Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

Congratulations to Indianapolis for winning a game I believe they would of lost w/ Peyton Manning. Down 28, the Colts of old would of wilted beneath the pressure and spent the game sulking on the sidelines.

Luck played Championship football. Indy fans, having never actually seen that before, are still in a state of complete bewilderment.

After that comeback, send Indy to go give Denver their one-and-done. They can do it. All the experts will be wrong.

That's a narrative I want to see, especially coming on the year of Indy's owner's twitter account.

Let the media feast on that. My money is on Luck.

Championship football > October stat-compiling.

Will be hilarious irony. Hilarious, glorious, legacy-killing irony.

I'm officially all in on Cinci. Bring Cinci here and we'll watch the most glorious one-and-done in the history of the AFC at Mile High Stadium.

opcorn:

Not sure I gave a lot of confidence in a team capable of getting down by 28 to the chiefs.

Curious why would this years one and done be better than last years?
Or the other 7?

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

My case for rooting for the Chargers:

Why we want the Chargers to play the Broncos:

-The Chargers held the Broncos to 28 and 20 points in the regular season.
-The Chargers narrowly lost the first game, and that was before Allen and Mathews emerged.
-Division games are always weird. The Dolphins got smashed by the Jets/Bills yet beat us, while the Jets even edged out a win vs. us this year. Anything can happen.
-Philip Rivers has ended Manning's season 2x already, in 2007 and 2009.

Why we want to face the Colts:

-The Colts offense plays right into our defenses strengths. They have no running game and just one legit passing option. Talib/McCourty will make sure no bombs to Hilton happen.
-The Colts offense/defense are just less talented than the Bengals. The Colts pass defense is average at best (opposing qbr, yards per pass, comp pct.), while their rushing defense leaves alot to be desired. Why rather face a top 5 defense in the Bengals?
-AJ Green, Giovani Bernard, Tyler Eifert, Marvin Jones, or Ty Hilton, Donald Brown, Coby Fleener, and Griff Whalen. I'll take the latter.

I second this. Chargers play Broncos well, and has best shot at bringing down Peyton & Co.

Luck will run out, if they play the Patriots in freezing-cold temps...

My pick is for: Chargers @ Patriots, AFC Championship game.

Superbowl pick is for: Patriots vs. Seattle (revenge game)

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

I am rooting for SD today. Cinci has never won a playoff game under Lewis, and getting their first win today might take the monkey off their back.

Getting the monkey off of Romo's back after winning his first playoff game in 2009 has done wonders for him. It has been four seasons and he has yet to win his second playoff game.

Usually guys who have problem winning any playoff games don't all the sudden start winning playoff games because they won one.

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

I am rooting for CIN with you, but for a bit of a different reason.

My reason is that I think we need to take it one game at a time, both for the team (obviously most importantly), but also for the fanbase. We're playing with house money at the moment, and there should be some caution before proceeding. In past yrs I would be looking ahead, even if I claimed not to be. This year--we simply need to take it one step at a time. Let's win next week's game and get into the AFCCG. It isn't going to be easy no matter who we face.

I believe that it will be a better matchup for us in terms of trying to shut down AJ Green, and stopping the run. I would rather face CIN, who has 4 road games in a row that they've scored 20 pts or less (compared to their 5 straight home games where they've scored 34 or more). That's a major difference, especially when you couple it with their 3-5 away record this season. On top of that, we've already faced them once earlier this year, so we should have some decent ideas on how to battle them in a familiarity sense.

As far as who goes to DEN, it could be SD or IND--and both would have about the same chance of winning for different reasons. Both have beat them already this year, but in the end I just don't see Manning going one and done again. It isn't going to happen every single time....That won't stop us from rooting for it though

How do you figure we are playing with house money?
We are two wins from the SB and I would expect us to beat any of the teams left.

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

I think it would be very special having Benny here for a playoff game ...

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

Indy is a way better match up for us. They have no running game, they have one scary WR who would be handled by Talib and they have one really good pass rusher who we should be able to neutralize.

Cincy's D alone makes it a bad match up for us.

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

So you want the pats to face statistically the best passing defense, best rushing defense , and best runningback left in the playoffs?

New Orleans is playing the team that fits that description next week.

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

Just be careful for who you root for. I could care less on who we get personally.

Damn! I keep getting knocked down in the Homer rankings!

Go Pats!

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

I commented at work earlier in the day on Saturday that I was hoping the Colts would win after one of my clients told me the score was 31-10. He asked me why and I told him it is because I believe they can beat the Broncos in Denver. I'd much rather face Luck (that can be debated I'm sure) than Manning in Denver. At the end of the day I think it comes down to Gillette. I'd rather play an AFCCG there (although we've lost many games at home in recent playoff appearances).

Any way you look at it, the Pats will be playing a good team. No matter how good or bad they are relative to each other, the fact is every team in the playoffs is good. That's why they made it in. I don't underestimate anyone because of the Giants and the way the Jets marched into Gillette a few years ago and destroyed the Pats.

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

I believe the Colts are the optimum matchup for one reason, trenches. Of the 16 games the Patriots played this season, arguably Cincy won the war of the trenches more decisively than any of our other opponents. Is there a reason why Cincy will be less physically/easier to punch in the mouth this time around?? Conversely I don't see Indy as an overly physical team. I see the Patriots gaining an edge in the battle of the trenches with Indy. And unlike the past several years, this year the Patriot REALLY need to win in the trenches. This year they just don't have the offensive firepower to mask it.....

Indy or Cincy present difficulties. Even before the KC game I would have pegged Indy as the team much more capable of mounting a comeback. Put another way, if there is less than 5 minutes to go I'd rather be playing Cincy instead of Indy. But overall I favor the lesser physical challenge that Indy, theoretically, presents.

With that said, I have little faith in the Chargers. How can you look so poor against second stringers who had nothing to play for when a playoff birth is on the line?? It makes me think SD is a bunch of pretenders, fodder, the proverbial broken down nag thrown in the race to round out the field. It makes the question of 'Indy or Cincy' moot.

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

Last time I rooted for an opponent to meet us in the next game was the NY Giants ...

That did not go so well ... I root no more for any opponent.

I have learned it usually comes to bite us back in the butt.

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

Huge cheer for Benny ... pretty cool what he has become ... the old fashioned way.

Don't get how thinking a 2 seed with a buy is not an example of playing with house money is homerism.
Should we just forfeit because we aren't the 1 seed?

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

I'm not sure who to root for. Andrew Luck is amazing, he's physically a freak of nature to go with a great head. I believe he's up there with Brady,Rodgers, Manning and Brees already. But he's a 2nd year QB with a weak defense and not many weapons on offense. I believe our defense can contain them and Brady will put up some points. Bengals have the better defense and more weapons on offense, but Dalton is inconsistent.

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

3 INTs won't cut it come later on

I want cincy becasue of dalton...worst QB in the AFC playoffs

Absolutely. We play who we play.

Nice guy, but he's the same crap back he was when he was here. Less than 4 YPC and no contributions on 3rd down. He doesn't fumble. Great.

re: Why I'm rooting for Cincinnati

Being a Denver fan I just hope whatever happens we don't have to face the Pats. U guys have that look.
