Re: Will deserve the flame, but have to throw this out there..

The Panthers are stuck. Why would we have to give Watson and a #1 AND a #2? I say Watson and a #2. Period. Take it or leave it. Also, the Peppers thing is over, but I appreciate your caveat so I'll leave it alone!

How about one of our 2nd rounders.

Re: Will deserve the flame, but have to throw this out there..

With alex smith trade, although I see him more in a heath evans role, and the pass rush still in flux just a bit how about this trade proposal..

Ben Watson Next year number 1 and 2 for the Julius Peppers... I would still like Peppers, but the more I thought about it , not at the cost of the so called Seymoer for peppers trade.. Any thoughts??

Let the flaming begin, I can take it..
Why do you want to pay Peppers before Wilfork? That would rightfully annoy Wilfork and given that Peppers will get a contract bigger than haynesworth, there isn't any way to have both Peppers and Wilfork.

But if you think Peppers is worth losing Wilfork and probably Seymour over, why not wait until next year and get him for nothing (except 100 mil, but no draft pick, I mean).

In fact, if he doesn't sign his tender and decides to hold out, Carolina may just withdraw the tag and some team (hopefully not us) can make him the highest paid defensive player in the league. At least until Ware extends with the Boys.

If we are going to trade $15M of our cap space to the Panthers, they should send us Peppers and their #1 and #2 draft picks. That much money allocated to one defensive player is killing their ability to put an improved team on the field next year, as it will to any team, including the Pats.

Watson, a first, and a second? Are you sure you don't want to throw Brady in there too? If the Pats aren't planning on keeping Seymour past this year, I would much rather trade him than Watson, a first, and a second (more so for the draft picks than Watson).

That said, I am still hesitant to give up too much for Peppers in terms of a trade. He is still transitioning from one position to another although he seems like he has the skill set to handle. Especially after this year's draft is over, either the Panthers are going to be desperate to get rid of him or they want to keep him and will require a kings ransom to trade him away. If it is the former, the Pats might be able to get him for one or two second rounders. If it is the latter, the Pats aren't trading for him. I am guessing the deal won't happen no matter what frame of mind the Panthers are in.

Re: Will deserve the flame, but have to throw this out there..

There are just so many aspects top this Peppers situation and most of them are convoluted and fraught with issues. If he really does want huge money, it would be Redskinesque of us to give it to him, yet alone trade a first and second for the privilage of handcuffing us cap wise in the years to come.
The one thing I understand about BB is the priority he places on value, and Peppers, regardless of his skill level, is a value killer if you have to trade away multiple high draft picks and pay him Haynsworth money.
If this deal can't be done for one of our seconds and a long term deal of between 7-8 million per year, then the Pats are not going anywhere near it.
And frankly, I'd rather have that money going to Vince. We should be taking care of our own first, which does not cost us additional draft picks.
Vince is the anchor to our D and has done a great job for us since he got here and done so in a professional manner. Pay Vince before anyone else.

Re: Will deserve the flame, but have to throw this out there..

Funny stat is watson had better career season then this dude`s best and also with watson in most blocking role we had more rush yards then buc`s.

I am confused what am i missing having caught less balls and blocking for a lesser running yards he has proven his superiority.

peppers want 15 million to play 9 million dollar position.the best OLB avg 9 too not some player who is going to learn this new position.

Can the new guy catch a football without the use of his gut? If the answer is yes...then I say great move. I have always dreamt of a pass-catching TE who could use his hands!

Again a super bowl win, and that 1st round pick is a second basically.. So I dont know , but if we can convince Jason Taylor to come, and able to sign both Wilfork and Seymor than Im all for it..

So Peppers guarantees a Super Bowl win?

If Peppers guaranteed a Super Bowl win, I would make the trade. Not even adding a QB like Brady guarantees a Super Bowl win for a team. But what if (God forbid) Brady has a season ending injury again and the Pats have a rash of injuries? I could see this team being 6-10 if O'Connell isn't ready. Then where would that first round pick be?

I know I am giving a worst case scenario, but you don't trade draft picks with the thinking that the Pats will probably win the Super Bowl or get close so the draft pick would be low. I bet most people felt before the season started that the Pats would be drafting 32 or 31 in last weekend's draft.

Re: Will deserve the flame, but have to throw this out there..

Only a second round pick and 8% of the cap for one player! What a deal!

Between Brady, a resigned Wilfork, resigned Seymour, Peppers, Thomas, that's about 40% of the cap right there. Don't think it's going to happen.
