Who will be the new OC?

I’m convinced Fatt Matt had a hand in last years defensive X’s and O’s and disgraceful playoff performance. No clue what BB sees in him
Apparently they are real close friends. They get together with their wives to swap stories.

Patricia’s wife is still alive? I thought for sure she would have been crushed to death by now.

Either that or she has taken up trampolining

Caley or judge will probably be defacto OC.
Troy Brown will be a position coach, probably taking lombardis spot.
I’m not worried about who is “OC” because it will be a group game planning effort, but my concern is who works with Mac. This could be a 2001 setup where BB is essentially the QB coach.
If Bill wants to be heavily involved on the offensive side this year, I hope he's ready to trust Mayo or Steve to be the true DC, not just a guy calling plays from a game plan that Bill put together for them. Expecting Bill to craft the offensive AND defensive game plans every week, and dictate what happens on both phases that degree during the game, is ridiculous.

I didn’t say he would “craft them”. He will do what he has always done, coach the coaches as they prepare the game plan to his specifications.

What do you mean by the difference between a “true DC” and one that isn’t?

You mean the number two rated defense in points and number rated defense in yards. Yes. It’s working quite well.
That #2 rated D got rexposed against healthier Teams if my memory serves me well.

This all but guarantees Caley is gone next.

Didn't mean to say that you were saying that, apologies if it read that way. Was just speaking generally from my own POV.

The only good news is Troy Brown may get the sole "WR coach" title. Micky might not have been very good - N'keal failed miserably, Agholor regressed, Gunner showed promise as a rookie and steadily lost his hands. Maybe Brown will be an upgrade?
As far as scheme and gameplan, I'm fine if BB & Matty P create a plan and allow the position coaches to install it - it's only about who calls the plays and adjustments during the game. And for that.... Mac himself! OR - get this - Hoyer the playcaller.
Let Mac cook!

No, I mean it’s a good topic because 90% of the posting in issues like this are rife with misunderstanding poor insight and bad conclusions.
Belichicks involvement is not really different whether there is a coordinator or not. I don’t think people understand how a coaching staff operates.

I'm serious about the idea Hoyer could be a better "playcaller" option than Judge or Patricia or Caley. If BB wants to lead and develop the offensive scheme, then fine, but he's not about to call plays. I'd rather have Hoyer take the game plan and call plays. He's been around forever, a lot of time with JMD and Brady, he knows this system, and by all accounts was a huge part of helping Cam last year and mentoring Mac this year. Let's make it happen!

The problem with this would be you'd have to make Hoyer a coach (which he doesn't seem to want to do). Because otherwise, if he's the playcaller AND the backup QB, if god forbid something happens to Mac and Hoyer has to play, he can't do both. So someone who hasn't been calling plays all year would suddenly have to do it.

They can also let Stidham play QB

They sure can... but SHOULD they? I mean hey, if Mac is out for the year, I'd rather let Stidham play it out than Hoyer. But if Mac needs to sit for a series or a half? Hoyer is less likely to balls that up.

Can't believe how disrespectful JMD is being right off the bat. Totally stripping the Patriots of 4 offensive coaches, including himself! That's low. That's a lot of consistency gone. And all we get in return is freaking Joe Judge!? whose not even an offensive coach.
This year is going to be bad. BB is going to either burn out or be overmatched trying to carry the O & D.
McD didnt strip the Patriots of 4 offensive coaches including himself. Bricillo's contract was expired. Do you think that a coach with an expired contract is required to stick around?

McD took TWO. Hardegree and Lombardi. Other Patriots Coaches who have taken HC positions have taken coaches with them.

Hardegree had been with the team for 1 year. Lombardi was on his 2nd stint with the Patriots, but had only been the WR coach for 2 years. And the Pats have Troy Brown there as well.
