Now that the Dolphins have officially clinched the playoffs and will be the #6 seed no matter what, it's time to speculate on how they will approach Sunday. Gase could either use the game as a big test for the team prior to the playoffs, in getting to play the best competition, or he may elect to take essentially a bye in resting players.

If I'm not mistaken, it's also written in stone that Miami will visit Pittsburgh in the wild card round...so the Dolphins would likely want to use this week to prepare for the Steelers, since the Steelers are going to do the same thing.

EDIT: Upon further review, the Dolphins could claim the number 5 seed with a win and KC loss.

The only card Denver has left to play is to show up against Oakland with Jets like intensity and keep KC from winning the division, and the Patriots the #2 seed if they play the JV team. All while knowing Oakland is cooked either way.

The way things work out today they will play to win but not at the expense of next week.

They have a decent amount to play for. They have a chance for the 5th seed. That would be much preferred. I'd rather go to Houston than Pitt no question. I think they win against Houston to be honest.

That being said now that they are in they probably won't throw everything at us to try to accomplish it. They will try but save their best plays and rest borderline guys.

That is my guess anyway. If the Ravens won today they might still play this game hard but they would mind going to Baltimore less probably. Who knows honestly. Nothing would surprise me and depend on their injuries. Also worth noting they have no back up QB now to speak of.

Not really sure when Gase is such an unknown. No telling what he would do in this situation because, well.....he's never been in it. It's interesting though, the 07 Giants were in a similar situation and they didn't rest guys week 17...would wind up giving the Pats all they had. I think Gase shuts it down a bit, meaning they play to win but conceals some plays from being shown until next week.

The thing is there are 2 AFC HFA I hate. KC and Denver. Both are so huge. Denver is out and KC can not pass us for the #1 seed no matter what. Miami is up there too but only early in the year. Late in the year they lose that HFA.

I am okay with the #2 seed but it needs to be planed. If the Pats play like crap I will not be okay with it. If we just sit the whole game or play half and get up then sit and lose with backups that is okay too.

I have no fear about playing Oakland in Oakland. Not like that is at all likely to happen.

However if the Pats play to win they better win and play well. I don't want any stop in positive momentum.

We must win against Miami, no let up we need HFA.

The only scenario where we wouldn't be at Gillette is if we had to go to Oakland

Not happening bro.... we definitely don't need HF to beat the Carrless Raiders

Mcgloin at Oakland doesn't scare me one bit. The crowd noise there isn't too bad and weather is relatively nice. The only thing is the travel.

#5 seed gets to play Houston and Tom Savage / Brock Osweiler instead of Big Ben, which should be incentive enough for Miami.

But I also think Gase is trying to build the program, not just for this year but beyond. And its way too early to throw away a game that can continue development. Plus Moore needs as many reps as possible to develop chemistry with his receivers. Makes no sense not to play to win.

Whatever his name is, we could beat him in his own backyard

I don't think Miami is going to lay down against the Pats.. even though Miami basically has a bye week.

Hopefully the Pats have a 14 point lead at half and just play JG and Floyd and Lungy.

Give Dion 7 carries White 7 carries and Blount 7 carries.

From Miami's POV, if they are the #6, it guarantees a trip to Foxborough in the divisional round.
Certainly not ideal for them. While the Dolphins are likely to give us a battle in Miami, they just don't win in Foxboro especially this late in the year.

I actually think the Dolphins could be the third best team in the AFC right now with Carr's injury. I think they can beat any of the other playoff teams besides the Pats in Foxboro. They'd have trouble in Arrowhead but I could see them taking down the Steelers.
