Who will be the new OC?

How much time have spent observing OBriens interactions with players?
Interesting question Andy. After a long and successful college career, he was with the Pats for 4 full years BEFORE he became the OC. So Bill has had 5 years of personally seeing his player interactions. Certainly long enough to be able to make a valid judgement about his ability to interact with the players he will be asked to coach.

there seems to be a consensus that O'brien will be back....how do we know he's not sick of Bill or Bill isn't crazy about O'Brien? Odds are it will be someone on staff now unfortunately - I think you could take the entire offensive staff, save Ivan Fears, throw a dart at them, and voila - here's your new OC....here's a wild guess, and someone might've said it already, Matt Patricia - he was an offensive coach for Coach Bill in 2004 and 2005

I am so disappointed that McDaniels has left. I am glad for him getting a job he wanted.

My choice for his replacement is Bill O'Brien from Alabama. Former Pats coach, OC 1 year. Texans HC for a year.

My wild card choice is Brian Hoyer.

Reality Belichick that's a bigger role in developing Mac Jones and takes on more OC role.

Everytime someone refers to Wink Martindale the coach, I think of the game show host.

It's 4:21pm and I haven't yet seen a formal announcement. Can it still fall apart?

Exactly but the person commenting on how he interacts with players has never been within 500 yards of him.

BOB is a known quantity and certainly wouldn’t be a bad hire, but im not impressed with how his offense performed in Houston, so I think he is somewhat overrated.

Of course we don’t know who the other options are. Lombardi is at the ideal stage ( based upon both JMcD and BOBs path) but it’s about the guy not the resume.

Brian Belichick is wicked smart, or so I’ve heard. He may have inherited his father’s football mind.
Maybe. But he's not had any coaching experience on the offensive side of the ball. It's all been on the defensive side.. Even as a coaching assistant.

You're forgetting that Vegas is in the Mountain Time Zone. Why would they make an announcement based on the Eastern Time Zone?

As of 5:28pm EST, the Raiders were in the middle of their Press Conference introducing Zeigler and McDaniels.

BoB is a blowhard. HAAAAAARD pass. We can do much better.

I'd vote for O'Brien to come back. He is a heavy run coord and throws down field. Jones know the Alabama offense already so no need to start over with the playbook. whatever leads to Jones growing and being more productive in year two, I'm all for that. Wouldn't hurt to have a true #1 WR either in FA or the draft. Im looking forward to seeing Jones in the Pro Bowl throwing to actual talent.
What does the "Alabama offense" have to do with O'Brien becoming the OC of the Patriots??? The Offensive Play book is BELICHICK'S. They start with this huge binder and then he and the offensive coaches reduce it based on the players they have. This came out in the multiple books about the Patriots. It's Belichick's offense. Yes, there have been plays added in by McDaniels, Weis, and O'Brien, but it's still BB's.

I don't particularly want O'Brien back because I don't think he'll be long for the job. I think that he'll want to get a HC job sooner than later.

I'd prefer someone like Chad O'Shea to come back and take over the reins since he is familiar with the Offense and he did a good job with the Browns as their passing Coordinator..

Really? You think that Mick Lombardi is ideal? Lombardi has 2 years as a position coach and 1 as an Asst. QB coach. The rest of his experience is at the entry level positions of Coaching assistant, QC assistant, OC and DC assistant.

At least when BB hired BOB, he'd had 10 years of coaching experience prior to spending 2 years cutting his teeth as an OA and then WR coach.

The boy aged (or is it matured?). Seems like added 10 years w one wild LV weekend and a silver tie..

OBrien had 1 year as an offensive asst and 1 as WR coach.
Lombardi has actually been here a year longer.
OBrien had prior college experience Lombardi has prior NFL experience.
They basically took the same path as patriot coaches and would be on the same tine frame.

Doubtful Hoyer would call plays year one on staff. Him becoming quarterbacks coach is far more likely.
