Will the Jets win change our drafting at all?

I agree that we should use our 5 early picks to get a couple of 2010 contributers.

I would also note that we have 7 players coming back from the 2nd through the 4th round of the 2009 draft (plus Pryor, Edelman, Ingram, Bussey and Richard). I would expect at some of these players to be contributers in their sophomore years.

I hope the Jets win makes the Patriots concentrate their efforts

on the 2010 season. This current team has numerous defficiencies

and cannot afford to trade 2010 draft picks for 2011 picks.

And if the Colts and the Bengals hadn't both rolled over and played dead, they wouldn't have been in the playoffs, period.

Talk all the sh*t you want now but they are in the AFCCG, I dont think they are beating the Colts but you just sound like a hater. The Jets are for real, all this "they dont deserve it" and "they got lucky" bs is really making us as fans look like idiots. The Jets wernt going to lose to the bengals even if they didnt "roll over" I think they showed that wildcard weekend when they beat them in Cincy.

Yet again, the jets can afford to go after two top players.
I think you could build a pretty good team by using a draft strategy of targeting guys who have the potential to be elite impact players in the 10-20 range of the draft, instead of going for "value". You can often find elite players in that range, and the cost is not prohibitive the way it is for top 10 picks. The sweet spot of the draft is generally considered to be in the 11-13 range.

Some examples:

Troy Polamalu in 2003
Haloti Ngata in 2006
I agree that we should use our 5 early picks to get a couple of 2010 contributers.

You can, but only if you never bust. There have been plenty of first-rounders over the years who everyone thought was a NFL-ready starter, only for them to never see the field.

The Jets are currently paying for the Gholston pick, paying both his salary and Calvin Pace's (his replacement).

Depth is also a huge problem, as chevss454 and Brarrel both pointed out. The Jets have been extremely fortunate to remain healthy this year, as charted by Rick Gosselin the other day. Their success is as much due to their offensive line as their defense - without a healthy offensive line they would never have been able to run the ball as much as they have. Every single one of their front 5 started all 16 games of the regular season.

In the next couple of years they have to replace Fanaca (LG), Woody (RT), and their entire defensive line as well as finding a new WR and perhaps another corner. If they win the Super Bowl in the next couple of years, no-one cares. If they don't, it's another peak missed - just look at the Chargers. San Diego's loss to the Jets yesterday guaranteed that Tomlinson will retire without a ring.

Here is the current draft order and obviously there will be trades that will change this. As it sit right now the Pats pick 4 times in the first 2 round and the Jets 2 times and all of our 2nd round pick come before the Jets second pick. The Pats have more picks and more picks earlier than the Jets. The Jets D is good, but they can't sign free agents unless they lose them in an uncapped year and haven't stockpiled picks to replenish.

The Jets are in a bind. The trading back that people complain about has set the Pats up to replenish aging talent. Everyone agrees that the draft is a crap shoot and a "blue chip" draft choices turn into busts with alarming frequency, see Gholston as an example, and there are plenty of "playmakers" taken in later round, Branch was a second rounder, as was Faulk, Brady was in the 6th. What turns a talented player into a playmaker often are the intagibles that can't be measured at the combine, so a lot of blue chippers with great combine numbers end up as solid starters and busts, Chad Jackson, as often as they turn into MVPs, DPOY, or OPOY. I am all for trading up if a player is a perfect fit, but the Jets draft strategy has left them without the ability to replenish their team in the long term and has left them with less flexibility to move up if they want to. They have traded short term success for long term stability. Excluding this years playoff run they haven't even been that successful in the short term.

It's confusing.

thejetsblog.com Details Out on Darrelle Revis’ Contract
* It includes $11 million in guarantees.
* The first four years are worth a total of $16 million.
* The deal voids after four years if Revis hits 35% playing time in the first year or 45% in any of the next three years.
* If it voids, the Jets have the option of buying back the fifth and sixth years. The fifth year would cost $5 million. The sixth year would cost $9 million or $11 million or $13 million or $15 million, depending on a complicated points system.
* If it voids after the fourth year, the Jets can’t use the franchise or transition tag on him. The only way they could prevent him from becoming a free agent is to exercise the buy backs.

So it currently voids after 4 years, i.e. at the end of the 2010 season. The Jets will buy back the 5th and 6th seasons and hope to sign a new deal at the end of the 5th season. There's no way he'll play in the 6th year under this contract, since it will probably cost $15m given the season he just had.

I am in agreement , have to admit that the Jets are well coached, and they remind me a certain team in 2001. Play good defense, stay in the game, let the other team beat themselves.

When Ryan started off the year talking about BB's rings, you knew what he was doing, he was telling his team he came to play. I thought he would lose his team by being so bombastic, but he has kept his team. He sorta stole a line from the Pats, look those other teams don't respect the Jets, we will show them.

Have heard him say he wants all his defensive players to blitz at some point in the game, they are all involved, all fired to be one for all.

Ryan is smiling on the sidelines , he is enjoying himself. That team is on the rise,,no disgruntled players either.

I have always had a deep seated hatred for the Jets but you have to give them their due.

Talk all the sh*t you want now but they are in the AFCCG, I dont think they are beating the Colts but you just sound like a hater. The Jets are for real, all this "they dont deserve it" and "they got lucky" bs is really making us as fans look like idiots.
