Why should anyone pay Thomas $5M a year and give the patriots a draft chocie for the priviledge.

Because you're the New York Jets, and that's just what you do.

Thomas is still a solid LB, and could be a good performer for many teams. If someone thinks they could find a use for him, the only sure way to get him it to trade for him. Relying on the Pats to cut him is unreliable, and if they did cut him he would have to clear waivers before a team could sign him and not be liable for his $5M salary. That's a very iffy proposition. So I could see a team that believed that AD still has what it takes and was just in the wrong situation in NE being willing to make some kind of trade. How much and who are the big questions.

As a vested veteran he would not have to clear waivers. That only happens outside of the trading deadline in season. mg is a black and white thinker, doesn't grasp the grey areas. If the perception is AD can still play and is just a poor fit for this team for whatever reason, he will have some value to a team that needs a veteran 3-4 LB. Desperate teams and HC's overvalue players. Teams that aren't hold players to a higher standard. They didn't cut Milloy because he couldn't play any more, they cut him because he wouldn't play ball and he wasn't giving effort or producing relative to his cap # and salary, and he was a negative clubhouse influence. They tagged and traded Tebucky knowing what he wasn't...and still got a nice package of picks from a team that assumed he was something else.

I don't think he'll be a Patriot 6 weeks from now.

Thank you for the clarification on the waiver issue. I agree with the rest of your reasoning.
