Why can't we draft receivers?

Honestly, a hypothetical receiving crew of Bourne, Pop, Meyers, Henry, and Gesiki could be competent assuming you have an average QB who can make a read and deliver the ball

Competent yes. But there is no one on that list that defenses need to gameplan for. You aren't going toe to toe with top teams when one of those guys is your #1 got to have it target.

No one near the level of Gronkowski, Edelman, moss or welker...

It's a team of lafells and Chris hogans. Good complementary players. There's a reason Bills, eagles, dolphins invested in Diggs, AJ brown, Tyreek hill.

None of those teams are contenders without those moves imo

Agreed. However, we'll know how serious the Kraft's are about that by both what they do and/or don't do.
Exactly. I'd like to see just how serious they will be. I wonder if RK even does part with Bill. ?

Absolutely spot on. Tyreek changed the whole dynamic of the Miami offense. Himself, Waddle, mosteret, Berrios, acho they have a bunch of track athletes on offense.

If we can add a true #1, I'd say 2 WR's that could both be game changers. They every one else could excel in thier roles.

Parker or juju one won't be here next season I believe Parker gets traded.

If he doesn't, he's going to pay for it with his wallet, not to mention how many years he'll set back the rebuild. I love BB, but I'm of the opinion that it's his time to go. The proverbial band aid needs to be torn off. I'm one of those longtime fans (as far back as the 70's), who wants to see a legitimate attempt to do what is required to tangibly improve the team each and every season, working towards becoming a SB Champion Caliber Team again. Worse case scenario: If things get progressively worse year after year, the team could become so bad and financially unprofitable, it could not only get sold, but moved out of the New England area. I've seen it happen to storied franchises in my lifetime thus far in all of the major sports. So, there's a lot at stake here.

Parker and JuJu need to go. That Bill gave Parker an extension for essentially being a bust here, is just another poor decision on Bill's part (not to mention letting Jakobi walk, though Jakobi was not anywhere near a #1 WR, but would have been a decent #2 and should have been a fine #3 had we drafted well at the WR position).

Look at Parker and Juju's production over the last few games with Zappe throwing to them. Amazingly, they are suddenly pretty good wr's. Really strange how that works. If your qb sucks ass your wr's production sucks. Blame Bill all you want for Mac Jones, whether or not Kraft made him play, or if he felt this team wasn't a championship contender and he wanted to make absolutely sure Mac wasn't good, ie it takes 3 years to really evaluate a qb, we will never really know. But, we know it now. As far as expending draft capital on wr's, they are more of a crap shoot than any other position on the field. And the Patriots won for decades with a combination of Brady, trading for established wr's, and other positions receiving, along with a few late round finds.

WR is the second highest paid position in the NFL. Nearly every superbowl contender has a #1 option in the passing game. The pats haven't adjusted their value of the position.

2022 Thornton 50th overall
2019 Harry 32nd overall
2013 Dobson 59th overall

That's the team's top 100 draft pick investments in the position in a decade. Not going to cut it. BB overruling his scouts on Harry & then drafting a 4th round prospect 50th overall on Thornton is another story. The pats don't value WR like the rest of the NFL and the prospects they've drafted high aren't explosive either.

Douglas looks like a hit. He can separate and is #3 in the NFL in YAC among WRs. He's the pats best playmaker by far with Bourne injured. Despite that he was benched for fumbling in his second game and was 3rd in snaps behind Parker & Reagor last week. The development of young WRs could use improvement IMO.

Your absolutely correct on everything you posted. Everything in life has end dates. Bills been fantastic of course I've been a fan since a kid in the 80s watching squish the fish ! The biggest sponsor is Gillette obviously the stadium is named after. However being slotted out of prime time is only the beginning. If they don't do the things to right the ship and get the trajectory back on course like it was headed in 2021.

You both make great points. But I just think the energy and vibe was so low when Mac was in because the team was loosing and the ball was being turned over. So Zapp gave them a jolt, clearly Parker seemed energized by it. Juju and Parker both are injur plagued WRs who's roles are really 3s and 4s in an offense.

On Brady he commanded accountability from the WRs, guys played hard for tom and wanted to earn his trust.

Parker or juju I've mentioned both won't be here come next season one is the odd man out. My gut is it's Parker he Gets traded.

I think that's more of a result of people stacking the box against Zappe. There's tape on him now. Look for that to change tomorrow.

I'd say "the next two weeks" but the Jets game is going to be a **** show with two teams going nowhere fast...so it could play out a number of ways that won't be indicative of anything.

The strange thing about that pick was that in War Room iirc Belichick’s #1 priority for wide receivers was getting open, and Harry was incapable of that. And what really sucked was that Deebo Samuel was campaigning to become a Patriot, he was sitting right there when they picked, and Belichick went with Harry.

Overall the only things I can come up with are that Belichick has never valued the position because they only touch the ball 4-6 times a game, and that he has always used psychological evaluations, and prioritized team captains and leaders, and prioritized those qualities over athleticism, at a position where athleticism is the most important trait. Regardless the track record is really poor, especially when you put each draft in the perspective of who was still on the board at the time. Harry over Samuel, Aaron Dobson over Keenan Allen etc…. Monday morning QB’ing on the draft always fails to put it in context, but a number of these were almost straight up choices of one over the other.
Thanks for the insight

If we get a good receiver, like tee Higgins, would it be worth hanging onto juju who always seems to do better when there is a better receiver on the field?

Does he have any trade value?

Too bad we cannot bump the 2019 draft threads ... wow we landed a punter.
Some mediots labeled Harry the steal of the draft .... seriously.
This forum along with others complained why the team wasn't getting Brady more weapons.
Brady could easily have sued for non-support,

Rookie WR’s have the highest failure rate in the NFL… at least offensively. The Patriots are not alone.

I'd say a 6th.. so basically the same as Mac if you look at. Parker is just to Unreliable. He showed some flashes of the 1,200 yard guy he was years ago. But he plays half a season on average, he's MIA often or he's dropping passes. I wouldn't get too enamored with him actually having some production last 2 games in a meaningless season.

The misses didn't set back the organization back due to the GOATNESS we had. Since then Missed on a QB, and hit on A WR this time around in Pop.

Scarry to think we could have had A.J. Brown and Deebo in the same Draft instead of the two flameouts we Drafted. But I'm not one to bring up our past.
