I think he's going to end up being a great tackle for many years to come. Even the best left tackles go through struggles their rookie season, and so far he's holding up really well. And this is just the beginning, he's known as a really smart and really coachable player, he was calling the line adjustments from left tackle at LSU, and that's never done. He's going to be so much better after a couple of years in their strength and conditioning program, and the pro coaching he will be getting. Despite all of the naysayers they nailed this pick.

He'll get better, much to the chagrin of people that didn't want him.... which we don't hear from that much...

Absolutely. I loved the Mankins comparison from Gronk and Edelman. Finish the guy in front of you on every play. Other than 1/3 of an inch Campbell has everything you want in a left tackle.

In fairness, one of them's in the Hall of Fame, he ate everyone's lunch.
And Schobel had a nice run for 3 or 4 years there until injuries caught up with him.

But yeah, he (Campbell) will likely always have comparatively more trouble with longer/taller pass rushers. It is what it is.
That doesn't mean he's going to give up 5 sacks to everyone over 6'2".

Him stealing Nic Scourton's lunch money on Sunday was an actual eye-opener for me. That's precisely the type of player (and in Scourton's case, /actual/ player) he "struggled" with in college.

Campbell's out there making statements. Quietly.

I hope he's studying the likes of HOF Joe Thomas who, in fact, had shorter arms than Campbell (at 32.5") but overcame it with a maniacal focus on technique and developing an elite football IQ.

Campbell at the least is off to a very good start.

Matt Light was your guy when your team went up against average rushers. It was the elite rushers he struggled badly against. They had to get creative in the early years for guys like Freeney, Mathis, Panthers Super bowl with the roll outs, Steelers spreading them out and the Rams 1st Super Bowl. Those players would eventually embarrass Light in obvious passing downs. However, their impact became irrelevant because the Pats as a team owned the Colts early and the Steelers. Schobel and Taylor are good examples. They were his daddies.

5 games in, Will Campbell has answered all questions and should have silenced any doubters. Amazing start at a position that usually has growing pains for even the best. The rate at which this kid learns is phenomenal.

Anyone not a fan of this kid is not a Patriots fan.

If those assholes start saying nice things about him then I will worry. I actually saw a help wanted ad for WEEI last week, it read " **** talking assholes needed. Must be willing to talk **** endlessly, be wrong about everything, and look like a complete idiot."

At most jobs you get fired for being wrong every time, Felger gets bonuses for it.
