Wide Variation In Predicted Wins

I’m hopeful that the receivers can benefit this year from running actual routes that don’t require them to think about 14 different options that only work when they see the field the same way as a 20 year veteran QB does
Receivers like Harry and Meyers may be better since it'll be their 2nd year in the league/this offense -- not because of who is at QB. Several new WRs over the recent years had solid rapports with Brady rather quickly: Mitchell, Amendola, Hogan, Gordon.

Does it matter if they are too slow to separate? can't teach speed

I learned my lesson with Chad Jackson, Dobson, Mitchell. Easley and Rivers, Wynn is heading down the same road.

Isaiah Wynn is very good when he is healthy - and excellent in the running game. Here we are in year three. Wynn needs to be doing everything the training and strength/conditioning staffs are asking of him.

A line of Wynn - Thuney - Andrews - Mason - Cannon can be excellent, but there are injury concerns throughout. I like the depth that BB added to the OL in the draft. I think they are still one veteran tackle away from having complete puzzle up front.

As for the receiving corps, my feeling is that the Patriots are one solid veteran WR away from being a solid group as well. If one of the the rookie tight ends can contribute 40+ receptions as a safety valve for Stidham, they'll be fine. There were so many rookie WRs drafted high, there will be a number of good veterans let go this summer.

I have faith in Edelman to be a leader and mentor in that WR room and help Harry and Meyers reach their potential. Sanu is a good receiver and a full training camp will be major factor in his role.

The thing about this team is that they have veteran leadership at every position group except tight end. When I look around the division, I see loads of talent but nowhere near the veteran leadership that the Patriots have. This team won't get rattled by anybody and will know how to stay in the moment.

Anywhere btw 9-7 & 12-4.

The playbook is the playbook.

Now most probably the plays in it get pruned because a lot of its growth over the years was pre-snap Brady stuff so while it might get cleanup up a bit not much will change about the option aspect and knowing your assignments. Except now you not only gotta worry about the receiving option but also about the QB reading things correctly.

I remember posting how the narrative changes every week during the season based on how a team or QB looked in a game. So it's the off season and there is not much to go on.

Then you factor in strength of schedule..

Maybe the question should be..

" How many snaps by Stidham before the narrative of playoff team or .500 team ... becomes defined...?"

I think it's like 4 games. If they bounce back from an early loss... For example. Stid the game manager, avoids big mistakes. They can run the ball. The defense shows a level of competence .. complementary football wins games. Kinda like Brady's first year. (Oops can't say that..! ) Stidy is not brady.

We won't be looking at the QB this time to figure out if they're a playoff team. It's the defense and the run game. JS4 could need a full season to have questions answered about him.

And one last observation, new uniforms, ugh!
This somehow reminds me of the flying elvis

I stopped reading after "Sanu is good"

With the schedule that they’re facing, 11-5 may not have been possible even with Brady under center.

I see their record anywhere between 5-11 and 9-7.

5-11? I suppose every team stumbles upon some wins.

If they are that bad without Brady then they’re almost that bad with him. 43 year old QBs who can’t even do better than a 78 passer rating after October last season don’t inspire a lot of confidence.

Like I said in my post, I’d have them anywhere between 5-9 wins; hence the whole “wide variation in predicted wins” thread title. I’m guessing that 7 or 8 wins is most appropriate, but that might be difficult under the current circumstances as well as the upcoming schedule.

2-14
1-15
0-16

One of the 3...

I agree.

As I said in the OP, I agree unless we get a couple of significant additions. Without that, I agree with sports book analysts (7.5 before Balichick magic which I presume would include a couple of serious additions).

Here’s what I see happening:

They modify the playbook with what Stidum feels comfortable with (See the video clip which is played all the time of the conversation between Bledsoe and Brady where Brady is telling Bledsoe what plays he likes).

The WR’s will be on the same level as Stidum as they will learning this offense together.

I don’t feel BB and McDaniels will force square pegs in round holes.

I’m surprised at the mostly negative takes here. Not that that’s a bad thing on a fan board, it’s actually sort of refreshing. But I am surprised.

Yes, McDaniels will to seriously dumb down the offense. And yes, he will need to tailor the offense to make the best use of the players that we have.

And, as I think that we all know, the primary issue is the quarterback, not the UDFA receivers. There are experienced receivers who can handle a normal difficulty NFL offense: Edelman, Sanu, Byrd, Lee. Harry will get there.

Last year most folks saw the first half of the schedule as a cakewalk and the second half as much more difficult...well, those folks were spot on...I was one of them...
This year will be BRUTAL...3 west coast games plus KC, Houston trips and Baltimore and SF...unless there are serious injuries to their toughest opponents this is a 7 win team and 9 wins with a TON of luck... I'm just hoping the month of December matters
