Why isn’t anyone talking about Maroney’s fumble?

Re: Why isn’t anyone talking about Maroney’s fumble?

Thank you for your post. A much clearer picture as to why you have your point of view.

Some things I don't understand though:

1) if Bill thought that the two back system was the future - but that run blocking was an issue - why eliminate the fullback position? Why not wait a year and see if the run blocking by the o-line had improved first?

2) Me thinks that Dillon was TOAST after one year not so much because of over-use, but more because of age, over-use in Cincy and lack of motivation - dude got his ring, you know?

3) BB doesn't strike me as the type that has a hard time cuting his losses quick or making adjustments quick. So why hasn't he drafted an other viable RB in the early rounds of the draft? Why not emphasize run-blocking in camp? I thought Scar was a genius? Was he afraid that the emphasis would get Brady killed - simply because the pass blocking may suffer? And if this was the case - again, why eliminate the fb?

4) Personally, I think the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. The o-line has it's issues - and so does Maroney. But lets be real here. The Pats short passing game truly is an extension of the run game.

5) Scouting may be an issue here?

You kind of answered your own questions in 3 and 4. He hasn't drafted another back because the back isn't really the problem. Via draft he is trying to get bigger on the line without sacrificing brains and speed/agility. Scar is good, but all coaches and coordinators are limited by the talent at hand. And you eliminate the FB because he doesn't represent value here due to limited snaps based on he wasn't a sufficient difference maker for the last 4 years.

And drafting a power back is fraught with folly since once the knees go it's all downhill at potentially tremendous sunk cost. Ronnie Brown says hi. Can't stay on the field and given the emphasis on him in Miami, the entire team is toast as a result. Bill would rather put the emphasis here on passing whether with Brady or his backup, even. That's the way we're built to roll now because of Brady. That's why we were able to remain competitive at 11-5 when we lost him for an entire season. Teams can go the other way, like say Minnesota, but the still end up having to find a $10M QB or it doesn't work at all... That's a bandaid fix in Minnesota at best since Favre will be gone soon and there is no plan for continuity because the plan is to save Chilly's job long enough to buy time to continue searching for one. Of course by that time AP could be morphing into LdT who is on the back 9 as his own QB is just coming into his prime...
