, not Jackson. So yeah, I guess I'd do it but I don't see Cincinnati wanting to do that.

Some of you have some unrealistic expectations for the draft, apparently.

2004 was a very good draft. They landed an elite nose tackle in Wilfork and while I think Watson hasn't reached his potential yet and it's now starting to appear like he'll never become that star I hoped and thought he'd become-- he's still a good, starting caliber TE with the potential to be more than that.

Any time you get a player like Wilfork, you've had a successful draft. Watson is just gravy.

I also don't see why you'd exclude trades in 2007. Trades are a part of the draft as well. They dealt a late 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick. They could've kept those assets and had a better draft in terms of players they actually selected that year but they came out of it with Welker and Moss instead, plus a 1st rounder from the 9ers which ended up being a top 10 pick and Jerod Mayo. Throw in Meriweather and that's a pretty amazing haul if you ask me.

True, I am grading a bit differently. Wilfork was a steal, and a total No-brainer, even with the hindsight of Steven Jackson. Ben Watson? forget it. Just look at the three players that were drafted next - Karlos Dansby, Chris Snee, and Igor Olshansky, the latter two of which could arguably have helped us more. not to mention Bob sanders later in Rd 2. True, this would mean we would have had to resign Graham to keep a good tight end, but then again, a solid TE in Chris Cooley was taken in the 3rd round, and IMHO, presents much greater value.

A look through the 2004 draft will reveal loads of talent that the Pats missed. Take a look and tell me that you don't wince at least 2-3 times in every round when you see who was taken shortly after our picks:

This is exactly what I mean by unrealistic expectations. EVERY team can do the same thing because the draft is far closer to a crap shoot than an exact science. Every team in the league is going to miss on a bunch of players every single draft...that's the way it works.

Of course, in hindsight, grabbing Chris Cooley later in the draft and grabbing Bob Sanders with the Watson pick is ideal but I'd like to know how many were predicting Pro Bowls appearances for Sanders and Cooley on draft day, when these decisions are actually made.

The bottom line is that the Patriots came out of the 2004 draft with a Pro Bowl stud in Wilfork and a solid starter in Watson. Getting a Pro Bowl stud and a starter is as much or more than one can hope for without being ridiculously greedy. I'll tell you right now there are a bunch of teams that would've loved a Wilfork+Watson draft.

I hear you here... I love Peters, but the Bills haven't seen him at all since post surgery.... one concern from Bills FANS (so no backup from the organization at this point) is that he is not 100% or something went wrong with the op... I would LOVE to have him here (I'd imagine almost any team would love to have him) for a first and a third AND would sign him to a new deal for sure... but I'd want to see him REALLY work out first... not just a physical.... a little more than that.

This is a young man that is just downright good... he is one of the best players on a pretty darn good Bills team.

I really like our O line... but if we were to get a crack at a young, dominant LT... you've got to take him... and (again, assuming he is "good" physically post op) he'd be worth the dough.

That being said... I don't see any way the Bills let him go to us... too many other suitors that would prob. give up the same picks (albeit higher ones based on where I think and hope that we'll finish this year... deep into the playoffs... possibly ring #4).

Of course you are right, it's fun to look back at draft but it's crazy to look at all the talent that was missed. We could all make millions in the stock market that way too. It's just silly to even think about.

2007 1st + Deion Branch = Brandon Meriweather, Jerod Mayo, Shawn Crable (who you forgot) . . . and Randy Moss? Simply epic.
