Why has Bill the GM been so poor the past decade?

I can't think of any other reason they let him go. juju was cheaper I guess but thats also just a bad reason. Bourne also got put in the doghouse that year because he dared question patricia when after playing for shanahan/mcdaniels he could tell the offense was not normal NFL caliber.

I mean Meyers was a guy you developed, was a leader in that locker-room, performed every single year with 3 different QB's and then you don't even pay him and then pay some outside guy essentially the same contract? its either one of 3 things.

1. Bill thought juju would be better
2. Bill was pissed that Meyers was one of those calling out how bad Patricia/judge were
3. Juju came cheaper! better deal, more incentives!

each one is bad. its either you cant evaluate talent, only want guys who you like, or are cheap and want to go bargain basement shopping. could be all 3.

I mean we did offer Deandre Hopkins some lowball deal that was like 70% incentives to come play for a patriots team that just went .500 and missed the playoffs. and now hes got 919yards and 6 tds for the titans on essentially a 1 year $12million deal. but too much! need a Deal!

its like Bill doesn't realize when you don't have Brady/arent competing for superbowls good players wont take steep discounts to play for you. if the choice is between 2 mid-teams then they going with the most money.
I thought the story was Bill wanted Myers and the front office guys talked him into Juju, I thought the money was the same too.

What ever happened to Bill having "final say".. I guess it's only when it comes to draft picks, friends and family and not paying guys huh.

I really hope the next GM we get (whenever that may be) is as bad as BB has been these last ten years. Three Super Bowl Championships!!! I'll take that in a heartbeat.

You do realize those SBs, aside from Brady, were mainly won with picks between 09-15,

Gronk, Edelman, Hightower, Chandler Jones, McCourty, James White, Volmer, Thuney, Mason, Flowers, Vereen, Andrews, Slater, Solder, Collins, Chung, Cannon….

No one is complaining about those drafts, it’s the ones since then.

because Bill passed on guys like George Pickens...who might take a play off every now and then...but can go out and get 4-195 and 2 tds

Draft picks typically take time to develop. Best case scenario I usually hope for is decent rookie year, probably hitting rookie wall. Second year, probably not as good as first, because there's some evolution and redefining their game going on. Third year you start to see signs of understanding things on a deeper level. Fourth year, breakout in efficiency and production. That's a typical 'good' level of progress, in my opinion.

Also.....
In a October podcast by Tom Curran, he reports only one team, an AFC North team, had made a contract offer to Meyers before Vegas stepped up

Look at the contracts Juju was given vs what Meyers signed for
JJSS......3 yr / 25.5 mill / 16 mill guaranteed
JM.........3 yr / 31 mill / 21 mill guaranteed

With Bill, it's ALWAYS about the money

For Meyers, in addition to potentially earning $5.5 mill more than his replacement over 3 years, he pays 0% state income tax on paychecks earned from home games while JJSS pays 5% Mass state income tax and 4% millionaires tax on wages above $1 mill (earned in Mass).

LOL - clear by Meyers reaction when they signed JuJu they were not close. I.e. they did not value him at all the same.

One of the dumbest things Bill has done given how hard it is for him to find WRs that work in our alien system.

I don't get why posters think if you criticize the last 5-8 years of Bill as a GM its some sort of indictment on how he was prior.

If bill had the quality of drafts the last 5-8 years that he had between even 2010-2015 where we filled our roster with pro bowl quality talent we aren't 3-10 right now and having this conversation.

its his inability to draft replacements for those guys as they retired ending up filling the roster with JAGS which is the criticism here. if you hire a GM and they fail to draft a pro-bowl player in something like 5-8 years they are a bottom GM and fired.

That's a good level with late picks or certain hard positions like QB and WR. If you are a 1st rounder you are a starter day 1.

also sends a bad message to the team. let your homegrown talent go, a guy who was respected in the locker-room. and pay and outsider.

I still feel it was because he dared speak out against the bizarre patricia/judge decisions.

I could name about 20 GMs who have been better the last 4 seasons. It's amazing what can be done when you have a QUARTERBACK.

People like to pooh-pooh this but it is a thing. Look for it to effect all four major sports teams going forward. Some (not all) players are going to get competitive offers from the Boston teams and look at the millionaires tax and sign elsewhere.

On top of that an actual WR that developed here! Absolutely, he dared to speak out against the HOF coach.

You'd think he's paying guys out his own bank account.. it's RKs money bill not yours!! On top of that he pays his staff ****!

I understand the frustration people have with BB's drafting, but there is way more to being a GM than drafting players. I prefer a GM that wins SB's and finds ways to maximize every aspect of building a team to achieve that ultimate goal.

I understand your point. As of course what Bill has done in his legendary career can Never be over looked. He was part of the greatest dynasty that lasted 19 seasons and will never be replicated by any organization in any sport.

We all appreciate that about him. However a GM is graded on how they draft players, sign players.

6 super bowls gives any successful GM a lot of leverage. However without the QB it's a different story for Bill. Any successful coach needs the guys to be able to win and be successful. I was hoping Bill could do that post brady. But it's worsened each season. The current state of the roster is terrible, expiring contracts, and contracts to players that even worth it. Most of the roster thst has anything of value going forward is on defense. As well as the acclaim he's deservedly recieved, when the team looks like this he gets the critique. I don't know that Bill or anyone else once he leaves this season will ever bring another Lombardi to Foxborough However the team needs to at least be built back up to compete for one.

My wild conspiracy theory: Bill gets a % of the money he saves Rub-It-Out Robert on cap
