Why wouldn't we keep Brisset for 2025?

My understanding is that it's a forgone conclusion that Brissett won't be back in 2025. Given his ability to mentor and his experience in McDaniels system wouldn't it make sense to retain him for another year?

Is he looking to go somewhere where he has a better chance to start?

Because of his maturity and experience in playing in different systems he's not a bad fit at all.

....but I don't think he wants to ride the bench here and the team might want to find an upgrade.

His salary was 8 million, an average backup can be had for 2-3 million. No reason to use that much cap space on Jacoby who will be looking for similar to stay here. he'll take less to be a #2 and not a #3 somewhere else.

Yeah. He was worth the extra last year to help Maye. That’s not a big deal this year so the cost is unnecessary, especially since Milton will be the 2nd string, meaning the vet QB is likely a game day inactive/“emergency QB”. No sense spending more than a small amount on that.

He was also paid and brought in as a pseudo-legitimate starter, so the $8 million was partial payment to get destroyed behind our Oline while we got Drake ready. The expectation will be different for who our starter is and (hopefully) the condition of our offensive line.

If we're really targeting a cheap vet QB2/QB3 type, would a Flacco or Jimmy G. really be that much less than Brisset?

Develop Milton for the # 2 QB spot.

Brisett is not accurate or mobile. He has never had a winning record in his career and he wont start winning now going on 33.

Flacco, maybe, at his age. Jimmy probably not, but he brings more knowledge of Josh’s scheme to the table which might be worth it. That said, you could also get the same from, uh… Stidham?

Yeah, I think Stidham might be worth a flyer if he doesn't stay with the Broncos. Unless Stidham is still pissed that Bill and McD went with Cam over him.

Brissett is a backup good enough to come in and win a game or two. The mistake is thinking he can be any more than that.

why would we keep him?

sit down and let me tell you a little story...

"mentoring" is over rated, and is used as an excuse to justify signing players you know will under perform... because we averaged 12.4 ppg in his first five starts... because we never had more than 168 passing yards in a single game when he was under center... because we had 2 receiving TDs in five games... because his only win in the first five games came against a somewhat broken cincy bengals team who couldn't stop the run... and he couldn't hold off a rookie QB who needed to sit in ( he actually needed to sit for more than five games tbh) order to straighten his game out...

after he was benched we all lived happily ever after...

The end

That’s a Bill problem. Josh gave him a chance in LV if I recall correctly. Then he got another chance in Denver. He should know by now that he’s not a starter but he can still scrape out $3M a year. I’d maybe extend to $4M for one season to tap his EP experience.

You cant teach youth. NFL defense are sacking every QB.

No game for old men.

He should’ve never been signed in the first place. He has bounced around the league and is a terrible starting QB. He cried when he was named the starting QB. What the hell is Maye going to learn from him?

I’m surprised this is even being brought up.

Costs too much to be third best on the roster. Especially for an older guy without much upside

Because he sucks and he dissed his team mates
